The banks and corporations of the world have grown so large and powerful that they have more influence on your politician than YOUR ACTUAL VOTE. there is so much bickering in local government because of special interest that nothing is getting done on a local level. What about federal government? its being bombarded by lobbyist… THE SYSTEM HAS BEEN HIJACKED BY CORPORATE TERRORISTS, and their goal is total wealth and power.
My father told me the other day that when my grandparents were growing up in Cape Breton, they had no clue there was a great depression. they had such a strong since of community that the people all lived off the land and looked out for each other.
We can sit back and let our government make a complete fool of democracy, but just be aware that the government has been failing us throughout history and will continue to do so until WE as a people, as a conscious, start to prepare to pick our selves up and dust our selves off.
it is not cooperate influenced government that make up this great country it is the people, and WE THE PEOPLE can come together and find peace through community. Start today, get involved, BUY LOCAL… AND READ THE COAST!

hahhaha, yeah man. fight the power! hmpph, ha ha.
Dude, your grandparents didn’t know there was a great depression in Cape Breton because Cape Breton is in a constant state of depression. It was just business as usual.
Sounds like someone’s taking a first year Poli-Sci or Economics class and now knows everything about how the world works…
I’m from cape breton and I love it there, but its true. There’s such a defeated attitude and it seems everyones given up. I couldn’t live there. Love going back and visiting the family though!
Shout out to all my fellow Capers!
Laughing so goddamn hard right now.
I’m with nevermind… It’s probably a first year poli-sci student who did a paper on modern democracy. I remember those papers, and I thought the same thing. Problem is, it’s mostly incorrect. Companies have every right to lobby the government. As much as the individual does. They pay taxes, significantly more then the average guy, and they want to have a say with that money. While it is true that big business has a say in the run of things, it’s the constituent’s responsibility to have their voice heard. Who’s willing to bet that the OP has either A) not voted or B) has never contacted their MP/MLA/Councillor? I’m willing to bet on both, actually.
To the point of the depression in the 30’s… My grandparents that lived in Manitoba during the great depression (which by the way, did not affect Canada as much as it did the US) did not feel the depression. It’s hard to feel a depression when you’re dirt poor already.
If porkbarrel politics bugs you, I’d stay right clear of the US if I were you. I mean stay 100km away at all times. The system we have here makes it much harder to do it, but it still happens.
If that were a first year poli-sci paper, I don’t see a second year in OP’s future. Not that I have a poli-sci degree or anything (oh wait, I do!). Back in the depression days, a group of prominent businessmen attempted to organize a military coup in the U.S. The plan didn’t take (I’m not going into it, look up the story yourself. Nice history lesson) but it was something. I think OP is leaning in that direction too.
