I find it unlikely that the leasing office had no knowledge of the cockroaches in our building when we moved in.

APPARENTLY LAYING DOWN POWDER DOES NOT SOLVE THIS ISSUE!

I’ve been nagging and nagging the office to know what they are going to do about this problem and they have not returned any of my calls or written letters.

So, now I’ll do the only thing I can do — BITCH!

ALSO, this bitch goes out to the filthy tenants in who are supplying the cockroaches with food by not cleaning up their trash!

We’re living in a society here people!!!!!!

—$800 dollars to live in squalor!

  1. I thought it was too cold here for roaches… when did we get roaches here?? News to me! Just as well, I imagine, yeesh!

  2. I’ve never seen a cockroach in my entire life living in NS. I didn’t think they exised in this part of the world either.

  3. i have never seen a roach here either…but lots in to. i don’t think it has much to do w/ being clean i was in pristine houses that were rife w/ them…turning on the lights and watching them scatter ew ew ew is right

  4. I never saw a cockroach until I moved to a place on Myrtle Street in Dartmouth. It was pretty old, and its insulation was seaweed. In the year I was there, I only saw about 5, although I guess the apartment across from me was crawling with them. I assume that they would pop into my place, not find anything worth while and leave. So, don’t leave food out, wipe and sweep up all crumbs, gather up fingernail clippings and such things, and if they seem to be coming in from the same area, spray insecticide and stuff any holes. This should hold you until you can move. If it’s bad, I wouldn’t advise taking soft furniture with you (couches, mattresses, etc.).

  5. If you want to see cockroaches, you should spend some time in the Life Science Center at Dalhousie. The building has some of the largest ones I’ve seen in Canada.
Btw, cockroaches are only able to survive at this latitude because buildings are heated during the winter.

  6. If you think the problem is your neighbours, the roaches are probably moving into your apartment on plumbing or electrical conduits between units. You can tell your landlord to buy some expanding foam to plug up the entry points…or do it yourself. Once your apartment is sealed off, you can try to use the powder or bait to kill the ones setting up shop in your unit. Try to bill the landlord…but I don’t think they have the obligation to pay for exterminators in Nova Scotia. Also…move.

  7. I used to work at a certain food establishment that was located on Joe Howe Dr which was torn down… It had roaches, in the basement. Good luck trying to kill those things. It’s an expensive and futile endeavour.

  8. Expensive yes. Futile especially if you are in an apartment complex where the landlords don’t care. I had a run in with roaches once though and the landlords were good about eradicating them. Similar to the OP, it was a neighbour who was infested and they were moving between units through the plumbing. I only had to deal with that shit for a few months but then went 2 more years without problems before I moved. The neighbour got the boot too which helped a lot.

  9. I didn’t think we had roaches either, until one crawled across my table at a restaurant whose name rhymed with Mother Fucker’s…

Even if roaches aren’t abundant, we still have silverfish and house centipedes to contend with! Joy…

  10. Agreed PDG!

I’ve seen quite a few in NYC, hell they walk on the streets downtown! haha.

And… they Fly! So be warned!!

  11. OMG…the roaches on NYC sidewalks at night gave me the heebie-jeebies. They are fucking everywhere….and BIG! >shudder<
I had to give one of them my wallet just so it would stop following me.

  12. We definitely have them here. I had an apartment on Chebucto Road in 2002, and the place was crawling! The thing I hated the most was the fact that if the place is quiet, and you flick the lights on so they all run to hide at the same moment, you can HEAR their little legs skittering! Shiver. It was awful, and there’s really almost nothing to be done. The landlords put some of that powder shit down a couple times, to no effect. Don’t think, just move.
