Hey! You have a fancy plow stuck on the front of your 4×4, you clear your drive and shovel it into the road so when the plow comes by, it will fill up someone elses driveway. Instead of showing everyone your fancy driving in the middle of the road, how about doing a bit for your neighbours and plow out the driveways of the older members in the street. You know, the ones you see struggling to dig out after a snowstorm. That goes for you others as well that own snowblowers. Do your bit and give a hand and I’ll bet if you asked they would give you the pennies to cover the cost of your gas. —Shovelhead

  1. When Hub-Unit was mobile, he would take our snowblower and clear out our closest neighbours’ driveways – he did that for about ten years. After he became disabled, I had to do it with a shovel (by then the snowblower went to Frosty Heaven)and not one of those cocksucking motherfuckers, who, by then owned their own blowers, ever came over to give any assistance. Even the arsehole across the street zoomed up and down his drive (he knew Hub-Unit was in bad shape), totally ignoring me while I struggled with each fucking shovelful. Well, we got a new blower that I can use and it’ll be a icy day in hell before I offer any help.

  2. If my neighbours want to blow me then perhaps I would reciprocate and blow them…….especially the one on my right 😉

  3. that’s really shitty, our neighbours who have snowblowers are pretty good with helping out, but we live on one of the shortest streets in the city. which means they rarely plow it

  4. I thought ‘blow’ was just an expression ~;)

I can’t even start my truck for pennies…it costs me over $25.00 to drive from the Gas station at the Exit 8 on the 102 to Halifax & back.
Price in wear & tear, the cost of a plow & let us not forget studded snow tires…you want your drive way cleared, pay a fair price to have it done or buy your own truck & plow.

Snowthrowers are no different, cost of machine, up keep, gas. These things make life easier but come at a cost. No one who owns one of these things owes you a favor.
So instead of jealously complaining, why don’t you go buy your own.

  5. shoveling snow is good for ya…
a total body workout in a nice, cool atmosphere.
IF you’re able to… you should shovel that shit by hand.
    I LOVE shoveling snow.
White Juan to me was like ‘the’ sunniest day of the summer for most.
It took hours to clear that walkway out.

  6. I object based on principle. When someone sticks their nose up at my truck all year calling me vile things like ‘envirementally unfriendly’ because i don’t drive a tin can like they do…..

I have a hard time agreeing to:push snow out of their driveway, help them move, haul firewood, deliver a washing machine….these are all of the reasons why i own a truck. If they aren’t valid reasons for my stuck up idiot neighbor next door , then he can damn well rent equipment when he needs it.

My other neighbor is sweet as gold. I help them out.

  7. TTFN, that totally sucks the hairy wazoo. On the street where I live, who ever shovels first usually does the sidewalk of the houses on either side. (It’s the law here that sidewalks are the responsibility of the homeowner to shovel w/in 24 hours of last snowfall) then whoever finishes her driveway first helps out the neighbors.

Even the neighbor next door that I couldn’t stand would always do the walk in front of our house. then he’d get pissed if we did his walk, so, of course we did it.

A few years ago, we went in on a nice red snowblower (‘Carmen’) with two other neighbors. (Mean old man died and a very nice lesbian moved in). Because of the co-ownership, we got the extended warranty (something which I usually eschew).

    Happy Buy Nothing Day!

  8. I agree with your sentiment there, GV. i wouldn’t help the shits out, either.

Also: way to steal stuff off my FB, Rosie!

  9. Koda, AYKM? According to the National Enquirer, I live in Lesbianville, USA ‘the bizarre town where men are not wanted!’. Really, it’s common wisdom around here for landlords to prefer lesbian tenants…they fix up your place and leave it better than it was!

You may have seen my town featured last Sat on SNL http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/vid…

  10. X – I’ve always thought neighbourhoods should group buy stuff like that. Good for you! I’d love to own a piece of chipper!

  11. I went into partnership with my brother in law on a snowblower, he used to rent it out to his friends for beer so i never got to use it. Did i mention that the prick would never offer me beer?

  12. sounds like you were a gigantic sucker there GV.

and I’ve yet to meet a non-‘very nice lesbian’ …

  13. OB, if YOU want to shovel out old peoples’ driveways, then YOU can do it, or YOU can buy a truck with a plow. The owner of that truck didn’t buy that plow, the truck, and put the gas in it to waste on old people. I hope it snows like an evil bitch this year and you are out there daily.

  14. I agree wholeheartedly with GV’s post. If you’re going to turn your nose up at truck drivers and be all “let’s go green and save the world” then you should have no problem digging out your driveway with a shovel like they did in prehistoric times, or whatever.

Gas is expensive, if he does it for one neighbor everyone will want it done and I guarantee you they wouldn’t want to pay him. Your neighbors don’t owe you shit. They already have to look at you every day.

  15. koda, i think i live on your right. or if not, i could move in there. eat you heart out wheelie.( and yes i know). just fucking wid jas.

  16. i think it was after white juan, people in the west end lost quite a few snowblowers to thieves

  17. I loved White Juan. We never lost power, but I missed about 4 days of work until the buses started running again. I built and rigged the Revell-Monogram Wright Flyer that hangs in the window of certain downtown emporium and drank enough Coke to dissolve a Sherman Tank.

  18. mmm glue^^we could only get out the basement door, at first, but it was a fun adventure. i think we’re ready for the walkers

  19. I like my scoop and shovel, blowers require maintenance, I’m too cheap to hire anybody to plow my driveway.
