Today I was walking to the bus stop in the north-end Dartmouth, I was looking fabulous in my cat eye shades and vintage outfit and my awesome beehive, to finish the ensemble I wore my most favorite accessory, my red bandana wrapped around my awesome do’. As I walked by a group of wannabe gangsters they start yelling “I should run away before I get got,” and that “wearing shit like that should get me killed”!!!!!???? Clearly perturbed about the bandana.

First off I clearly do not give a shit about fake gangster drama. Just by looking at me you can tell this. I want to know why the best fashion accessory for both males and female has this horrible stereotype attached to it. One of the most beautiful pin up models I know was physically assaulted in Dartmouth one night for wearing one and sported a black eye for weeks. When you see a man in cowboy boots and a bandana hanging out of his pocket he is not trying to incite gangsters, and the ladies that wear em as true fashion accessories probably don’t want nothing to do with you either. When I wear my red bandana I really should be afraid of harrassment or assault. Just saying. —Cowboys wore em first!

  1. Gangsta losers are idiots. Bloods don’t own that bandana…and this is Halifax…not LA…morons.

  2. I know it’s too much to expect these semi-aborted crack fetuses to realize that not everybody they encounter is playing the same pathetic little masturbatory fantasy game they are. And it’s absolutely too much to expect them to recognize that they are single-handedly perpetuating more negative racial stereotypes and fueling more actual racism than all the burnt crosses and uni-syllabic Klan drool ever spewed.
I really do feel for you, OP. You deserve so much better; all of society does.

  3. You ought to be picked on for the beehive alone…we aren’t the 70’s, you aren’t Amy Winehouse, get some fashion sense.
But no, you shouldn’t be threatened by some wannabe gangster, either.

  4. Ah, Dartmouth’s home grown “yo yo hommie wannabee gangsters.” They wouldn’t last a second in a real ghetto.

  5. Uggg this makes me really mad. I know this one stupid girl who claims to be a blood and she lives around Caledonia in Dartmouth or something. First of all…she lives in her mom’s house and I don’t think she’s ever done any gangter-like things, other than quote rap songs in her Facebook status. Oh she always has to wear at least one thing red, of course. This whole thing is so stupid!! It sucks that you had to deal with BS like that OP!!!

  6. Maybe it wasn’t about the bandanna, and more about you emulating the human piece of trash that is Amy Winehouse. I’d shoot you too, just to put you out of your misery.

  7. I gotta go with those dissing your beehive.
If you really want something that huge & unweildly on your head, why not but one of those big beaver hat’s the British guards wear & strut around in that ridiculous looking head accessory.

  8. More; Guardsman’s busbys are made of bearskin. If PETA are going to throw rancid bean curd on you, it should be for the right reason.

  9. I say we rent a truck, a minigun and drive around in Darmouth and mow down these fuckers.

  10. “I was looking fabulous in my cat eye shades and vintage outfit and my awesome beehive, to finish the ensemble I wore my most favorite accessory, my red bandana wrapped around my awesome do'”

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
    LOOK AT THIS FUCKING HIPSTER!

  11. Count me in Bastard Fish. And I say we wear Highlander’s feather bonnets to really fuck wit’ dey heads.

  12. funny thing is I was ALSO wearing cat eye glasses (prescription and not too out there) and a red bandana today. No behive, just a ponytail, a rock t-shirt and jeans and a funky girl stopped me to tell me she “liked my style”

I guess that’s the difference between walking around Dartmouth and Bedford (lucky I didn’t get jumped by a bunch of spoiled 13 year olds, though)

  13. “my cat eye shades and vintage outfit and my awesome beehive, to finish the ensemble I wore my most favorite accessory, my red bandana wrapped around my awesome do”
Yup, I know your type. You’re all over Toronto, and this look is just as annoying as the gangsta wannabee look..because you’re BOTH screaming “Look at me!” The gangsta wants you to think he’s intimidating while you want him to think you’re quirky and original. Sure there are a genuine few from each type, but for the most part, you’re a bunch of posers.

  14. BTW, maybe the gangsta was referring to your red bandana- I think it’s what the bloods wear, while the crips wear blue ones.

  15. I’m with fizz— look at that fucking hipster. Hey OP, maybe you can regale the gangstas with how you were into NWA before they got big.

  16. wannabe gangstas, i am so sick and tired of this fucking bullshit. get off the crack, go out and get a fucking job and stop being the proof that stereotypes are true. stop being the bottom rung of society that contributes nothing but big fake gold chains and grills, shitty music, crookedly placed headwear, size 52 jeans around your knees, and printed hoodies.

theres not a group of people(of any colour or creed) that was brought here against their will. you arent oppressed, you arent disadvantaged, there is no grand conspiracy to keep you down. you have the same chance as anyone in this province/country to succeed. so theres no reason to be walking the street acting all “hard” and intimidating people.

i wonder how you would fare in a real “hood” like they have in LA, NYC, or Atlanta. likely have your poser heads shot off in short order.

  17. Would you rather we say she’s imitating Marge Simpson?

Clothing is clothing by the way… It’s a piece of clothing that will cover your ass and protect it from the elements. It’s not an artistic choice or a way to express yourself. Looks like someone took a couple of fashion courses at NSCAD.

  18. death squads.what else can i say but death squads.couple nights out in some of their neighbourhoods and i will gurrantee a change in behaviour.

  19. Clothing is not form a self-expression, Dr. F? I beg to differ. If clothing was merely used merely to cover our bodies, we’d all be walking around in shapeless, colourless, unisex duds. Even the most cursory glimpse through clothing history will prove an undeniable connection between clothing and expressions of wealth, class, gender, religious devotion, social conformity or nonconformity, etc. One needn’t be a fashion student to recogonize that, like it or not, we’re all expressing ourselves through our clothing choices, and being judged by others on those choices.

  20. Oh right, Cosmolily, people who shop at the Gap or any other chain store can’t possibly be creative. Sorry to burst your bubble but you don’t look any more unique with your Converse sneakers, mismatched socks and beehive hairdo than the girl wearing pink Gap capris and a white Joe Fresh t-shirt. Once upon a time your look was original, but that was a very, very long time ago! If you want proof, turn on the tv- hipsters are everywhere; they’re the new yuppies.
