To the lovely girl at the circulation desk of a major university library on saturday morning: you were the most unpleasant person I have encountered all month. From your refusal to answer me and look up from your computer to your sneer and eye-roll when i asked you if you could please grab some more staples for the stapler, your rudeness and awful demeanor stunned me. Perhaps try working somewhere that doesn’t require interaction with people? —Unimpressed

?
did I get sucked in a time vortex or something?
perhaps it was because this bitch is so boring what seemed like only a minute was actually negative time as punishment.
Ugh. This bugs me to no end as someone who spent 5 years working at two university library circ desks. They’re usually students who get the weekend shifts, and usually think their shit doesn’t stink because those jobs are actually really great jobs for PT work, so some people can get the idea that they’re “special” because they work there. Especially when one of the libraries I worked at used to tell its staff that we were essentially the “chosen” ones (and reminded that we could easily be replaced because SO many students wanted to work there).
A lot of my co workers were snots and had the manager wrapped around their fingers at one particular location and got away with so much unpleasantness it wasn’t even funny. It pissed me off because I was always polite and always did the job i was paid to do (which includes menial tasks such as replacing staples). Probably why my supervisors at the last library I worked at OFFERED references when i left, and when I asked to come back, they were more than willing to have me. I don’t think I was anything special, I just did my job and was decent to the patrons. It’s funny how a little bit can go along way and it takes FAR more energy to be pissy than it is to just be decent to someone.

next time, take your dick out, slap on desk, and ask for your staples. bet that’ll get her attention for a few seconds. barring that, say fuck it, chock up to her just going on the rag.
I want to work where guys are slapping their dicks on the desk. (If they are pretty dicks!).
Let management know, Libraries are usually pretty diligent about having open and friendly attitudes.
so, where is your desk koda. i’ll send over someone in a minute.
Is it just me, or is the penis, in general, not very pretty?
I think ‘it’ (as in, “he took ‘it’ out” a la Seinfeld, is functional more than pretty, Pretty Kitty. There are some, like some vulvas (vulvi?) that are more attractive than others. Beauty being in the eye of the beholder.
My desk is in my den….tell your friend with the pretty one that I’m waiting LOL
Yeah, I suppose I can dig it, OL. 😀
I don’t think slapping your dick on the desk of a bitter angry woman and asking her to find some staples is the wisest course of action here…just sayin.
What time of the month was it?
elonwy, it was meant to be funny, or don’t you know what that is? sheesh, and koda, he’ll need to know where you live. it might be long, but it can search all day, you know.
Hmmm, perhaps I’ll visit a circulation desk near me and book a study room if he’s packing large. No need to bother the lovely girl for staples though.
LS, better hope they don’t have a ruler handy…..
and was there really any intent behind making the ball sack look like a chicken neck?
was that just to make everything else pretty by comparison?
My university student workers were always great! I go back to the library all the time and they are always really nice.
I’ve had people at front desks ignore me before too and it makes my blood boil. I’ve worked front desks and the rule is to always greet someone who comes up to the desk, even if you are busy. If you are on the phone you make eye contact with them smile and nod your head or something, give them some indication that you are aware of them. If you absolutely cannot talk to them right away, just politely as them to wait a few moments while you finish what you were doing. You never just avoid their gaze… unless you’re an asshole of course. Plus, you’re a few feet away from someone, just standing there alone, they’re pretending not to see you but you know they know you are there…. AWKwarrrd
zzz, huh?????
