I fully agree with that, it makes me want to ditch Christmas altogether when I hear Christmas music right after halloween. Come on already! I feel manipulated and used, don’t the stores know, Christmas is a sure thing, people WILL buy presents, just chill out and save the hooplah until after i’ve got the fake spider webs out of my hair.
I agree too. Christmas has become nothing but a consumer frenzy fest and has lost all of it’s meaning. As an agnostic, I don’t celebrate for religious reasons, but still enjoy the “family” meaning of Xmas when we all gather for at least one time during the year. The “GRINCH” that stole Xmas is definately at the malls.
Don’t participate in it.Don’t buy anything.Make cards with a special personal note inside for each of your loved ones. It will mean more to them than the obligatory thoughtless walmart bobble.If thats too radical then keep doing what your doing but stop whiningabout it please.
I do love Christmas music and I never, never tire of it. I am also agnostic and celebrate for the family reasons…I love Christmas. The food and the lights and the Christmas tree!! What I don’t love are the incredibly packed malls…the crazy, crazy people…midnight madness really is madness…Last Friday at Superstore was ridiculous…Too many people are way too into it for the gifts and not for the spirit of the season!
A couple years ago i worked at sears for the Christmas season where i swear they have about 5 different christmas songs sung by 10 different people. i LOVE christmas and especially the music. But for thhose two years i couldnt listen to it at all as i was bombarded with it at work. Now i work somewhere where i have control over the music and there will be NO Christmas songs in my store till at least December 1!
Hey, I got my Sears Wishbook before Labour Day. I would appreciate any effort not to shove Christmas down my throat until December 1st.
Get over it Scrooge…..If you have time to listen to mall music, then you have time to pick up some ear plugs. People, always need to bitch about the littlest things….
THANK YOU!!! I went to Valuvillage at 9:30 am on November 1, less than 12 hours after Halloween ended…and they were playing Christmas music. Yesterday I spent over an hour trying to get out of Bayers Lake, which was packed with Christmas shoppers. This year I’m donating catnip toys to the SPCA in peoples names, and school supplies to Project COLORS. You won’t see me shopping for anything but groceries again until January. I love Christmas, but screw the commercialization.

‘the littlest things’, it’s noise pollution, hypnopodeia (sp?) brave new world here in japan it has already started, giant santa balloons and other cheap tacky decorations, christmas songs in department stores, i kind of like some of the tunes but it’s way over done, it doesn’t bother me a whole lot thou, i haven’t partaken in almost a decadei feel pity 4 the people who have 2 but gifts out of obligation, poor people skimping on food 2 b able 2 afford the latest plastic shit is a crime in my eyes…and all the while the tycoons r getting fatter & fatter & laughing @ u
Know what this holiday needs? 1. Get rid of gift giving altogether except perhaps smallish things to immediate mates and/or kids. 2. Everyone gets two weeks off or if you want to work, you get double time.3. Turn the entire month of December into a “feast month” like more ancient holidays. We all focus on eating, seeing family/friends, having a few drinks and not worrying about work and the like.4. It begins on Dec 1 and no earlier lest we taint the entire deal further.5. It should be celebrated however you want openly. Not only Christian but let’s be serious about the pagan roots and try to turn it into a generalized celebration and month of fun instead of partisian religious claptrap.Then, I would have a lot more fun.
yep i agee with the music being played too early – I have spend the last 20 years working in restaurants and this is the first year – in years i like the music- its cause i am no longer in a restaurnt or hotel playing “christmas classics” starting Novemeber first and going right up to January 1- OMG that was a whole month of listening for about 10 hours of what i used to consider nice music. but like i said this year it is different- i hear while i am out and it just sounds cozy… but i do understand if you have to hear it for any length of time.
im with scrooge, no work, feast & b merry & reconnect with our pagan roots, great idea, perhaps the mental evolution we experience over the next 6+ years, 2012 will bring about great changes like this, i think it makes much more sense 4 the health of a society 4 us 2 get together once a month or 2 to eat mushrooms together than it does to get up early every sunday 2 dress up 2 go stand up & sit down repeatedly & sing the same old hymns over & over & listen 2 the same old thingslaugh if u will but know this, the current state of world affairs would b much more peaceful & just if we got together & went on more ‘trips’ together
