To a certain family member who makes Christmas stockings in her spare time. You asked around, wondering who wanted a home-made stocking. When I requested you make one for my boyfriend, you snarkily asked me if we would even still be together by the time the stocking was finished. Then you flat out refused to make it because apparently it was a waste of time and yarn, making him one when he soon won’t even be in the picture! Wow, what an pessimist you are! I know you say this because I’ve had a history of short lived relationships, but after meeting so many frogs, I finally found my Prince. We have been together for almost two years now. What, don’t have your own man to make a stocking for? Dried up prune who can’t even do a good deed for me at Christmas. Fuck you! —Don’t need your stocking anyway

I hope you aren’t one of those people who goes on about “unconditional love” …. because it seems like you have conditions and are unforgiving when they aren’t met.

And, how about this …. make your BF a sock with your own damn hands!

  2. So the free stocking was not such a wonderful gift after all. It came with the hidden cost of insults and derision.

The real gift is finding out what the stocking-maker actually thinks of you so you can adjust your expectations.

And what Owl said at the end there. A Christmas stocking will mean much more to your boyfriend if you make it yourself, even if it is two pieces of red felt clumsily cut out and stitched together.

  3. I think we’re all missing the fact that the boyfriend probably didn’t want some dumb Christmas stocking anyway. Relax OP, old people are lost in a world that past them by. Don’t take judgment from an old fart too harshly. Just like everyone else, old people live in a bubble. Leave it be, the bubble will burst, she will die and you won’t have to worry about her judgment anymore.
