Hey motorist, why don’t you get off your lazy butt and stop complaining about bikes in crosswalks? As a motorist, cyclist and pedestrian in downtown Halifax I understand the whole picture. You get antsy behind the wheel because don’t get enough exercise and you want to get places as fast as possible; you get sneaky on a bike because safe travel routes are limited; and as a pedestrian you’re running scared of both of these potentially emotionally charged speed demons, but hopefully not across crosswalks because then you’ll probably also become a subject of this tired debate. It’s simple: cars pose the largest threat and should be saddled with the responsibility of travelling slowly in areas where bicycles and pedestrians are present, and keeping a level of awareness proportional to the hazard they pose. I don’t think that a person rolling pedestrian-speed across a crosswalk poses the same kind of threat that cars turning across crosswalks do. Why not just wait for your light? agreed. The LAW where cyclists are concerned is that you don’t ride across a crosswalk. Besides, it’s not just motorists that bitch about bikes in crosswalks. Pedestrians, who are doing their best to get across in one piece, don’t need to deal with a moving vehicle.

Really??? Another asswad that thinks his argument is better than all the other “well I should be allowed to do it this way because…” arguments about cars, cycles and peds. For fuck sakes, the law is the law no matter how much carnage your vehicle can cause. STUPIDEST ARGUMENT EVER!!! It’s the responsibility of all parties involved to make sure they are acting safely and within all confines of the law. How Fucking hard is that to grasp? Accidents will happen, people are not programmable machines and we are all subject to human error.

Accidents happen because someone, whether driver cyclist, and/or pedestrian did something stupid (usually not looking) or wearing dark clothing at night. I like how the OP claims to know “the whole picture” due to their omnipresent status as motorist, cyclist, and pedestrian. Well I too am one of those rare birds, and I disagree with this bitch. It’s simple: everyone needs to be careful. If a biker whizzes out into the street without looking, yes a car’s gonna pulverize them, but it’s their own fault; not to mention that they’ll have traumatized some poor individual who I’m sure didn’t wake up in the morning hoping to run over a cyclist that day.
