One has to wonder why when looking for a quote on auto insurance having been canceled due to non payment makes the rate double even though the quote is for a full payment for the year not a payment plan? I’m talking 22 years of clear driving record and no accidents…

Does the fact one looses their job and their car and there insurance during the mandatory wait of six weeks you always go through with EI, does that make them a poor driver?

Yes, there is something wrong with the insurance industry in Nova Scotia. —R.Roads

  1. Imagine all the trouble you would have saved yourself if you actually talked to the insurance company to let them know your situation rather than wait for them to cancel due to you not paying them.

  2. How do you think I feel? I haven’t owned a car for the last 12 years by choice. I use transit to get around and make a living driving large commercial vehicles.

Now that I might be getting into a situation that requires a car I checked out insurance rates and oh I’d better buy lots of lube before letting them rape my ass. Apparently the letters of reference from past and current employers outlining the hundredes of thousands accident free commercial driving over the last 17 years mean nothing to potential insurers. I’m considered a newly insured all over again.

I looked up my old 1998 policy from Nsure in Yarmouth and I paid $460.00 for 2mil liability and full comprehensive coverage on a 92 Cavalier. A 5 year old Kia Rio would now cost me $2900.00 for the same coverage but an increased deductible to $1000 per incident. Yeah sure, you insurance guys are hurting profit-wise.

  3. How about making your payments on time, or set them up automatically? You could also pay the full annual amount as one payment like most people do. I love my insurance rates 🙂

  4. Insurance is nothing but a big scam! They bend you over the table with sky high rates, and then when you do have an accident and a need to call them to report a claim they will do everything in their power to not pay out the claim, INSURANCE IS A SCAM!!!! I’m just saying

  5. I have never had a problem collecting on a claim. And for those who yell scam, I bet after something happens you’ll be glad to have it.

  6. VOR, your situation totally sucks, I feel for ya man. When I left home my parents stopped insuring me on their car and I went about 2 years without insurance because I didn’t have a car… it really screwed me over too. But in the case of the OP, you should have called the company to see if there was something you could work out with them. I guess hindsight’s 20/20 though…

  7. Car insurance is a scam. Driver licensing is a monitoring program.

Lose the car. Gain your freedom.

Count the busts. The car is a tool.
