Watching the news now makes me fucking sick. What the hell has this country become? We are taxed to death on everything. As if the rising price of gas isn’t enough…now the price of milk goes up AGAIN??. The government has us by the BALLS…taxing necessities to DEATH. I would like to know why gas is so expensive when crude oil is the lowest price it has been in 10 years. That’s funny…10 years ago gas was 60 cents a liter and today it’s 88.
Not to mention the members of our wonderful government driving expensive cars, staying in posh hotels, eating at five star restaurants…and who the fuck do you think pays for that? We do. The poor little fucking taxpayers.
Driving into the city toward armdale rotary is so much fun…swerving to avoid potholes the size of my car. Don’t forget the constant cuts in healthcare and education. We are taxed to death so that members of our government can live glamorous, wealthy, fat cat lifestyles. Know what’s even scarier? WE are sitting back and letting this bullshit happen!!!!!
This article appears in Mar 6-12, 2008.

I believe the goddamn ‘powers that be’ keep the roads in appalling shape because they can get so much in tax revenues from garages repairing our broken vehicles. You’re preaching to the choir, son – the only way those asshats are going to listen to anything is when approached by an angry mob with torches and pitchforks.Recently, someone just sent me photos of an extensive snow palace where rich Arabs can ski in the middle of the desert – on our oil money. How’s that for the ultimate piss off??
Everyone is bitching about the price of gas these days, but none of you understand where the price is comming from. All you do is talk about crude oil. Yes gas is made with crude, but the finished product trades as a seperate commodity on energy exchanges. That means that gasoline’s price effected by more than just the crude market, such as supply and demand of the finished product. Do your research before you post a bitch please
Eric- you’re a terd. MISSED the point all together just so you could prove you know something about economics.POINT – people are sick of feeling like they are being goudged while the government sits on their fat asses reaping the benefits of power.we all would like a break, like the breaks the government officials are given to a a… I don’t know …spend our money!
I’m sorry, I’d agrue your points but you have none besided your belief in ‘government stereotypes’. They’re so rich, doing nothing… Gawd! I’m sorry, but I bet they do a lot. Every job is harder than it looks.
The only way this is going to change Luc is when we stop the perks and high salaries given to government officials on all sides – fed. prov. mun. I’ve just read that in transfer payments to the 10 major municipalities in Canada, Hfx got the lowest at $27/head while Ottawa got over $400/head. You’ve got to ask yourself why. Pitchforks and burning torches sound really good to me about now. Maybe government officials should be reduced to a voluntary basis with no salary and very restricted expense accounts. That’s the only way we’ll get rid of the Fage’s. You forgot to mention property tax assessment that have recently been inflated across the board to make way for higher property taxes. And what about the NS hydro increase? I don’t know about you, but this city is quickly becoming too expensive for me to live in. Hell, Canada is too expensive to live in. Time to storm the Bastille.Jeanne excellent response :).
agree with BJ, Luc, and Jeanne. Adam and Eric are Wad. I am not say that these officials don’t do anything but when the media is publizing their expenses, behavior, and salaries, meanwhile we -the general public just get to hear about yet another price increase it makes you evaluate things!
The reason gas is so high, you incompitent moron, is because our resources are running out.
here is another one…Courtney- you are missing the point!!!it isn’t just about GAS!it’s about the power company, the milk company, the fuckin’ banks charging fees up the wozoo for nothing, rent being huge every where except in the crime invested areas, taxes on everything going up, etc, etc, etc.the cost of LIVING is too expensive and there are people who are in our government who can expense their tiolet paper, drive huge RENTED (by the government)SUV’s that contribute to the depletion of our world as we know it- THEY GET TO EXPENSE IT AT EVERYONE’S COST, AND on top of that get a $95,000 salary. it just causes people to feel helpless and very angy. Wondering where the money for theses increases go – why does there always seem to be more taking and no balance in giving.Just think about it- why does it feel like WE the general public, the small business owners, the minimum wage workers, the single parents, the elderly continue to be pushed down while the rest of the BIG money population continues to take money??
How about this? I have a friend on welfare. She cannot work because she has some serious ailments that prevent her from doing so. She gets $825 a month and $625 goes for rent (in a dive, I might add) – that leaves her $200 a month for phone, heat and groceries. She has to choose between keeping warm and eating so she always has an empty fridge. The last time she went to the food bank, she got two loaves of bread that were fucking hollow. How are people like that supposed to cope when us average joes can’t make even make it stretch? Meanwhile, NS Power and other greedy corps are only too willing to pay out hefty bonuses to their management -and for what? For doing their fucking jobs???? Oh, don’t get me started – I’ve got 50 years of pent up rage over this bullshit.
In Canada, government has raped and pillaged Canadian’s pocket books more and more since WWI. Quebec certainly eats up quite a bit of that tax money with their wining and squealing. Example? Quebec students haven’t had a tuition increase in 13 years, and they have the lowest tuition in the country (what, about half of what it is in NS?) Guess who the biggest whiners were yesterday at the Stop the Tuition increase protests across the country yesterday? Yep, the Quebecers… And they want MORE MONEY from the feds so their students can get a “break” on their tuition. Well isn’t that nice?Perhaps we should all move to Quebec?
Hey Mike, stop using my name…I was the 1st one here with that name. You’re giving me a bad name.
Better?
Grrr – I guess I have to log off and log on for changes to take effect…
Dear Mike 1979.I couldn’t agree more with your statement but you should know that in Quebec students fought tooth and nail to get those tuition fees low and frozen. I know because I got my degree in Quebec. They didn’t lobby the feds either, they went straight for the juglar vein – the prov. gov’t. and won. Maybe if students here put as much pressure on the NS Gov’t as the Que. students did over the years, they’d get results. Don’t blame Quebec students/activists for being pro-active.
Hey bj,Good Point, I wasn’t aware there was as much wranging with the provincial govt. as what went down in Quebec. My anger isn’t really directed at students, trust me, but it is a bit of a conundrum with the Quebec thing, since as a province they get quite a bit of pull in this country. I guess the issue with NS is that we will never have the population density to become self sufficient. Quebec has 1 quarter of the country within it’s borders, so they have more means too.If anything, we are loosing population, and it’s only going to get harder. We all know Rodney’s priorities are with his “down home kin” so Post secondary education isn’t much of a priority with them. It’s kind of funny that they are more than willing to pump millions, if not billions into the Commonwealth games, yet they are more than willing to leave students starving and struggling to get by. Well I hope we can vote him out soon and get someone in office who cares a little more about the “next generation”.
Welcome to the dirty 30’s. History always repeats itself. The higher up those fat bastards are the harder the fall. (can’t wait for that one)
You have managed to simplify all of these issues so much that I don’t even know where to begin.
I am sitting back watching you all yammer at one another about my article…each and every one of you with blinders on…..not a clue as to what’s going on around you. Throwing out big words here and there trying to make yourselves believe that you know what the hell is going on with this country. Did you know that cars can run without gasoline, that the price of milk went up but the farmers won’t see any of the increase, that anytime something is invented that could save us the taxpayer money or take tax money from the government that product gets bought by the government and then squashed? Bet you didn’t know any if that. Perhaps you should all take the time to do some research before you throw your “big” words around and try to play with the big kids. Something needs to be done people and it takes more than one person having their say in The Coast.
Wow, thank you Secret/Anti fat cat government bastards. I’m really glad you are here to guide us all through this great big grown up world. I don’t know what I’d do without you.Thank you for taking the time to share your infinite wisdom with us peons down here on planet Earth. It sure is swell of you. It’s is really nice to know that:Cars don’t need gasoline to run;The price of milk went up, but the farmers won’t see any of the increase;and especially:That anytime something is invented that could save us the taxpayer money or take tax money from the government that product gets bought by the government and then squashed.I am shocked and appalled! Thank you for showing me the way.Sincerely,
Dearest Mike 1979,Thanks for proving my point that you are all idiots and as well for taking the time to repeat everything I said…must have taken you awhile. Like I said….blinders.. You can believe whatever you want to believe Mikey….and watch out for those big square things on wheels called a “bus” when you are crossing the street with your head up your ass. Sincerely good luck with that.
Sorry Mike1979..I should clarify as this would probably cause you alot of confusion….a bus is not so much square as it is rectangular.
Secret- you made your point initially and now with your sarcasm and arrogance have manage to make your whole rant seemed tarnished and POINTLESS.I agreed with you up until you started saying NO ONE had a clue about what was really going on in our country.I’m done with this “article”
Secret,Thanks for the heads up. I’ll watch out for you and for the bus. If anyone is an expert about having their head up their ass, we all know it would be you. So I will take those as expert words from an expert… Asshat. And don’t worry, it didn’t take me too long. I wouldn’t waste /that/ much time on you, Secret :). There’s this thing called copy and paste, perhaps you should look into it some time.Cheers,
Secret,What are you doing about it?You have no problem acting like an arse to people who once supported what you said. I haven’t heard any suggestions from you as to what could be done.It could be hard coming up with something. After all, just being so smart must occupy quite a large chunk of your day. Mike 79 knows what I’m saying, but I’ll dumb it down just for you:You’re an Asshat.
Oh Mike 1979 you make me laugh. For someone not “wasting so much time” on me you seem quite busy adding your little comments to my article. Probably checking to see if there are new comments at least 10 times a day. You are pathetic. Go away. I read a few of your “comments” on other articles…all incoherant babble, wasting space. The only person that appears not to be completely clueless is Jeanne, thanks for the support by the way. I don’t usually get so mouthy..only when people talk about things they haven’t a clue about. And what the hell is up with asshat? You people are STRANGE. I wrote that article to make people think…and perhaps see if anyone else supports what I am saying. But as usual as soon as someone says something that is different from the “status quo” way of thinking….it’s considered stupid and arrogent. My article got attention. That was my intention. I am done trading insults with lazy insolent people.
Secret,You may be done with this conversation but I’m not. The mere fact that you are “trading” insults seems to imply that you are also involved. Wouldn’t that make you just as much of a “Pathetic, Lazy & Insolent” person as the rest of us then? What exactly makes me pathetic? Because I dare to comment on your posting? Following that logic (if you know how to use it, or know what that is) only you have the right to use this venue to put forth your ideas? Perhaps I am mistaken then. I’m not going away anytime soon, so get used to it. And I’ll be here for you anytime Secret, to point out when you are an asshat, or to make you laugh. Whichever comes first.Best Regards,
Dear Mike1979I have read the article and all the commments. I’m sorry. I agree with Secret, and Jeanne too. You are an idiot Mike1979. Those people want to make a difference and all you want to do is crap all over them. Instead of typing away on your comupter putting people down and insulting them for coming forward and trying to make things better, maybe you should try to do something to make a difference. That is if you care, which you probably don’t which would explain why you are being a dick. It’s people like you Mike1979 that this country is the way it is. I want to say thank you to Secret and Jeanne for making us think and bringing our attention to this. Go away Mike1979 and take your “asshat” followers with you. We don’t need your negativity here or anywhere for that matter.
I completely agree with you Buster. Mike1979 likes to hear himself talk…spewing negative, idiotic things from his mouth. I think it’s great Secret and Jeanne made their comments. It made me and my friends think about it that’s for sure. Go away Mike1979. Perhaps we all should just ignore Mikey Mike. People like that like the attention whether it’s good or bad. Enough of negative evil Mike1979. Now anybody have any ideas as to how we can make a difference, or initiate a difference?
Buster,Don’t be sorry. I’m glad you agree with Secret and Jeanne, that is your prerogative.I am sorry you think that I’m an idiot, and that you think all I want to do is crap all over the people who want to make a difference. Nothing could be further from the truth. If you’d actually read the progression of posts here you would see that it is in fact Secret who started with the crapping. My original post was about educational funding, which has something to do with tax dollars and government incompetence, doesn’t it?Secret said: “Perhaps you should all take the time to do some research before you throw your “big” words around and try to play with the big kids. Something needs to be done people and it takes more than one person having their say in The Coast.”So, in other words, since I don’t agree with him (and actually truth be told there are certainly nuggets of truth there) then I must have my blinders on. After all, Secret is just another one of us, on here having their say in the Coast. Hypocrite. Where is his research? What, he reads the paper? That’s great. I can read headlines too, but that doesn’t make me an expert either.Perhaps Secret, since he wants to make such a difference, should get off his ass and actually DO something to make a difference.Am I being a dick because I am sticking up for myself Buster? Because I am still typing? Is that an example of how I embody this country and the way it is?I’m not going anywhere, but feel free (in vain) to help Secret make his point, that anyone who wishes to enter into a discussion that differs from the posters views should be intimidated thorough lax verbal assembly.Negativity? You’re one to talk Buster. Read Secret’s original post (at the top of the page if you get lost on the way) to see who set the tone for this article, if you are interested. With Love,
Wow Secret/Buster/Tinker/Anti fat cat government bastards, how many pseudonyms do you have, anyway? I guess the sky is the limit when you want to hear yourself speak…Best Regards,
Wow. Mike1979 is about 10 crayons short of a box. lol. So anyway I agree with Tinker. Ignore him and he’ll go away. Who has some ideas here that doesn’t involve slamming everyone else. lol. Jeanne where are you?
Buster JUST STOP talking to him or ABOUT him. He LOVES the attention. Don’t even acknowledge him. Yeah where is Jeanne? I like her. JEAAANNNNNNEEEEEEEEEE………..
I have lots of ideas that don’t involve “slamming everyone else” .As far as political idealogy is concerned, Anti fat cat government bastards seems to be aligned with the Libertarian point of view:Small government. Low taxes.Little to no government interferece with the economy.Certainly no costly crown corporations.Goverment without Lear Jets.I guess if someone was looking for a way to make a difference you could join these folks:http://www.libertarian.ca/I'm pretty sure that no one runs under the Libertarian banner around here, perhaps that’s a constructive start?
See Mike you know how to not be a dick. Great you are ALOT more enjoyable this way.Now those are great issues, however those will need time and effort. What about the issues at hand that need attention right now….gas, milk, electricity? I know people that are practically starving and walk miles to work because they can’t afford the ever increasing gas and food prices.
Tinker,True, time and efffort is a necessity in regards to politics. Of course, all of these issues are inter-realted don’t you think?Gas – multi-national conglomerates, Goverment regulation and taxation etc. A purely free market system would help solve that problem but I realize that it won’t instantly solve all problems, and would probably take years.Milk? Well, Nova Scotia has a small market, and our farmers probably don’t have as much of a market as other Milk Boards in other provinces/States. Solution: Perhaps find a way to distribute our milk products far and wide? If they can sell more to other markets, perhaps it will drop our prices here at home?Electricity. Well nothing gets me “fired up” more than NSP, but again, we need competition. There are folks here in this province right now looking to invest Millions in alternative enrgy sources, which theoretically would drive prices down the more alternative suppliers there are…I guess that is counter-productive to NSP’s interests though, so how long do you think they’ll use their stall tactics on that one for?I believe there was an announcement a week or two back, and the province had finally moved a little further in that direction. But baby steps will not make a difference especially in the short term I guess. It’s too bad!
Sometimes, it is a ‘supply and demand’ thing. For those who can, try to boycott milk, :)!
