I never feel smarter than when I read the comments people leave on news stories on a certain Halifax news papers ( wink wink ) website.
Seriously, is everyone in Nova Scotia mildly racist, near illiterate and knee jerkish morons that like to sum up complicated issues with cliches?, or just the ones who like to leave comments on the stories.
PS – Don’t give me that ” if you don’t it than move some place else” crap. I am born and raised here and am STAYING! i just think we can do better!

That particular newspaper moderates, edits, and censors every single post. There is no discussion, no exchange of ideas, because posts don’t show up until hours after they are made. And it makes no difference how offensive, inane, or illiterate the post is, as long as it doesn’t include personal attacks or “bad words”. The people who post on that site aren’t interested in discourse. They are interested in getting up on the cybersoapbox.On the other hand, LLWWB used to be the playground of the typical semiliterate trolls. But because of the nature of the site, stupid or offensive posts invariably met with immediate and ruthless smackdown. And over time, most of the bigots, e-tards, and knuckle draggers flounced off in a sulk. Free speech at work, fellow fake name sock-puppets. Some call it cyberbullying. I call it natural selection.
It is like that on the CBC site too. I get fed up reading the useless comments on there…most of them would make you ashamed to be a Canadian. Well put Miranda.
I had to stop reading the comments on that website because they are ALL written by such illiterate, ill-informed, negative, reactionary, conspiracy theorist, mouth-breathing, backwards hillbillies. And to think that the MAJORITY of people probably think just like them. It’s nauseating and infuriating.Can’t deal.
See this is why I don’t get it when some people get on here dissin’ the Coast and their running of this bitch site… When you consider the local alternatives, IMHO, it makes LTWWB look pretty damn good…

Techcafe, I believe the OP was referring to the typical knuckledragging commentary on that OTHER online paper. You know, the respectable one. I think the commentary here on the Coast is, overall, and with certain notable exceptions, pretty intelligent. Except when it degenerates into debauched thread hijackery.
@Miranda, ah ic, well i’m not even sure what that ‘other’ publication is; i could venture a guess, but i have no desire to. i already waste enough of my life on this site (hangs head in shame and skulks away).
I’ll pipe up for this one. The ” other ” news sites, and I can think of two right off the bat, where so called enlightened people post, no matter what the topic. Whether it be a fluff piece or something with some real newsworthy teeth, post I suspect just to see their comments in cyber print. They are, most likely, closet wanna be writers who really have 0 to write about or say so they live vicariously through their own diatribe / drivel. They probably keep going back to where their commentary is and rub 1 off while their at it.

Nope Techcafe, just a comment, I’m not the type to waste my time with useless bullshit like 1 posting for no apparent reason other than to see it on the screen and 2 I get my jollies from real live people, you might want to try it. you no, the poster is write!they need to be teaching better grammer in the schools. I mean we don’t all have to sound like professional righters or nothing. But I have noticed that alot of people either over use commas, or don’t use periods, at all. Don’t even get me started on the semi colon!
