About twice a week I get a call from the friendly Student Loans people – and not the NS ones. They have been outsourced to a lovely call center, which is great for their employees.. however, EVERY time I answer the phone I get a recorded voice asking me to hold the line. They never call after 6pm, and they always call my cellphone (thus eating up my daytime minutes). After about 10 minutes of waiting for someone, I almost always hang up because it is a waste of my money waiting for someone to decide they actually want to talk to me.

Today was a bit different. Today I waited about 5 minutes, and then got a recorded message saying that all of their agents are too busy and could I please call back later?

Uh, I do not think so. YOU are the one that called me, you can at least pick up the phone. I’m really tired of their automated service calling me when they actually have someone ready to talk to me.

  1. I hope that’s future me sebastion. Wouldn’t you want to maybe call them back and make sure it’s not something important. I mean it is your debt and all….

Unless you are just avoiding making payments, in which case you know why they are calling.

  2. Call Revenue Canada some day.

You get a message that says “We are busy, fuck off”, then it hangs up.

Poor little Revenue Canada workers, mew, mew, mew.

They were on a job action one day at Purdy’s when I tried to cross their Info Picket. They stepped in front of me and blocked me.

I asked why they were protesting, and they started with “pay equity, blah, blah, blah”

I said “I don’t see what the problem is, just ask your Dad or your Uncle or whichever relative got you the job for a raise.”

They don’t hire them because of drive or ability, unless its the ability to drive drunk uncle Angus home.

  3. National student loan centre is open until like 8 or something in the evening. I’ve called them a couple times to adjust my payment schedule or ask questions. Why don’t you hang up when they call you, and call them on your own time later?

Also, I once had a roommate with the same name as me, and when they called and left a message, they didn’t say the last name… made for super confusion! They’re not always that bright…

  4. I think I speak for kitty and myself when I say I would rather lick a donkey than take a call from student loans.

and unless you’re planning on attending clown college like sebastian, you won’t have it paid off in 2 years. If it only takes that long, you really didn’t need the loan to begin with.

  5. I’ve been payin’ for 5 years now, never took extensions or interest relief, and still have ~ 3 more to go.
and if it weren’t for the gubment stealing my tax returns every year, it would have likely been over a decade…

  6. Eek, that’s not what I want to here, my first task at hand is getting a job when i graduate in June. Step at a time.

Fortunately I have had some scholarships during my time at school. Hopefully that will lesson the blow. Or it could just be wishful thinking.

  7. zZz,
what do you mean by ‘clown college’?

    …or…

    sebastian_,
where are you getting all those birthday gigs?
