I don’t want to so much bitch but make public a thought I had yesterday. There is no real cab stand at the bridge terminal, and we all know the buses are super shitty, so if there was a cab hanging around I would 9 times out of 10 take it. I hate this weather. I hate waiting at the bridge. Cabs should be waiting where the money is to be made. Just my thought. —Likes to get places faster

  1. there are usually cabs sitting over by the sportsplex, off the terminal property. if not there, up in the back part of lot.
anytime i have been over there, there is at least 3 or 4 cabs just parked there, waiting for a fare. not sure if they at all hours of day, but the various times i have been there, i have seen them.

  2. I had to call a cab last night for someone stuck at the bridge terminal! Since he only had $18 in his account, he needed a cab with debit. Not only were there no cabs waiting anywhere near, but all Dartmouth cabs’ debit was down, and no other cab companies had cars in Dartmouth. He had to wait in the crappy weather for over an hour until his bus came.

  3. couldn’t you walk any place in under an hour for the price of < $18 cab ride? I haven’t taken a cab (in any state of mind to remember the distance/price average) in quite a while… so I may be wrong.

  4. You could just call for one OP…unless you’re referring to a terminal in Dartmouth. I found the cabs there take their effing time, or there just aren’t enough of them. The Halifax one named after a type of building where you loose money is sooo quick. I call from my apartment when I’m about to walk down the stairs outside and by the time I get to the front of the house they’re right there! They ARE the fast ones ;D.

  5. I overheard a person calling a cab from a bus stop on Barrington (Scotia Square). The person was told they do not take fares from that location! I think the reason may be due to the fact someone would phone a cab and then their bus would appear and they leave. Just my take on the situation.

  6. Ooooh, that’s a good point, Koda!

Um…I went to an xmas party at the holiday inn by the bridge in the darkside, and it was about $25-ish with tip to Lacewood/Parkland if that helps. It’s about that much to the same location from Barrington/SGR too.

  7. A cab from downtown…. Scotia Square to be exact.. to Parkland Dr in Clayton Park costs $20 even. That is not a walk I am willing to make without planning for it first. It takes 2 hours. So being able to walk somewhere you can get to in a cab for $18? No thanks. You’re better off waiting where you are for a bus to get you there, or at least somewhere closer where you can hop on another bus.

  8. If we didn’t have a monopoly you can bet there would be a ton of cabs wherever there is money to be made. Instead we have one substandard cab company who can and will do whatever they please, certainly not cater to their customers.

  9. i think it’s something like $3.60 when you first get in and $.50 for every 10th of a kiligam after that. provided you don’t get stuck in the black holes of traffic. some drivers only use their warp speed, when the road is fairly clear, nanu nanu. beam me the fuck up, there’s no intelligent life here.

  10. “$.50 for every 10th of a kiligam “

a little early to be snorting bath salts, isn’t it?

I thought it went up a dime per time interval. I think that because I’m pretty sure the meter keeps ticking while you’re sitting at a red.

  11. and fair enough Jonno.
    I couldn’t recall… though….
I think it was only about that much to ship mindsnapper off from north end to middle of dartmouth though, wasn’t it? like $25 or something?
that’s a great deal farther than your downtown to CP trek

  12. ok – here’s a question – do you guys tip your cab drivers? (not trying to start a controversy – just asking!)

  13. I want to know about this tipping thing too.. What’s common, am I an idiot for tipping? And how much is appropriate?

  14. couple bucks if it’s a decent trip, didn’t stink or scare you, and especially if they helped with bags or groceries… etc…
kinda like a take-out order tip.
nothing crazy…. if even at all.

  15. Streatch and his flunkies need to get their heads outta their bums on the rooflight moratoriam! It isn’t working! I tried twice on different nights before Christmas to be responsible and call a cab from the filthy dirty monopoly in Dartmouth….even at 6pm on a Sunday night my cell timed out four times without an answer…..drinking and driving again I guess…only in this backwater province can you get top heavy laws without thought to alternatives! If only MADD would throw it’s weight behind better cab service instead of making sure I’m at risk if I have two lousy beer! Untill then, I’m a proud member of DAMM ….drunks against mad mothers….

  16. There’s a taxi stand by the driver’s trailer at the bridge terminal. Lately though I never see cabs there, but when I wanted to park my motorbike there they were always in the way.

It would be nice if there was competition in the Darkside.

  17. I’m a DAMM – er here too Streetneat. Not only do MADD help to enforce drunk driving laws (fine with me) but they are the ones keeping the NSLC as a monopoly, and also the ones we can thank for our “social pricing index” that keeps beer prices artificially inflated to 200%-300% above the market prince – in the civilized world.
