Seriously cabbies? Get some manners and some respect. Currently the strike is putting A LOT of us out of a mode of transportation, and it sucks, but we are making do.
I have had to use a cab over the past 48 hours and the last 3 times the cab drivers have been awful! I called and requested the first cab and the minute I got in the car he was annoyed with my destination, Fairview to Bedford Highway, close to MSVU, get over it buddy! He let me know that I was putting him in an imposition. Then he went on to bitch about the fact that I was using debit and he said eff this and eff that about my debit card. He told me that the government was going to find me because “of that fucking piece of plastic” and that he should let me out on the side of the road for “bringing that god awful piece of shit magnetic strip in his car.” Then when we pulled into my driveway he was annoyed that he had to turn around, GET OVER IT! It’s your job!
This morning I got a different cab driver, who pulled in, I saw him, left my apartment went down one flight of stairs and he had took off! I had to chase him down and then when I finally got in the car he said that he had places to be and things to do. He didn’t know how to get to the destination and when I gave him directions he didn’t believe me, pulled over, cut someone off and got out the GPS. He then continued to get angry because he had to get the GPS out. Such is life, I have had some very friendly cab drivers but for the most part they are rude and disrespectful. —Tired of the Attitude

It would be interesting to know who hires the drivers around here, and what those who are hiring are looking for. I am sure the job pays well. But those who do it are generally – not good with directions, lack manners, and most importantly don’t take pride in their job.
Old school cabbies had respect for their job and themselves, they dressed well, with a cap and gloves, perhaps even a tie, and they shut up and delivered one to their destination politely. I would like to see some more of that.
he may have been disgruntled because of the crack down on drunk cab drivers…
I’d be grumpy too if I couldn’t get my morning shots in….
Moonlighting transit drivers perhaps….?
id be pissed off as a cab driver to. having to pick up all the transit slack and i know its from last october but for nowhere near the wages as bus drivers http://www.news957.com/news/local/article/…
Can you blame them? Cabbie’s probably get treated quite badly by the general population ’cause let’s face it, it takes little skill to do that job. I’ve met 4 PhD holders though in my years of taking cabs. Most recently a Mathematician, who couldn’t find work when he moved here. It’s all so sad.
Oh well at least Casio Taxi used to have cool jingle.
don’t know what cab you been getting o.p., but when i call casino, they are always prompt, curtious, and friendly. and their cars have a nice clean smell to them. very seldom, have i ever haad a driver, even remotely like you say you had.
Most of the cabbies I’ve driven with have been nice enough, but they do swear a lot.
“Fuck this, fuck that”
And then they bitch to me about their kids, their wives, and whatever dumb problem they had that day.
I wish they would shut up and be more professional.
I would drive if I could afford a car.
I think the cab companies hire based on one’s knowledge of the city more than any professionalism displayed by the applicant. With GPS maybe even that has gone out the window. As a passenger, I’ve had no problems with cabbies, as a driver, I find them on the dickish side.
I’ve had a few good ones and a few bad ones. I’ve had some try to rip me off when they think I’m too drunk to notice.
Lots of people are treated badly by the general public, PiPi. It doesn’t give them the right to treat a person that way. Especially one that hasn’t been rude in the first place.
“doesn’t give them the right to treat a person that way” No it doesn’t, but, they are human just like the rest of us and it is (sometimes) understandable.
