I don’t know if (some) cabbies are crooks, or just plain stupid. I also don’t know if maybe it’s the policy of the company they work for, but why in the hell can that a) sometimes not make change at all for your fare, and b) often make a big damn fuss about it when you ask them too. I specifically said i’d be paying in cash when I called you and you asked, so why is it that for my 8.50 fare, which I only asked for a 10 back from my 20 for, can you not even accommodate that?
No tens in the cab? Not two fives? 5 toonies? 10 loonies? Nothing? You are running a business out of your vehicle, or at least taking the payments for your services there, it is YOUR (or your companies) responisibility to be equiped to recieve the payments for said service. It is not my responsiblity to either have exact change on hand, or to just leave whatever it take to round up as a tip.
Its was lucky for the cabby today that I had my debit/credit card and was willing to use it, because he would not have been getting my 20 untill he came back with the EXACT change!
—None of this would have happened if the 14 has come today,… but thats a whole other bitch with a bright red flag beside it, that i’m sure nobody wants to hear.

I’ve even had cabbies round up without asking me and give me back just a bill with no change. I’m like “What the hell? Where is the rest of it?”
Just imagine how they treat tourists
I must say that I never have this problem. They usually have their jar or container of money out to give me change when I tell them what I want back. If it is 6 and change and I say 8 (need the toonie for coffee or bus) thats what I recieve hassle free. Maybe you were their first fare of the day or something.
Next time get the cab # and persons name (just ask for a reciept) then report them. enough reports and something might get done.
Shit, I got the opposite: I got bitched at by a cabbie once for using debit.
If a cabbie has no change- they get no fare. Period. What happens if I buy gas at the station? They give me change back. No change? Get fucked. I tip only if they deserve it. It is a priviledge, not a right.
Do these operators have all their necessary paper work in the first place?
I have never had the change issue in a cab. Although I have had cabs refuse to take me to Dartmouth after a fun night in Halifax. It sucks. I get in the cab with my friends, we say Downtown Dartmouth please, and they say I don’t go to Dartmouth. It’s hard enough getting a cab at 2 or 3 am!
All of this can be resolved by complaining to the taxi commission… Just a thought, mostly because the taxi service in this city (especially the “we don’t go there” attitude, which is completely out of line, they can’t refuse a fare) is absolute shit. However, the commission can’t clean the baddies up if you don’t complain. Just make sure you get the light number.
yah i have never had this problem either. But i would love to. Dont have change for a 20 great news for me… free ride home.
Dr. Fever: I have called casino cab once to complain, I was as polite as possible yet got bitched at and they hung up on me. I have not taken a casino cab in over a year as a result. However, I think yellow cab is great…hint hint nudge nudge.
