Why is it so hard to drive with all these f’in buses on the road. I’m trying to get to work and this bus drives out into the lane making me swerve into the other lane! The car coming had to stop hard so I could get around the bus. Frig sakes, who audits these jackoffs anyway? —No points McGillicutty

  1. o.p., don’t you know by now, that transit has the power to do just this. they overrule you anyday. it was on tele and radio a zillion times, and in the papers.
the buses have right of way, 99 times out of 100, and there is fuck all that you can do about it, cept to slam into ne of them.
transit has go times, and as such, do not have to take into any consideration, about how important your 10 seconds of being late are. trust the city staff, to fuck everything up for you. and then there are the piles of snow, still to be taken away to consider in the factor. if the bus can’t get close to stop, they have to stay in traffic, and as such, you are sposed to cede right of way. it’s all there at their web site, check it out.

  2. The busses don’t officially have the right-of-way, LS.

There’s talk of granting them the right-of-way, but currently they don’t have it.

However, cars are generally assholes when it comes to busses — they try to jump ahead of them at 4 way/3 ways (especially the one on inglis/southpark/young) or the bus is pulling out and someone tries to shoot out ahead of them and bitch when the bus doesn’t come to a screetching halt to let them pass.

Bus drivers have to be somewhat aggressive out there, OP because cars figure THEY have the right-of-way 99% of the time. Remember: bus > car when it comes to crashing.

  3. Sounds like you just tried to sneak around a bus because you were to impatient to wait and got yourself caught up in a crappy situation. Doesn’t sound like the buses fault at all.

  4. McGillicutty, did you swerve to avoid a collision? Were you paying attention to the road, and the bus blindly pulled out?

    – OR –

Were you on your crack-berry, not aware of your surroundings, being a pretentious prick who waits for no one?

  5. Yeah, OP, it sounds like you went into the other lane to get around the bus because you were impatient and the bus started coming out and you almost crashed into on-coming traffic. If the car in the OTHER lane had to jump on his brakes to accommodate you, you’re in the wrong here. Whenever I see a bus pull into a stop or just sitting at a stop, I wait for 5 seconds or more to see if it’s going to pull out, as I get up early enough in the mornings so if I get stuck behind a bus, I won’t be late for work. Others should try this.

  6. If the OP had already been alongside the bus, the driver should have seen them in their mirror. Sounds like the OP just cut out and tried to speed by. The city should expropriate some land near bus stops and make a space for the bus to pull into, allowing other vehicles to safely drive by. OP…..at least you drive and are not stuck on said bus with the other $2.25ers.

  7. They do have some places like that Sebastian, for busses to pull into but it’s not feasible everywhere, especially in downtown Halifax where there is no room for things like that, unless they get rid of a piece of sidewalk.

  8. I will attest the drivers are crazy at times… though that’s because so many idiot drivers cut them off….
driver this morn hit the brakes and I went into the pole I was using for balance, standing by the door….. it seconding as a protective wall for all the other passengers from my barreling body.

  9. There are lots of buses on the road so there are less impatient, irresponsible drivers on the road-such as yourself. Be glad theres so many buses, so you spend less time in traffic. Could you imagine if everyone who commutes via the bus drove a car-The city would be mayhem. Stop crying op, and think for a second.

  10. i take barrington after seeing the parental units…buses go first…i’m talking to you imma gonna go in the left-hand turn lane
