Moved into the Ocean Towers because there was supposed to be a bus stop right in front of it.

It turns out that the bus stop is actually across the street with no crosswalk to get onto the right side of the road.

I was nearly hit by a car yesterday coming home from job hunting!

  1. Consider the roads in parts of south eastern Asia, and consider what you are complaining about. Sounds pathetic, right?

  2. I was going to say the same thing SD, but I didn’t because the OP seems to have enough trouble as it is with no job and no bus stop.

  3. Amazing that the health officials let that particular landlord get away with not having any type of pest control program in their buildings.

  4. They have the bus stop across the street so the muggers/rapists in the North End get a decent chance to bag some fresh game.

  5. You can paint the towers and give them a new name but they will forever be brunswick towers. You’ll have more then just a bus stop issue living there.

  6. You’ve got bigger concerns than the crosswalk. You’ll soon discover a bed bug infestation and lose all of your belongings. 🙁

  7. OH NOES NOT A BUS STOP ACROSS THE STREET!

OH NOES YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO MAKE IT ACROSS THE STREET TO CATCH A BUS?

Shit, it’s called “mass transit” not “your personal chauffeur” Some of us have to walk a whole lot farther and cross a whole lotta shitty streets to catch the bus, my friend.

  8. Actually, there is a bus stop right in front of Ocean Towers, for pretty much every southbound bus in the city. You only have to cross the street if you’re heading towards the north end on the 9. All the other northbound and Dartmouth buses let you off immediately behind the towers, on Gottigen. All other issues aside, I can’t think of a property that’s better served by transit.

  9. It’s weird that buses still travel one way north along Gottingen Street to get across the bridge to Dartmouth and one way coming from the bridge south along Barrington Street into downtown Halifax. You’d think for the sake of efficiency they would travel both ways along Barrington, since it’s a more major street with four to 5 lanes unlike Gottingen, since most people on those buses are heading towards Dartmouth (Gottingen Street has its own dedicated bus already, the number 7). I think this is from the time before they had the onramp from Barrington Street onto the MacDonald Bridge and Metro Transit hasn’t bothered to change it yet. Alternatively, from a “social justice” perspective I guess, they could also run busses both ways along Gottingen Street. Alternatively still, this probably isn’t really that big of a deal to be worrying about. I just have a bit too much time on my hands.

  10. Fuck running Dartmouth buses both ways on Gottingen. The street is way too narrow and congested as it is. Personally, I wish Dartmouth bound buses didn’t have to go down Gottingen. I know most drivers hate driving down that street, mostly because of the cars parked on the side of the street making it a pain in the ass to get through.

  11. it should be noted that the street the OP is talking about crossing is 5 lanes of northern barrignton with average speed of 60-70 km, Try crossing that at rush hour. You have to walk something like 15 mins out of the way to get to the other side just by using crosswalks.

But like other have said, live there for a few months and trust me you won’t even be thinking about crosswalk problems.

  12. Outbound/Dartmouth-bound buses use Gottingen St. because the ramp coming from Barrington has tight turns at the top of it and you need to hog the lane next to you if you don’t want to rub along the guard rail. And rush hour sees the ramp clogged solid just like North St. so they might as well use Gottingen.

  13. just steal one of those flags they want to put at crosswalks and wave like a lunatic when you want to get across. it creates an impenetrable, invisible shield around you, didn’t you know? remember though, you have to wave like a lunatic to activate it.
