Ok, I told myself I wasn’t going to bitch about the transit strike… it’s been done and it’s over done. But I am FURIOUS about what went down yesterday with the union employees blocking the snow plows. Ken W can spew all the bullshit he wants about the roads being clear and no one being in danger – I was on the roads yesterday morning and they were bad and my car pool was stuck in traffic for an hour because a car went off the road near the rotary, and I’m just thankful it wasn’t us! I understand if the city grew a pair and had management driving the buses or shuttles and the union blocked those from getting out – but where in the hell do you get off blocking another UNRELATED and ESSENTIAL service that could put people’s lives at risk?!? Kudos you stupid union fucks, because what little public sympathy you had left just disappeared with this dumb ass stunt. I don’t care how long the strike lasts now, I hope the city doesn’t give you one turd nugget more of what you asking for!! I also can’t wait to hear about all the small claims suits against the union for this disgusting disregard for the Halifax public! —Done with Supporting Union Local 508 and You Should Be Too

They should be charged.
Come spring when everyone is happy to be walking around outside these sweet offers will be off the table, they’ll be out of money and the ball will be in the city’s court.. and they’ll wish they’d just sucked it up and accepted a half decent offer when they could. Nature will take care of these Darwin-fails. She always does.
Ken’s next brilliant idea – “Lets block the Firehouses and ER entrance. Only long enough to make a point, of course”
I’m sure that some convoluted interpretation of existing labour legislation could allow for it, right?
If HRM Council has a P.R. firm on contract they can eliminate that from the budget. They don’t need it; they have Ken Wilson to make them look good.
I think wilsons next great idea should be to block someones fist….with his face
we would arrest them but they seem to have 96000 ‘hostages’ at the moment…
and the negotiator isn’t making much progress.

Ken said the whole plow blocking thing was blown way out of proportion. So it’s no big deal, right?
Agreed, no big deal, for the first plow.
The sercond plow is held up for an additional 10 min, and the third, ten more.
Something tells me that they don’t send out plows at 10 minute intervals.
So, if 10 plows are leaving the depot together, the last plow has to wait for over a hour and a half.
That is a big deal.
But hey, the strikers are doing the plow drivers a big favour by getting them all that overtime.
I wonder what Mr. Wilson would say if I blocked his driveway for ten minutes/vehicle?
Ken Wilson took Public Relations in Grade 5. He got an ‘A’ because he was able to correctly spell his name.
just one more straw boys and girls, just one more nail in their coffin too.
The union really isn’t out to get public support at all. I feel bad for those who need the buses but I really think the city needs to take a stand on this one and hold their ground. The union is so unprofessional it makes me sad they they represent these groups and misleads these workforces.
As I’ve supported the Transit Union strike & the workers on this site as well as others sites, I have to say this latest action by the Union Executive to hold up Plows & Salt trucks (The Horrid story today says the Executive told the Strike Captians to let them go if it was snowing) is almost as fucking low as their refusal to take care of the Handicapped citizens in need of the Access-a-Bus. How in the fuck does a strike Captain know if its snowing or icing up on a road where he isn’t ? I experienced sun, rain ,ice pellets & blowing snow on my commute home in less than 30 minutes yesterday & there would be no way the strikers in Burnside could have any knowledge of the conditions out in our spread out city or the number 7, the101,103, 102 etc…all they would be aware of is the weather where they were striking & the Plows & Salt trucks cover a hell of a lot more territory than that. I seen 3 vehicles off the road & in the ditch. If it could be proven by any of those drivers that a plow/Salt truck having gone by a few minutes earlier, would have prevented the accident, then the Union should be held accountable.
THe Bus Drivers do not plow, nor do they Salt the roads.
They have absolutely no right to put the public in danger, & with the wild rain, wind, snow, hail weather of yesterday…that is Exactly what they have done & their actions IMO are bordering on criminal. They not only endangered drivers, they endangered the public who were walking in those conditions
While I support a Unions right to fair wages, & to make a deal with the employer, I do not, & I have never supported that anyone should place others in harms way or by their actions put others in danger & I certaily do not support breaking the law & their actions against the snow clearing workers, if not illegal should be
