Bullying at Capital Health
Reading the article in the Hearld today disgusted me. A housekeeper being bullied by management and nurses. The manager says in the article that she encourages staff to come forward with these issues. Someone does and then a week later starts getting bul

I wonder how many other housekeepers go through the same thing everyday? It’s sad really. And when someone stands up and does something about the way that they are treated they are then punished. I think it is very wrong and was also done in a bullying manner to hold that housekeeper’s pay back. I hope management of that department gets let go and their pay held back !!!!!http://www.herald.ns.ca/Search/565401.html
Wow the article in the herald got to posts in the coast HA. Well hopefully it gets more publicity. Those managers need to be brought down a peg or two obviously. I wish that housekeeper the best of luck and I hope you get your well earned 2 weeks pay they are holding back!!!!
This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of! Who is this supervisor? Where did they get thier managerial skills training, PEE WEES PLAYHOUSE? I have always thought that people working in the hospital have it made but I stand corrected. No job is worth dealing with bullying. I agree with the comments on this that keeping this housekeepers pay is just another way of pushing her around.Management (good ones) are there to deal with situations like this. I understand that the health care system is over worked and under staffed but if you can’t step up and help your workers with something as serious as work place bullying then step the fuck aside and let someone else do the job. It is clear you don’t know how to run a department. Do you even know left from right or up from down you jackass!?!?Give her the money you owe her! I think it is great to see other housekeepers showing their support for this poor girl and if anyone knows the status of how she is doing they should post it so we all know. This is a situation I will be watching and I am sure the media will as well.Best of luck to whoever you are and don’t let them get away with this!

Thanks Tinker,I am so infuriated I can’t even find the right words to express how angry this Housekeeper’s situation makes me.We are GD adults who are suppose to be learning from the mistakes of the past – like Columbine!…hello- bullying is just completely unacceptable, there should be ZERO tollerance at this place for anyhing that even resembles this type of abuse- Management should all be fired, if they had /have even a hint that this is going onhow can we expect children and young adults to not be resorting to violence when SHIT like this is going on in a place of business/healthcare.There can be no satisfactory explanation for me!I truly hope that this article gets sooo much exposure that somebody is forced to be accountable to this housekeeper’s plight.

Jeanne,Send a link to everyone you know so the word gets out. Lets send a message to Capital Health and their managment that this is no ok to allow
I’m already on it lol.I am sending the link to everyone I know. I wish there was more we could do to help!!!!! Here it is again: http://www.herald.ns.ca/Search/565401.html
Attention CEO Chris Powers Email: capitalnews@cdha.nshealth.ca
Maybe the CEO, whose salary is in the range of $280,000 to $350,000 per year can give up her lunch break pay and donate to the housekeeeper’s 2 weeks salary? Thats about 2 days of the housekeeper salary right there.
I just took this link and sent it out to every contact I had. I hope everyone who reads this article wants to see an end to this ridiculous behavior and hold CEO’s/managers/supervisors WAY more accountable!
Mark -I appreciate that email address-However I would have a VERY hard time believing any “politically correct response” I may be given by this person or the organization, I would be VERY interested to hear though if anyone else does send an email, and if they receive any response…
Lookie what I found…ya gotta love the the internet…..CEO of Capital Health:chris.power@cdha.nshealth.ca
Jeanne I do agree that some PR person would shoot off something politically correct if they even do email us back. However things are not going to change if people don’t say anything. This is why bullying takes place…because it happens to people and they don’t say anything about it. This housekeeper may or may not get the money she worked for. But at least the more we contact these people the more they will know that it’s not ok to treat employees like this.
Bullying at work happens in many places but I wish the article had actually provided more details rather than just relaying a story from one perspective (go figure). I’m not saying it didn’t happen but basically we’re only hearing the story from the accuser.Maybe she’s nuts. Maybe she’s overly emotional. Maybe it’s all a ruse to try to get two week’s pay after not following procedures. Not everyone is necessarily “right” because they are low on the totem pole and claim abuse. Sometimes they’re just nuts.
Well Chuck U, to me it sounds like you either have never been bulllied or you have always had a management position. Saying someone is nuts because they stood up for being treated badly? Come on…perhaps YOU are one of the managers that the housekeeper is talking about. The article did mention that her union told her not to give her name…so that probably meant no specifics on the story either. Your comment really bothers me as I have children and would hope that if they were treated as that housekeeper was they would stand up for themselves!!!!!
Chuck U- I am Too a beleiver that there are always different versions of the truth – however- my mother was a CNA at the DG and I know first hand from her about the crap different classes had to suffer just because someone was there to look down at them. Fornunately my mother had tough skin and was able to live through it to her credit. The outrage I feel from this article is 2fold- 1) if this happened – it is crap! and something needs to be done- NOW!2) IF, and I mean IF with emphases! this is an exaggeration in this instance- this is going on and this CEO has acknowledged it and it is UNACCEPTABLE
Well, you’d be wrong on that one.I’ve experienced bullying probably in a far more intense manner than most ever have that ended up getting a twit fired. I’ve also known a guy who used to work at a certain bakery in town who told me about a woman there who regularly cried abuse so much so that males were actually afraid to work around her.So again, let’s hear something beside the complaints of one person.
Gone should be the days when employees suffer silently…We are in the information age -with internet- speak up!we all know that this happens at other businesses, bringing to light a situation like this fires up others who have been silent for too long.We need to look after each other and insure that respect is not a 4 letter word. Communication, Anger management, Contructive critism and more should be seminars forced unto Managers/supervisors and more hot lines for confidential confessions should also be readily available.it all cost money but Staff turnover, sick days do as well and to lose people who move away from the province because their ignorant boss refused to be responsible and RESPECTFUL is costly for us all.
Chuck U,You want to hear the other side of the story! Read the articlt again Chris Power CEO is admiting that Bullying is a major problem within the hospital. She also states “There is whether you like it or not a preceived pecking order here” She also states that they are aware people have left the organzation and that is a failing on thier part.Your damn right it is a failing on their part. They should have done something when this housekeeper complained whether or not she was a nut job. Everyone has the right to work in a place that is safe and stress free. This housekeepr followed the orders put out in the ceo’s memo go to your supervisor and if nothing is done go further! And CHUCK U I am a housekeeper I have worked with this person and I know she was a womderful person and extremly well liked by the housekeeping staff. I have been in housekeeping meetings where they display comments they receive from other workers on the good work we do and her name was mentioned many many times and as a matter of fact after she left crying and quit we had another one of those meetings and what do you know her name was mentioned again. Housekeeping management had to swallow hard for that one!!!!! I do agree with you people do sometimes scream bullying or discrimination a little to easily but this time you are wrong this housekeeper was for sure being bullied as are most of us. I hope the union rips that fucker apart for treating her the way he did and the way he allows his staff to be treated!!!!! Why don’t more of us come forward? Because they will do to us what they did to her.Chuck U are you the housekeeping manager trying to defend his cowardly ways? Just wondering!CAPITAL HEALTH ALLOWS BULLYING!
LOL, no.
Here’s a link that may be useful:http://www.thewomenareangry.org/index.html
That’s a hilarious site. I’m not sure what it really has to do with this case but thanks for the link. I really like the logo.Harper’s not my favourite guy either but I hardly think there’s an “anti-women” conspiracy happening. But, I guess people hate losing funding.
I’m not giving up on this. I will be following this story until the very end. I am going to keep sending emails to the CEO and whatever other capital health email addresses I can find. This is not over people.
