Unbelievable rent increases in this city in the last two years. I don’t really understand why or how a tiny shit hole mold basement could be rented for more than $700 (NOT EVEN INCLUDING UTILITIES), but lo and behold, shit hole basements are more expensive than two bedroom flats with a patio only a mere two years ago (the last time I was apartment hunting). Really unbelievable. And what’s with all these fucking $1,500 a month condos everywhere? WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT? I wish council would do something about rental caps. But they can’t even get lines painted on the road let alone do something that actually benefits people. Seems like there are a lot of empty “luxury suites” around town. Landlords are greedy dicks and the rent in this city is officially fucked. —Drop The Price Already

i’m not looking but know others who are. it’s nutty, the boy pays less for his place in toronto. maybe i’ll put up a yurt in the backyard and rent it out^^
Rents and everything will be going up, way up (cue, friendly giant music) to cover the convention centre the council voted for. Rusty would be pissed.
i live on larry uteck and have a “cheap” apartment at 1250 a month. The thing is they arent empty. There are new buildings going up constantly for 15 16 17 1800 a month and they are renting before they are even built its pretty disgusting
and it will get worse because of this convention center stupidity as well as our awful ships start here deal that the only thing we will see from it as residents is higher food rent housing and fuel prices. Oh ya and taxes
hence living in crackden-skeezeville.
rent stays cheap cause the places look like shit-holes.
‘course… that’s cause they ARE shit-holes.
spacious shit-holes though, at least.
I don’t get the luxury apartment/condo craze here either… all the places are starting 350k and all the jobs here are paid in pennies.
Who are buying all these swanky new places?
all I can figure is it’s a bitch load of retirees…
what with hospitals being crushed and under-funded.
Just wanted to say I’ve got a large 3 Bedroom apartment for an extremely reasonable price, available for September. Super clean, no dogs.
It’s honestly the best value to be found in the Windsor Street area. Please contact for viewing.
A few years ago condo. buyers in Vancouver were screwed over.Spent way too much for a condo that came with mold growing on their walls, some home owners insurance wouldn’t cover to remove, not to mention ripped off by the builder’s and city.
A fucking $.5 million 2 bedroom apartment in Vancouver.
A beautiful place though.
I’m all for signing up for Abrahams land deal – it’s probably in eyebrowville, with a mid-eastern view.
It IS retirees, zed. The big thing now is baby boomers are selling their houses and moving into rentals. And those people who’ve worked decent jobs for 40 years and built equity in houses don’t want to rent shitholes — they want places like those being built on larry uteck or regency park area.
My parents did just that. They made a buttload on their house, dad retired, mom had a job making double what she made in the valley and now those mofos are livin it up (mind you, 4 years ago they locked in a luxury 3 bed place place for $1025 in a great location that I had a lease on from 2007).
With six payments left on the shack here in Hillybilly Hollow, you couldn’t pay me to move to one of those fucking overpriced cement boxes. Not when I can pick up the beer bottles in the ditch and make enough to buy a eight pack.
Three more walls and I’ll have a beer yurt made out of popsicle sticks, Painey.
Don’t worry, experts said that the housing bubble in Canada was going to burst 5-7 years after the American market. The CMHC said a year ago that the new homeowners, who bought within the last 5 years are paying ona mortgage that is inflated by 20,000 dollars (on average). The American bubble burst in 2008, do the math. Why do you think Harper just made the mortgage rules more strict? (one of two things I agree with him doing. That and saying no to a Greek bailout.)
OP, sorry about your woes
hopefully someday you can buy a place….
In less than 3 weeks I’ll be mortgage free !
Congrats, TTFN and More-on!
Unfortunately, my dad’s health meant he couldn’t keep up with the maintenance (especially on a 200 year old house), and they’re happier with a maintenance-free lifestyle and a lot of BBers want that. Almost all my mom’s extended family have or are doing the same.
I miss my house (it was gorgeous), but it’s not so bad here.
PS: any apartment can be made to look pretty — even shitty ones in stabbyville. You just need some imagination.
i have many payments to go, but i promised the boy it would be paid off before we croak. thank goodness for life insurance…stares at the bear^^
Well my rent not bad. Includes all utilities and stackable washer and dryer. Also got nice small yard on windmill road. Not the nicest area. Not the worst. Problem is my landlord has breached our lease so many times and hasn’t’ seem to fix problems with our unit. As he owns a construction company which is also right next building beside this house. My walls are separating from the floors in my living room. Three sets of wiring going into our electrical panel. Walls separating and center of house sags. Told him on different ocasions but after almost two years in still not fixed. But what you suppose to do. Can’t afford the rent they want out there. It funny cuz he only bought the building for the parking lot that goes with this house.utilities from both buildings are linked together so it a right off for him comes tax time. Not a bit of insulation in the whole house except in attic.. it amazes me what they can get away with. It.really does.
Places are cheaper in the valley if you don’t mind the commute.
trodon – you didn’t complete the sentence…..if you don’t mind the commute or living next to the Golers.
Susan Dillman…your current living situation sounds like a death trap. 3 sets of wires into your electrical panel? No insulation? Walls separating from sagging floors? And your landlord hasn’t done anything in 2 years of complaining??! Did you sign a lease? Good deal on rent or not, I’d be on the horn to the residential tenancy board tout suite. What your landlord, (slumlord) is doing is not only dangerous, it’s illegal and if, God forbid, something were to happen to you, your family or anyone else on the premises as a result of his lack of due attention/care, then he would be held responsible. I’d be documenting everything and bringing it right to the board. That’s insane.
For all the big expensive houses that are being sold here people that are form here arent buying them. Were looking right now (looking in mount uniacke gotta get out of hrms taxes) and the mortgage broker at the bank said she agreed, noone from halifax can afford these 600 thousand dollar 3 bedrooms that are being sold. People are moving over from asia and the middle east and buying them up. And paying cash. I walked through the area on my walk last night and its true, its not racial profiling, every single owner i saw was asian.
LOLLZ, B. Bad.
It’s always a fun time in New Minas on the weekends — that’s when they scurry down from the mountain and stock up on essentials like big 8 pop, smokes and a couple 2-4s. And don’t forget the Coachman chicken wieners and cheap bread to wrap them in for the kiddies.
And the smell is just delightful
*vomit*
Lol hey some of us liked the new minas big 8 pop. New minas was the bomb when the only competition to zellers was the other zellers in the other mall :p
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAA that was *awesome* times.
I just wish I got the tradesman wing recipe before it was no more…
I could have drank their sauces from a bottle.
Getting the self entitled communists of this city out of the goddamn way; when private developers who are using their own capital and assuming all of the risk want to build new apartment buildings; will surely help.
You are experiencing supply and demand, in a city where you can’t building a fucking apartment building anymore unless it is under 4 stories and therefore unprofitable so they have to jack up rents. In other words, thank Joe Blow and friends.
I make a great match for their sauces, zed.
And despite the fact that I’m currently writing a cook book, there are a few things I refuse to share. 😉
I hope another is ‘that funny period story that one time’…
you can keep that under wraps too.
Eh?
What the fuck are you nattering on about?
You might want to consider laying off the booze a bit, mr emo pants.

NEVER!
you can’t make me…

Y’all can come to the Darkside. Some areas are pretty reasonable and the rents are still on the cheap side of things (compared to HRM itself, that is).
Maes is lying. He just wants you to move to Dartmouth so it’s easier for him to steal your belongings if you have everything in boxes.
