You know what? I’m a Boston Bruins fan. And I love my team, so sometimes I like to wear my team’s jersey and hat. And I know that most people around here are Leafs or Habs fans. But, I’m sick of being yelled at, told my team sucks, even cursed at! You know what, the Bruins are actually winning something, not like the Leafs, who haven’t been a Cup winner since the Beatles were still together, or the Habs, who haven’t won since before the internet was invented! It’s a free country, and I can pretty much cheer for who I want to. Don’t blame me if your team can’t win. —Beantown4Life

  1. Good for you, mate. If you think about it, Maritimers have far more in common, historically and culturally, with New England than we will ever have with Montreal or Toronto. Support who you want to.
And Boston, thanks for the aid after the explosion. Never Forgotten!

  2. That’s the way it is for every sport. People like to give fans of other teams a hard time just for fun, don’t take it personal. Trust me I’m a Leafs fan, I have a lot of experience with brushing jokes off. But think about it, why are you proud of them? You didn’t help them win the cup back in 2011 or any of their other cups for that matter. If the Leafs ever won the cup (yes, there is a slight possibility, one of the 30 teams has to win it, right?), I would be happy, but proud? not so much. I am only proud of my own accomplishments or those of my family and friends.

  3. Ahhh yes the dirty dirty bruins, and their dirriest player the guy who I am ashamed to say come from HRM… You’re a real winner OP a real winner! GO HAWKS GO!

  4. you’re obviously in the company of the wrong people.

MY people don’t have that much time on their hands. And have MUCH better ways of maximizing the time they DO have.

Of course, considering my crazy stalker ex is from Boston, I’ll have to kick your ass. 😉

  5. I personally make it a point to cheer for whomever fan I’m with’s opposing team.
Hockey fans want conflict and prattling off at the mouth about people they’ve never met who make millions of dollars to do a meaningless job…
I’ll bring it straight to them.
    Go indiscriminate opposing team, GO!

  6. A) here are easily as many Bruins fans here as there are Leafs and Habs fans. B) It’s just fan rivaly trash talkin’. Lighten up.

  7. I’m a Hawks fan forever but I have nothing against the Bruins, they have a terrific team, the little snot of hate from here I could do without but that is only one player, Hawks have Bolland. I don’t really care what people say about my team, I have seen them great and terrible but still stick with them
. At the end of the day it is just a game that I have no control over. Chill OB and just enjoy the game and your team.

  8. Oh fuck off with your delicate over sensitive ass, OB. It you can’t take a bit of ribbing about a sports team without crying like a fucking little bitch, you must have one big stick up your arse.

  9. since my boy’s and bear’s teams aren’t in the playoffs i’m rooting for boston. i like baseball and nobody watches that

  10. I don’t get sports fans. I think the idea of having a “favorite sports team” is utterly ridiculous. I would be embarrassed to have such a fierce loyalty to a bunch of spoiled rotten athletes. I bet you’re one of those hypocrite fucks that wanted to “boycott” the rest of the season, cause the NHL spent most of the season on strike.

  11. I’m married to a guy who absolutely hates sports – for 30 years, I have been blessed. I have a very low tolerance for the ‘woof! woof! woof!’ testosterone mentality of a dedicated hockey fan.

  12. I did time as a sports widow in my younger years so I swore I would never go out with another sports fanatic.

…Steve you did admit your not married, didn’t you? Lol…lol

  13. Nah Harps, I get sports fans. I just don’t get sports fans that are all like “You’re making fun of me for supporting team x??? This is unheard of!”

    Come on..

  14. I mean op.. here’s the thing. You’ve opted to play a game. You can’t bitch about the rules.

Fuck, i’m a DETROIT FUCKING PISTONS fan. Imagine the shit i deal with on a regular basis. Or.. would if people around here were into basketball.

  15. Thing is I don’t associate the city of Boston with bears. The Boston Terriers or Baked Beans would have been better nicknames. Bears are a symbol of strength and power so it works that way but Boston is a maritime city and, save the salmon fishing Kodiacs of the northwest, bears don’t really fit that scene. but I digress.

  16. Don’t know what parts of Halifax you’ve been to, but Bruins are a solid third place in amount of fans. You certainly aren’t alone in Halifax. And it’s stupid for people to hate you for being a Bruins fan. I’m sorry if some immature Habs fan was talking shit.

  17. ON THE PSYCHOLOGY OF THE SPORT”S FAN

There can be little doubt that the sport’s fan, assuming he is over the age of fifteen, constitutes the full-blown embodiment of the contemporary cretin? His identity is invested in a team, if you can imagine. He is without reflection, without thought. One wonders in what sort of daze he lives in when he is not bellowing out his jeers and imprecations at the arena.

When one briefly glances at a hockey game one notices the fat, blank faces of the sport’s fan. Often he has the name of some player on the jersey of his favourite team which he proudly sports. Can there be any surer sign of his submerged identity, of the absence of any thought? Frequently he wears a cap sporting the team logo, often with the bill at the back of his head. It is as if he is proudly proclaiming, “Look at me, I’m an idiot!”

And, of course, he is right. It is difficult to write about the psychology of the sport’s fan because, well, there is nothing to write about. The proper approach would consist of an analysis of the degrees of subnormal intelligence – the idiot, the moron, the cretin and all that – but no, I’m not going there. I’m afraid it might be catching.

  18. You wear it for attention OP. Just like all the young girls dressing slutty. They, like you, are attention whores. If I died my hair green then I really couldn’t blame others for looking. My husband would probably divorce me as well.

  19. “At an elegant dinner party, Lady Astor once leaned across the table to remark, “If you were my husband, Winston, I’d poison your coffee.”
“And if you were my wife, I’d beat the shit out of you,” came Churchill’s unhesitating retort.”

  20. Well PunkyToadHoisty I don’t know what you’re trying to get at, but if its exposing someones personal informtation then the moderator and police will be getting involved.

There are cyberbullying experts that will find your IP and you will suffer the consequences. But honey, thats only if that persons husband doesn’t find you first you coward.

    : Ivan is “T” (06/20, 12:41PM)

I believe that Lady Astor said, ‘If you were my husband, I’d poison you,’ and Churchill’s reply was, ‘And I’d take it’ and not, as you mistakenly claim, ‘I’d beat the shit out of you.’ I mention this since the vast majority of readers on this site, particularly nonentities like Benny, will have no idea what Churchill ever said at any time or for that matter, even who he was. One must remember the limitations of one’s audience, Ivan.

Secondly, I see you are having difficulties with your quotation marks. In North America internal quotations (see above) take only one apostrophe while the entire quotation takes two. However, the English style puts the entire quotation in one apostrophe only and the internal quotation in two. I hope that this will not be too difficult to grasp for the majority of readers on this site, particularly Benny, the buffoon.

I have made other corrections to your post on “It’s getting warm out” and will not repeat them here except to point out once again that I make no apologies for refusing your poorly researched, inaccurate, and superficial, ungrammatical and just plain stupid manuscript for inclusion in my “Great Statesmen of Europe.” I might add, however, that it gave all of us at the Whippet Press a good belly laugh.

    : blip blip – What’s up? (2:34PM)

Hmm, exposing someone’s personal information, you say. Did you have anyone particular in mind? May I be of assistance? Should I contact the moderator now do you think?

  22. Thanks MM, its very comforting to know there’s at least one civil adult on here. I think I’ve got the bully in check, and I’m sure its the toad again.

I already reported this to the moderator but after they get banned, they just keep making more profiles.

Thanks again for your interest though. I think I’ll call it a day now because these comments are degrading rapidly (Except yours of course;) and I really can’t let these bullies get under my skin again.

  23. y our pillow talk is H A W T .will you touch yourself when you r husband and i wrestle on the floor in the r umpus room ?

  24. “I already reported this to the moderator but after they get banned, they just keep making more profiles.”

Isn’t that simply rich coming from you, blipblip, you big bogus crybaby? My husband sees all and calls you a liar and a bully. How dare you enter the church of my father-in-law with your horrible attitude and nasty remarks? And the lies. You have no husband, you have a three legged wharf rat you befriended on the docks last year. Your children are the rat’s offspring, Louie, Dewie and Screwie.

You have also crossed the line naming a former poster on this board and ridiculing her. How Christian is that, blipblip? Don’t you dare use your vile hate in the name of the Holy Roman Catholic church! A plague of locusts should be infesting that blonde nest on your head by noontime.

  25. ^^^^I don’t believe your ramblings for a minute. You are also very much confused honey. Ms PunkyToad has been using someone’s beautiful name and plastering it all over numerous threads. I have simply defended myself and stated I do not condone their actions.

My husband and I are of the Christian faith, we the true believers. We do not associate or support the RC’s or the Zions. Such bogus made up cults is what they are.

I know my plee’s will go untended, but please refrain from mentioning my wonderful children on here. That crosses a very big moral line and you should all be ashamed of yourselves for that, and trying to threaten me.

  26. God damn it! this post is about a Bruins fan getting taunted. Not about Jesus, Roman Catholics, Christians, Winston Churchill, wet boombooms, green hair, etc etc etc.

Good Lord some people have a short attention span! Or if the topic is not about them they will try to sway the comments to be all about them (Wogdog).

  27. I couldn’t agree more Keg. Its good to see another person acting like an adult on here, MM too ;). I kept my comments on topic but was quickly insulted and put down over my beliefs. So, well said Keg, this place needs more commentors like you.

But, who is wogdog? I reread the thread and no one has that avatar. Was that Punky’s old name? Because she was TTFN and now TT Fonebone so she has a history of multiple profiles. Gosh, what a loser eh. Some of these people just have nothing better to do with themselves.

  28. I guess for some life comes down to making cookies and fake profiles to troll total strangers with. Some people really need a hobby, OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE AND AWAY FROM THE KEYBOARD!!!!

  29. ‘In December of 1941, folowing the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Winston Churchill visted Washington D.C. for the series of Arcadia Conferences with President Roosevelt. One evening, Harry Hopkins arranged for Churchill to attend a hockey game along with Joseph P. Kennedy, the notoriously anglophobic ambassador to Great Britain. Kennedy, in an attempt to bait Churchill told him that the Red Wings would “wring the Bruins neck, like a chicken” Churchill took a sip of whiskey, and began to trim one of his Monte Christos. Without even glancing at Kennedy he rumbled in a jovial tone “Suck it, Shitpipe”‘

To tell the truth, the Churchill quotes up til now have been sampled/plagiarized from a piece that Michael O’Donoghue did for National Lampoon some 30 years ago.
But that last one – Pure Ivan >; )

    : Ivan Shitpipe (06/21, 12:59)

Well – and I’m doing this for Benny (9:38AM) who wouldn’t have clue what Ivan Shitpipe is talking about – the correct version refers to Churchill’s response to Hitler’s claim that he, Hitler, would wring England’s neck “like a chicken.” Speaking in the US at the time, Churchill said, “Some neck… some chicken!” While Shitpipe – hey, I’m beginning to like that – is still having difficulties with his quotation marks – ‘Suck it, Shitpipe'” should be in single quotation marks and, since it ends the paragraph, closed with doubles as shown, I was pleased about the correct placement of “ed.” but the title “Great Statesmen of Europe” should be enclosed in double quotation marks and, quel horreur, the name of the author should NOT be repeated AFTER the title. I have just finished reading Andrew Nagorski’s “Hitlerland: American Eyewitnesses to the Nazi Rise to Power” (Simon & Schuster, N.Y., 2012) – note the correct punctuation – in which the Gestapo use of the genital vise is mentioned. I wonder, in view of Shitpipe’s revealing my identity, if the moderator has something along those lines in which she might slowly and painfully crush Shitpipe’s balls.

  34. More Stalagporn from La Trine?

I enjoyed Nagorski (and no, I’m not going to explain “why”. You’ll just have to assume that the pleasing shape of the font triggered a rush of serotonin to the limbic neo-cortex of my underclass brain)

Ontological inquiry. How can I be guilty of revealing that which is common knowledge? It’s sort of like Julian Assmange leaking “The Kardashians are plasticine publicity whores” or Edward Snowden “revealing” on Reddit that “Montrealman’s excruciating longwinded posts are the sort of thing that inspired generations of Montreal teens to break into the school after hours and spraypaint the hallways with crude depictions of the human love act”

The punishment doth not fit the crime, methinks.

  35. There is only one faith, blipblipboomywog, and that is the Holy Catholic Church. Read the Apostle’s Creed, you silly woman. No ifs, ands or buts, lady, you’re dissing my Sacred F-In-Law big time with your old time buckboard evangelism. My Blessed Hubbers figures you’re suffered enough as a lonely, cross-eyed divorcee with pet wharf rats for children although He thinks dressing them up in little tartan outfits with matching tams is a bit much.

I disagreed with my Beloved J-man as your hateful, bullying and condescending attitude reveals that you are truly Satan’s Catcher’s Mitt.

    Only three points:

    (1) “Ontological inquiry. How can one be guilty of revealing that which is common knowledge?”

Sadly, in spite of my continued instruction regarding the categories of philosophical reflection, Shitpipe has once again failed to distinguish the ontological from the epistemological. Look at the last word in the quotation. What is it? That’s right, “knowledge” which, of course, is the province of EPISTEMOLOGY and NOT ontology which, rightly conceived, inquires into the NATURE OF REALITY. Truly, a philosophical solecism of the first magnitude.

    (2) Shitpipe claims that it is common knowledge that the Gestapo employed the genital vice on its victims. I wonder. While Shitpipe’s focus, as always, is on the nether regions, others are not so obsessed and so the existence of the genital vice might have come as a surprise. I have been thinking about the genital vice. I see it as part of chair into which the moderator will strap Shitpipe who, of course, is naked. The seat of the chair is open, similar to that of an infants training chair so Shitpipe’s balls will then drop down through the hole. Then the vise in brought into play. I suppose a regular vise might do but there is the chance that Shitpipe’s balls might squeeze out either end, depending on the size of Shitpipe’s scrotum which, I suspect, is considerable. This would require a different design of the vise so as to contain Shitpipe’s testicular spread. However, I have yet to envisage just how this would look. I shall work on it.

    (3) “You’ll just have to assume that the pleasing shape of the font triggered a rush of seratonin to the limbic neo-cortex of my underclass brain”) (sic)

Come on Shitpipe, finish the story. Everyone knows why it was “pleasing” – and no, I’m not going to explain why, you bloody onanist.

    A pleasure as always.

    Cheerio!

  37. Others might be unnerved, or even repelled by your scrotal fixation. I find it flattering because I know that you’re just attempting to get blipwogs crusty muffin all engorged and tingly. Hateth the enterprise; not the virtuoso.
If you enjoyed “Hiterland”, I might recommend “In The Garden of Beasts” – Erik Larson. It covers the same period but focuses on Ambassador Dodd and his family. His daughter was quite the little minx , I must say. Now there’s an appropriate fixation for your contributions to the canon of Historotica.

  38. To clarify: there no record of a TTFN on this site, dripdrip, I mean blipblip, so your wittering and whining about an non-existent profile is very strange. T.T. Fonebone is a long time lurker and a relatively new poster with no time for bogus profiles unlike yourself, not with a beautiful summer day beckoning outside. This delusional and paranoia behavior of yours is really quite disturbing. Perhaps you need an exorcism. Or a good cola and Mentos enema.

My interest in your scrotum was not the result of any “scrotal fixation” as you suggest but rather an attempt to work out the technical details involved in designing a genital vise which would contain your repulsive ball sack so that maximum pain might be inflicted. (I hope the moderator is thinking along similar lines.) Further and consonant with your obvious philosophical limitations as evidenced by your failure to distinguish ontology from epistemology, I now find a failure of logic – even incoherence – in your claim that my “scrotal fixation” is an attempt to get “blipwog’s” crusty muffin all engorged and tingly. I trust that you do see that there is no necessary – not even a contingent cause-effect relationship – between the two. But, as with ontology and epistemology, I suspect you are not able to distinguish between necessary and contingent causal relationships. Further still, you must remember that “Hitlerland” was only casual reading for me and not my usual cerebral philosophical fare. I’m afraid my interest does not extend to Martha Dodd’s adventures under the covers with the Nazis and then under the covers with the Soviets. The fact that she gave her vagina a real workout would, no doubt, be something which might appeal to your plebian and sordid tastes.

  40. MM – our epistemological sparring can in no way disguise the fact that you look upon me as the son you never had.
And I’m flattered. I truly am.

  41. Ivan, I must confess that your exchange with MM has left me in cross stitches. Especially the reference (and brilliant tribute) to the late great Michael O’Donoghue. National Lampoon was my bible and Michael to my Jesus back in the 1970s. I bow to your genius.

“Epistemological sparring”? My God man, I see you are still unclear on the concept. What we have here is a matter of ontology (“ontos” in Greek), one relating to the dimensional reality of your disgusting ball sack and the consequent testicular spread. Contingent upon a determination of its ontological status we can then move to the technological question (“techne” in Greek) which relates to the design of the appropriate genital vice. Nowhere – I hope you can see it now – does epistemology enter the picture.

I was, however, deeply touched by your show of filial devotion but, lacking those inclinations which you clearly possess, I will never say, “Come to Daddy.”

  45. Freaking Eh, Ivan!

Gahan Wilson and John Callahan (who also was the inspiration for the short-lived animated series ‘Quads’ back in the 90s) were my favourite cartoon contributors. Can you imagine how that stuff would be viewed now in a world starched by political correctness?

  46. Subversive as fuck and the beauty of it is, in their hands, subversion was a blade that cut both ways. I encountered ‘poon around the same time as Python, in my early teens, and I maybe understood 1/4 of it, if that. But it definitely had an effect upon my twisted mind and blackened soul. What an awesome look back.

  47. I was in uni when I discovered ‘poon (courtesy of my big bro) – there was one cartoon I distinctly remember – a portrait of the last supper – while Judas is stuffing silverware in his cloak, Jesus sits in the middle with a dumbfounded look on his face, holding the bill – I showed this to kidlink about a year ago – she printed off a copy from the net, posting it proudly in her apartment, next to the agonizing bust of Christ with a cigarette hanging off his lower lip that one of her room mates kindly provided. I love my kid.

  48. We raised good little subversives, haven’t we, Painey? First lesson the kid learned: ‘Question Everything’.
