I work overnights near West and Agricola. Every night there are cats (with collars!) wandering around yowling to be let in. In particular I see a black one and a very small brown/white one almost every night. It is the middle of November, people. It gets cold out at night. What the hell is wrong with you. —Can’t believe I have to explain this

  1. do you know the owners of these cats in particular? maybe they call their cats several times a night to coax them back inside for the night… cant wait all night for a feline to decide its time to make its way back in…

  2. they could very well be abandoned cats. the people kindly left them their collars but buggered off and left them. so they are out there cold, hungry and yowling because they have no idea why they can’t go inside where it’s warm.

if they still had people loving them, they would hear the yowling and would let them in. if you can hear, they could hear it.

  3. Working overnight in the West/Agricola area are crack ho’s ….. are these the pussies of which you speak?

  4. Good thing they’re not in my neck of the woods….heard too many neighbors cats getting mauled by racons and coyotes…tears my heart apart knowing some kid will never see their beloved pet again, all because parents wouldn’t ensure pets came in at night.

  5. A SHARPLY DRESSED MAN

Did you happen to knock on the neighborhood doors to see who owned the cats? Did anyone who was sharply dressed answer any door? My guess is that he’s the culprit in this drama.

You might have entered the premises and searched for some purple carrots. It will be the same guy. Good luck.

    A pleasure as always.

    Cheerio!

  6. op if it makes you feel any better at all, when i see them wandering my neighbourhood, I bring them in for the night. I have a warm, semi-finished basement where they get a meal, some attention (if they want it) and lots of water. I have two cats upstairs, otherwise i’d just let them in the house and release them the next day.

I know it’s not much but it’s something.

And if it makes you feel even better, everyone in my neighbourhood, on my street. does the exact same thing.

    It’s a start, right?

Anyone who can, i urge you to take in a stray or lost pet. Quarantine them and give them some love and kindness.

    Seriously.

  7. Also, lots of these pets are not ignored but LOST. They have wandered a few blocks away and the owners are looking for them. OTHER strays will chase them out of the neighbourhood and it makes it hard for them to return home.

If you see a pet who may be lost, go to the facebook group “Adoptions, Fostering and Advice” and post an alert. Do the same on kijiji and try to restrain the animal and find the family the pet lives with.

My Turnip got out once for two weeks back in 2008. Mind you, it was in the summer. But not all wandering pets are neglected. A stray next door chased her away and thanks to the wonderful efforts of the neighbouring folks and lots of signs on poles, she was found, safe and sound, under my neighbour’s porch.
