I watch my fair share of television shows that are my guilty pleasures. It never hurt anyone to watch Ace of Cakes or a little bit of Cougar Town. However, I can honestly say that I have never been so offended as I was by a television show I happened upon one day entitled “Bridal Plasty”. The show is a reality format in which a group of brides-to-be compete against each other for the prize of the cost of their wedding and various plastic surgeries. Each episode includes different challenges with the prize being the plastic surgery of their choice. When I turned on my television I was faced with two women waiting to see who would go to the final. The other finalist had already been chosen. Both women sat with bandages across their faces from recent rhinoplasty procedures, waiting to see if they would be able to receive the rest of the procedures on their “plastic surgery wish lists.” This show reinforces gender stereotypes that women need to look a certain way in order to be happy and successful in life. Like The Apprentice or The Weakest Link, where elimination is accompanied by, “you’re fired!” or “you are the weakest link, goodbye,” in Bridal Plasty, the host humiliates the loser by declaring, “Your wedding will still go on, it just won’t be perfect.” This leaves the viewer with the ridiculous final message that the only way a perfect wedding is achieved is through thousands of dollars of plastic surgery and wedding decorations. —M.A.K.

Well Winston, all I can say is, it’s a good thing that tele-screen in your living room comes with an off button.

This is most definitely a new low of the low for TV, I think. So disgusting and discouraging that it’s happening. Sigh. I try to watch as little TV as possible.
I wish someone would fucking blowtorch the vacuous horseshit that are reality shows. Fucking hatehatehate them all.
TTFN…the only one I ever saw was a few minutes of that ‘survivor’ show.
My ex was a fan of it & when I came home from working away, we had to be home in time to see it the night it was on.
I was watching it with her…supposedly only these several morons trying to out cut throat each other (great sportsmanship there )
Then suddenly , I see a boom shadow.
I then find out there is a professional team of sound & videographers recording the whole thing. That’s when it hit me this is just bullshit even worse than soap opera’s.
I haven’t seen any of them since, from your obvious dislike/distain TTFN…I haven’t missed anything by not seeing these ‘shows’.
They all give me more reason to lose my faith in humanity.

Yep, those so-called ‘reality’ shows are scripted and edited right down to the wire. If it were truly a reality show without these drama enhancers, it would be as interesting as watching a security guard pick at his head holes.
You just know the barrel bottom has been reached when the latest reality show is “Check my Colonoscopy”
The only “reality show” I even like is IRT:Deadliest Roads. Those Indians (Asian) are fucking crazy drivers with shitty roads.
I hate this show with a passion. Bitches be crazy … as always.
Hope they chose the camel-toe corrective plastic surgery. Afterall, summer’s coming and no need for the camel.
o.p., most of that shit that passes as entertainment, comes from south of our borders. while the vast majority of people watching this crap are brain dead morons, one or tw good shows do emerge. only to be cancelled, and replaced by more mindless drivel of the same shit that is on there.
like the old bullshit baloney cosby show, and the others of that ilk, the market gets flooded with this inane shit. and canadians, as placid as they are, fall under the influence of the rest who watch, believing they are good, when far from it is true.
you have the choice f turning to another channel, or turning the shit the hell off. i usually go with the latter, as this keeps me from going what they used to call,”postal”.
What’s frightening is that SNL parodied the current trend of ridiculous shows 30+ years ago.
Yup and “Network” now just seems understated and quaint:

I had a long rant typed out and my session timed out. Consider yourselves lucky. Bottom line these women are willing participants and are just a reflection of the real problems in the real world. Taking shows like this off the air won’t fix anything. It reinforces stereotypes… I hate to say this but stereotypes exist for a reason.
These particular women DO feel that they need to look a certain way to be happy. Stereotypes come from somewhere. There’s plenty of shows on TV that depict the women in them as hard working, responsible, confident, professional women. These “reality” shows you’re referring only exist to get a rise out of people. You helped them accomplish your goal by sitting there saying “this offends me, this is wrong, this enforces negative stereotypes, I don’t like this” You actually went and advertised for them on the internet by submitting this bitch. I’d never heard of this show. Change the chanel, it’s like voting the show off the air.
