Dear Best Friend:
I don’t want to date you, but I don’t want anyone else to date you either.
The thought of you being with someone else is killing me. But if you asked me to date you tomorrow I’d say no.
What is wrong with me?

you’re possessive
Sounds pretty selfish to me. If this person is really your best friend and you don’t want to date him/her, then set the poor fucker free. Get over yourself, sweetcakes.
Sounds like OP is kidding themselves. If they didn’t want to date this person they wouldn’t feel lousy when they attempt to date someone else.
OP should stop lying to themself 😉
Sounds pretty strange to me, dont want em, but dont want someone else to have em either. You need to get yaself a new freind and leave this one well alone if you want ya sanity to remain intact. I tell ya something you would creep me the fuck out if you were any friend of mine…..YIKES!!!
Dr. Phil? Any Thoughts?
“she’s a fuckin idiot, and even Robin agrees, Son”.
HA. I pictured the OP as being male. Not sure why.
Anyway, people tell themselves all kinds of things for all kinds of reasons. Just fuck and get it over with already, OP. FFS it’s obvious you want your “best friend.” Why else would you be jealous of your best friend being happy in a relationship? I have friends of the opposite gender and I’ve never been jealous of them getting into relationships. I’ve been nothing but happy for them (although sometimes I do question their judgement :P), because hey I DON’T want to fuck them.
Just a thought, OP 😉
perhaps, they want the friend to always be available to socialize… as friends tend to be shorter on time when they get a new SigOther.
that’s about the only way I see this person isn’t one loony tune.
I agree with country_girl. possessive.
