I have been reading so many posts about how unfair the Winter Parking Ban is……….Are you people serious???
I would love to see any of you whiners try to Plow a street littered with cars at 2:00am.
It wouldn’t happen.
Then you would be on here whining about what a shitty job HRM does of plowing..
I HAVE LEARNED ALOT ABOUT PEOPLE IN MY LIFE AND THE ONLY THING I SEE THAT MOST HAVE IN COMMON IS.. “NOTHING IS GOOD ENOUGH”.
You all bitch and complain about the taxes you pay but nobody wants to cooperate…Parking on the street during a storm or when the streets need to be cleaned slows things down, that cost money (your money).
As for the Richie Richie peole of our fair city…Come live in the neighbour hood i have to live in…We get the least amout of service if any.

you think this is ‘so many posts’?
you ain’t seen nothing yet… this is only day 3.
two words.. WHAT PLOW?
two more words… WHAT SNOW?
If that’s not cause to bitch I don’t know what is.
Buddy must not live anywhere near a bus route/main thoroughfare.
Send your complaints to your councilor who can actually do something about it. In the years preceding this when parking was banned only when it snowed, people were complete dumbasses and left their cars to be buried. You guys have only yourself to blame for the ban as it is now.
I’m very split on this winter parking ban thing. Kays right, what snow?? Ticketing people on a winter parking ban when its +5 out seems a little silly. But if you don’t these people will probably still park there when it does snow because they think they won’t get ticketed. I don’t drive and even if I did, I have a place to park but I know how annoying it is for a street not to get plowed because of one person who parked on the street.
They gave a ridiculously over priced 50 dollar ticket on a 6 degree night. It’s a slap in the face from this joke city.
Besides contacting your city official, another way to protest this is everyone who gets a ticket, go to court. Flood the courthouse with people & plead ‘not guilty’. You still have that right. You think for one minute if 50 people on the same street ticketed at the same time all arrive in the same courthouse & refuse to pay their ticket & request jail time, that the resources exist to put you in jail ?
On a different tack…how can we be under a winter parking ban…when it isn’t officially winter yet ?
The ban isn’t a ‘tax grab’ it’s a punishment measure by the city to teach the twats who park their shitmobiles on the street in the winter a lesson so they’ll park them elsewhere so ploughs can get through.
Look at it like this: it might not be snowing when you go to bed, for instance, but at 2am it COULD start snowing and you wouldn’t have a sweet clue because you’re sleeping. So, it snows, the plough doesn’t get through and the city gets angry calls from the same twats who parked their cars on the street complaining about the lack of ploughed roads.
The $50 is just HRM’s way of getting people to get their cars off the street all the time in case we get a storm at night when you’re cluelessly sleeping. We never really do know for certain that it’s not going to snow during the night until that night’s over, and the 50 bucks is a nice incentive to go park somewhere else.
I know most of you ban-bitchers won’t get actual reason and logic, but if you concentrate REALLY hard with your pea-sized brains, I’m sure you MIGHT be able to understand some of what I”m proposing here.
I just checked out the parking ban FAQ’s on HRM’s website and it seems clear to me that the questions are the common complaints (many of which have appeared on LTWWB) and the answers reflect how the parking ban deals with the other complaints they receive when streets are not properly cleared because of parked cars. There’s no winning for the city.

Go Pretty Kitty!
You beat me to almost everything I wanted to say…
And BTW, to those of you bitching about how we “never get any snow anyway” – do you REMEMBER the last 2 winters AT ALL? The snowstorm in December 2007 where people were running out of gas on the bridge because the traffic was so bad due to the volume of snow and horrible visibility?
I remember last year when I opted to take Transhit rather than shovel the car-high pile of snow left at the end of my driveway by the plough…
So maybe we don’t get snow every day, but when we do, we need to be prepared for it…
Completely. I agree. These people are willing to pay out big bucks to live in South End and other prime locations, and yet they can’t afford a $50+ ticket? Come on. Get your BMW and Audi off the street.
Poster MORE I agree 100% thats a perfect idea totally perfect !!!! And make sure you refuse the “fine option ” and take the time too !!! Now thats mass protest in it’s finest form !!!!!!
PRetty Kitty I put my pea size brain to the problem…I don’t see what my getting off work at 1:30 to 2:30 am has to do with going to bed & sleeping & not moving my truck !
Once I get off work I’m going to remove my truck & myself not just from Halifax streets….but right out of Halifax altogether ! Like 60 KMs away from downtown !
Also miss kitty I definately know if it starts snowing !
We have the loading bay doors open & we can see & feel exactly what’s going on outside !
None of us are in bed…but we will be once we finish. You get enough techs to the point they will not work past 1am, so a show can’t get loaded out. Production companies will stop bringing shows to Halifax ! they need skilled crew, we don’t make enough an hour to pay ridiculous tickets when we’re not the problem, but we’re ticketed as if we are !
The whole idea of giving someone a ticket on a plus 5 degree night for blocking ‘snow removal equipment ‘ is asinine.
PK: 99.9% of the time, the chance of a snowfall significant enough to require plows is included in the weather forecast issued before people go to bed. Issuing tickets for parking on the street when it’s supposed to snow is fine (whether it does or not). When it’s plus 6 or whatever and tickets are still handed out, ridiculous. Ban or not, people are still parking on the street so why not tinker the ban so it makes more sense? Oh I know, tax grab.
More: I saw this on the paper copy of the Coast yesterday, and it’s here as well:

Commercial vehicles loading and unloading are exempt from the ban. Stick a company name on the windshield dash and you should be fine.
Plastic Driver Guy…
Have you ever read the reviews of our so called City Counsil.
Well the moron in my area got a D-
Not much help there.
And to the guy who says I must not live on a Bus route or near a Main Street…WRONG I live on a bus route near a Major Street….KISS MY ASS
Nomatter some people just can’t get through the day without Bitching about something.
IF YOUR NOT PART OF THE SOLUTION THEN YOUR PART OF THE PROBLEM…..FIND A PLACE TO PARK AND SHUT-UP
