Last year the MacKay bridge had big-ass electronic signs installed on roads leading towards the bridge, supposedly to warn drivers of problems in advance of getting onto the bridge approaches. A couple of months ago I saw them lit up once for testing. Ever since, nothing. Totally dark. Wassup? I know those things were not cheap to buy. Why is it taking so long to get them working? —In The Dark

They work fine, if there is no closures to let people know about then they are dark. they were well lit up for the mackay bridge in the last few weeks when they closed the bridge for maintenance.
maybe o.p., there was nothing important for anyone to see, therefore, they were dark. if no one is in a room, why have lights on?
They work fine. They use them to advice drivers of maintenance schedules on the bridge.
They don’t like to waste electricity, so they’re not lit up unless necessary.
