  1. Oh well no commons concert for me this summer. Wonder why nothings been announced for Moncton yet?

  2. just so everyone knows, the black eyed peas are only one of the shows on the commons that weekend (july 23/24). there is also apparently a “rock” show to be announced… rumored to be Tom Petty?!

  3. They said on Q104 yesterday that the rock show is going to be Weezer. And also that Classified will be on the same day as BEP.

  4. I’ll be far away from the noise of BEP in Dartmouth when they perform and thankful for it.. Tom Petty, on the other hand, would be glorious! Weezer might have been fun like.. 10 years ago? Rivers has lost all sense of charm since then..

  5. Wow, looks like they’ll be giving the tickets away in droves through the radio stations given that interest in the concert is so low. Thing is, even I don’t want a free ticket to BEP.

  6. There was a post on a Moncton radio station’s forum that mentioned Black-Eyed Peas, Weezer and Classified for one night and Bob Dylan, John Mellencamp and Counting Crows for the other night. This was posted before yesterday’s big announcement…..

  7. I want to see weezer, but I def don’t want to pay a 100+ dollars to see weezer alone and then have to deal with BEP.

  8. nevermind – you’re wrong. The rock show on the 23rd has yet to be announced, the pop show for the 24th is classified, weezer, and BEP. We still have hope. I just checked around, Tom Petty is booked for the 22nd and 24th in the states, so no dice. BUT, Metallica, Aerosmith, Bob Dylan, The Eagles and (if they decide to start touring) Van Halen are all free for that whole week. Fingers crossed for Metallica?? haha 🙂

  9. fuck that.

I’ve never been able to get into metallica. I love the guitar, can’t do the fucking voice.

  10. And considering Eagles just played in Moncton (either last summer or the summer before) I doubt it will be them.

  11. What the hell? I can’t say cunt but this ASS can wish death on every thread and now this crap????
Mod 4.0 you are failing….I see a job opening in the near future!!!!

  12. Some people need to get a life lorilulu. Or psychiatric intervention. Just ignore it and it will eventually tire of it’s sick little idiotic agenda when it gets no response.

  13. He’s probably 14 years old with the dick the size of a thumbtack. Just ignore the little prick, he’ll tire himself out like all imbeciles do.

The moderator of this board should have EMPWY’s IP and punt! Off the board.

  14. Talking about rotten apples, WTF is with this troll, is he so hard up for attention that he writes to himself, just so he can read his own posts? He has to be one of the most desperate and pathetic so far.
But I’d guess him being unwanted is nothing new for this flake.

  15. Maybe it IS the moderator…
after all, when it is finally eliminated, we’ll all be very thankful to her…
    a very clever ploy = p

  16. except the Black Eyes Peas are a fucking awesome band. Catch’m live if you can!

No No No NOoooo don’t funk with ma HEARRRRT! ooM Pa oom oom Pa ooM Pa oom oom

    Rock on, bitches.

  17. What a disappointment this ‘big’ announcement is. My friends and I are waiting for the announcement for the rock concert…nothing in this line-up to get excited about unless one is a fan of pop which this prog-rocker is not. Bring on the rock bands!

  18. just for the record, I’ve been dealing with a lot of shit lately and this ‘dead’ piece of trash isn’t me… though the posting amount looks kinda close.
only a 15 year old with an iphone would have that kinda time…

PS caught the pea’s at the garden as an opening act….
nothing fantastic. they don’t have 200 machines to correct their voices on the fly.

  19. Some people can’t understand why so many are disappointed, well here’s a clue. The event was hyped up as a Rock concert in the papers. And then who do we get as the big act? Only Halifax would book the Black Eyed Peas to headline Halifax “ROCKS” 2010. Furthermore, Weezer is the only legit rock band that was announced. Might as well call it Halifax raps 2010.

It would be nice if instead of teeny pop, rap acts, and over the hill rock, we could get some current rock bands to come here. They cater to the very young and the very old. What about my demographic?

  20. I still hear this show being hyped as a “Rock Concert”…wtf? Does anyone know what Rock music is anymore. First clue…it does NOT involve a pitch corrector.

Weezer would be good in a bar, Classified would be good in a dance club and BEP would be good facedown in shit under a moving bus.

I am saddened to hear Tom Petty may have other engagements as I was holding out hope for him. I will definetely go to the other night if it is any mix of Bob Dylan, Metallica or Counting Crows. I wouldn’t go see John Mellencamp on his own (not that he could fill the commons) but with any of these other bands I think I would enjoy it.

Please Halifax, don’t fail us again by blowing the 23rd ROCK concert announcement.

  21. Woulda been nice if that Clapton/Beck show had made it this far east. Might be nice to see Rush, Santana, U2, David Bowie and the like but we’ll probably end up with something much less. Rumour has it that it might be Mellencamp, who I won tickets to see at Exhibition Stadium in the 80’s. Don’t think I’d pay to see him again…only 3 of his tunes have stood the test of time for me.

  22. I caught them live, and wish I could’ve thrown them back dead.

Fuck concerts here, seriously. I’ll never go to(or at least pay for) one again, save all my money, visit my in-laws in England and blow the cash on going bohemian and seeing both Reading and Leeds Festivals. I’m adding this to my epic life list.

  23. Black eyes peas, isn’t that something used in Southern cookinig, along with grits and hog jowls?

  24. I’d take a fire hydrant up the ass to see the Libertines reunion (Carl Barat and Pete Doherty – be still my aging pump-thumper) but I’d have to sprout wings and fly like a bastard to the U.K. to hear their fucking awesomeness. British Indie rocks hard and long!

  25. Has there ever been a concert on the Common that people didn’t whine about?

It’s so trendy to hate on pop music. I think most people would find the BEPs pretty easy to enjoy if they could get over their inborn prejudice against pop.

Just relax and enjoy music, people.

  26. BEP, aren’t they a studio band ?

You know a band who only sound good when in studio where sound engineers can make two cats screaming in heat… sound like Hallelujah (in Shrek).
I mean with the technologically advanced equipment these days you only have to manage to get the words out & they can fix everything !

  27. Yes, Black Eyed Peas suck ass, and yes “I gotta feelin'” is a shitty song, but it’s catchy and makes me feel better whenever I hear it. Shitty music only pisses me off when it gets awards over good music, but then again I don’t watch boring ass awards shows… so yeah shitty music doesn’t really piss me off…

  28. Seems like an odd match-up…the Peas, hip-hoppists and a rock-alts Weezer. Hardly a rock concert. Wouldn’t mind seeing the Weezers but not if tolerating the Peas is part of the program.

  29. “whaaa, i don’t like THAT, it’s different”

Ah, it all makes sense now. One of the best reasons to hate the East is it’s STUCK in some other era. You don’t get it. You don’t want it. You don’t progress with your closed minds and closed ears.

BEP is one of the most progressive bands on the scene right now. Couple that with Wheezer and you should all be left panting… if you only appreciated what “progressive” sounded like but since all the local bands strive to play BLUES and blues rock or maybe even classic rock but go no further and nary a foot left of center you continue to live in a day that passed many many moons ago.

Learn to listen with new ears, check out the show, GROW UP you fuckin’ babies, then say thank you.

  30. WTF! Easterners only listen to Eastern artists? What a crock of shit!!! But if that thought justifies your stereotypical fantasies and Easterner bashing persona you are entitled to go right on believing it. It’s easier than comprehending and acknowledging that just because others don’t share your musical taste for the Black Eyed Peas they aren’t stuck in the past. Progressive? Hip hop is nothing new. Been around for over 30 years. That’s over 360 moons. Another era really. Black Eyed Peas have been around for at least 180 of those moons so I guess they qualify as a band from some other era too. So very progressive…snicker!

  31. Just because the local pop station plays the BEP’s once in a while does not make “progressive” music “hip-hop”. You’re leaking from the side of your head AGAIN, victim.

  32. Yes, there’s a blues scene in Nova Scotia. It is only one small genre of a thriving musical scene. There is also a very well established rock scene here and always has been. The same for other genres of music. Why, we even have our own awards event celebrating the many genres of music created by East Coast musicians!

I like music of all genres including ‘progressive’ hip hop. I just don’t happen to like the Peas. I don’t have a problem accepting that other people do. I don’t launch personal attacks at them for their preference and don’t understand your need to slag people because they don’t share your opinion. Opinions are like anuses, we all have them and yours don’t smell any better than anyone else’s.

Your strange, warped opinions of the Nova Scotia music scene might suit your Nova Scotia bashing agenda but really have no basis in reality, as everyone here knows. Anyone who is actually aware of the history of the Nova Scotia music scene can see who is the one making a fool of themselves here by displaying their ignorance, and it is not I. And by the way, I am not your, or anyone elses victim just because you say so. You MO of offering insults just because of differing opinions is just like you, getting a little old dear. What’s up with that anyway? What is your motivation?

  33. In the words of a very well known Nova Scotia musician who is also NOT a blues artist:

“A fool like you is a freak to me, it’s unique to me, what you seek to see.”

  34. Ignorance strikes again! The classification of muscal genre is NOT personal opinion, you fuckin’ twit. Being DEEPLY involved in the music scene while I was there changed my previous ignorant opinion that I’d find a unique and hoppin’ music scene in Canada’s East. Instead I found a trend of yesterday, no, the “day” before yesterday, that just doesn’t stop and nary a fuckiong fiddle to be found. How many times must Mustang Sally be heard by your eastern ears? You all fucking clap like you’ve never heard it before and so nothing ever changes. Your local bands are all just “good enough”. Whatever. That’s what happens when you live in a hole, I guess.

The fact that you percieve my previous post a personal attack on YOU should tell you all you need to know, victim. You’re always somebody’s victim, aren’t you? MIght as well be mine. Suits me fine and, obviously, it suits you very well too. Again, you’re welcome to understand what the term “progressive” means before you spew yet again. Try some Incubus or Porcupine Tree… or the Black Eyed Peas you fuckin’ twit.

  35. BEP’s are progressive? How so? Maybe when they first became popular, but what makes them progressive now? I’m asking sincerely by the way. Since Fergie started her solo career both she and the BEP have been pretty generic sounding. So what do you mean by “progressive” Kay?

  36. Vary the traditional “formula” by, for example, merging two or more previously unrelated, genre’s in musical composition. Give the top-40 stations a “boundary” to ponder.

  37. Ignorance does indeed strike again. Nowhere did I state that classification of musical genre is a personal opinion. Try reading what people write and attempt employment of some comprehension BEFORE you respond so as to make less of an ass of yourself. Or not, because we all get a laugh from your stupidity. Keep the entertainment coming!

You only think you were DEEPLY involved in the music scene if all you heard here was Mustang Sally! Too bad you never expanded your horizons beyond one little blues bar that you can’t even spell properly.

And calling me a victim in your last post was a personal attack on who then?

BTW: Still waiting for an answer to my question about why you feel you need to level insults and name-calling at someone because they don’t share your opinion. What exactly is the point of that? Does it make you feel intellectually superior?

  38. Superior? Nah, it makes me feel all progressive, pragmatic and prone to grow with an open mind and open ears that REALLY listen. Believe it or not some people who read this post are going to hear Porcupine Tree for the first time and get a feel for a progressive sound. IMO that’s awesome!

I’ve been calling you OceanVictim ever since we met while you happily respond. Read your own damn history once in a while to discover why the moniker most appropriate. That… and you remind me of a particular person in the HRM… sometimes I like to think you ARE that person… it’s not impossible and a bitch like me can dream me Cat and you mouse.

As to my experience on the scene, in the biz and privied to your local scene… shit, where’s Desi when I need him?

If I liked you better, victim, I would have agreed a Wheezing Black Eyed Pea very odd until I imagined a Wheezified BEP tune…. Or vice versa!

Really, I just need some chocolate

  39. Porcupine Tree is nothing new. Nineteen eighties-something band aren’t they? Neither is Incubus. Your progressiveness is in your own mind silly person. Your important mission to educate the poor ignorant easterners is nothing more than delusional self-grandiosity, but if it makes you feel better to think you are the only one who is privy to non-eastern music artists you go right ahead sweetie. I’m not here to upset your apple-cart. But stop slagging the Nova Scotia music scene until you take the blues-blinders off. There is so much more going on here. Pity you never looked beyond the end of your smug little nose to find it. Your loss really. But then again it is the fool who is critical of the musical taste of others. What is the point of that really? To show people how stupid you think they are for not having the same musical appreciation as you? Who-the-fuck-cares???

And why the need to play cat and mouse? Seriously? What’s THAT all about? You needn’t bother really because I will ALWAYS be the CAT!!! Beware!

  40. OMG.. PLEASE tell me WTF more is going on in the HRM that’s not a classic rock or blues rock band? I’ll give you Merrimac is unique and progressive sounding but name another local artist/band who regularilly gigs, like PAID gigs, in local venues who dares to step outside such an old, limited box. Have you EVER heard a BEP, Incubus or Porcupine Tree song covered by ANY band ANYWHERE in the HRM? Leave the singer songwriter indie acts that would get booed off a Saturday night stage and name 3 local acts, even 1 with a consistent progressive sound and I’ll eat my words. The scene has stalled IMO A night at Gus’s makes for very interesting given everything else going on is the same ol’ same ol’

Again, victim, get your ears around what a progressive sound IS.

  41. HAHAHA Black Eyed Peas? Progressive?

    hilarious!!

If anything they have gone downhill joining the ranks of shitty artists that are way overrated, they used to be good. There’s so many shitty artists that are successful for reasons other than talent and quality, Black Eyed Peas is one of them. It’s easy to make catchy shitty music, that’s all they do anymore.

  42. When you’re rappin’ over pop music it ain’t pop and it ain’t rap and there you have “progressive”. Porcupine Tree slaps (soft) rock against jazz. Incubus… not straight up rock, not really pop either and something inbetween that doesn’t really qualify as “alternative rock” either so there again, “a progressive sound”.

    Are we listening yet?

All NOT classic rock or blues artists, which was your complaint, that Nova Scotians haven’t moved beyond blues and classic rock. Au contraire, je pense.

Not the hip-hop progressive pop sound of the Peas but, who-the-fuck cares?

As for covering tunes of bands that you cited, most east coast artists prefer to perform original material as opposed to cover tunes. Cover bands tend to style themselves after the more popular bands. Why wasn’t Desi able to cover the tunes you cited? Didn’t he perform locally? I wonder why if you thought you were that DEEPLY into the music scene while you were here that you were wondering where Desi was when you needed him? Seems a bit contradictory really.

Pairing of musical acts a la Weezer/The BE Peas is nothing new. But it does discourage those who want full value for their money and/or don’t want to put up with an hour or so of music they is not to their taste. Personally, I’ve listened to the Peas stuff and it is not something I would pay to see, no matter how much other people may like it. I don’t dislike it. I am merely indifferent to it. I am not a country music fan either and am equally unlikely to find myself at a concert of that genre or any other not to my taste, even if the ticket was free. Nor do I seek to impose my musical taste upon others or look down upon them for their preferences, because who-the-fuck cares!!!

  44. You’re saying that the Black Eyed Peas were the first group to rap over pop music? HAHAHA! WOW…

And if your idea of progression in music is taking two already established genres and poorly mish-mashing them together like what the Black Eyed Peas have done… I’m not sure that you know what the word progression means…

In order for something to be progressive, kay, it has to not only innovative, but well executed. Black Eyed Peas is neither. Go ahead and try to argue that it is, but you’ve already exposed yourself as knowing nothing about music AND having bad taste… no one is taking you seriously.

I know you’re just having a hissy fit because you LOVE Fergie so I’m going to stop arguing with you and let you wallow in your shitty lyrics and overly-repetitive melodies.

    http://www.cracked.com/video_17618_black-e…

  45. ” most east coast artists prefer to perform original material as opposed to cover tunes”
NOT the ones who like to get paid to play, the sorriest FACT of the biz there is. The question is which East Coast artists are producing something original SOUNDING? As long as you all stroke each other at the ECMA’s cheering for the same 4 arrangements… shrug.

and don’t you worry about Desi… he doesn’t give a rat’s ass what you think while I think it’s just funny.

Nobody said the BEP’s were the first at anything, fizz, I just cited they’re a progressive band a little left of center. And I didn’t even mention the F-word but since you brought up Fergie, I’d like to hear what happens when you put a SlipKnot on the same stage. And you say something about the execution of a song as if you have even a smidgen of a clue given all your karaoke and top-40 radio experience. Just… don’t.

  46. I don’t give a rats ass what Desi thinks either. You were the one who needed his help to make a point about music. Not I.

The list of artists I provided not only get/have gotten paid to perform, they get paid quite well. Because they have originality. Go to the Legion if you want to see cover bands!

  47. You mean go to ANY no-cover-charge pub to see a paid cover band. THAT’S the market for players and, once you’re in it, you don’t get to progress save for rolling yet another nickleback tune into the set. Every once in a while you hear a band cover an Eastern artist. Can someone say parrot? If I wanted to hear City of Lakes the way the recording plays I’d play the damn recording at home, in the car or though my iPod. No, I want a unique arrangment or something different than (bad) parroting to call live “entertainment”. Oh, but don’t colour outside the lines. no no no

Most of the artists you listed, what was that, an ECMA nominee list?… When was the last time you saw good ol’ Sloan paid to entertain at your local pub? A little reality related to what’s actually playing in the pubs, please. Those are the SAME BANDS playing the legion, hence my conclusion about the current music scene in the HRM, “STALLED”

If you’re an original act your PAYING TO PLAY (as in, your bar tab at the end of the night, for your own equipment, for your gas to get there and back, etc) until you can generatee a following that will pay to see you play. It’s terribly unfair and terribly simple if you konw the biz.

  48. When was the last time you saw Black Eyed Peas, Porcupine Tree or Incubus in a pub? Local or otherwise. I’ve personally seen a dozen of the acts I listed at local venues, none of them Bearly’s. They all do well with album sales too. But I guess you can only speak from personal experience. Just because Desi has a terrible time getting paid gigs doesn’t mean that all musicians are stuck in that groove. Sheeeeesh!

  49. Victim, you don’t even know what a Desi is so WTF are you talking about? You don’t even know so don’t bother answering.

Have you ever booked a band? Do you know what a bar pays these bands to appear? Do you know what those same bars say to a no name indie with a box of CD’s to sell side stage? Go to Gus’ and check it out. I spent 3 years exploring the scene in and around HRM knowing what to look for. Unlike you I do not speak from the side of my head. When you went to see acts you’ve listed you paid a cover charge to get in, and they knew you would, that’s how they got the booking in the first place.

The point is the cover bands are STUCK playing the same old shit. All I ask is they get creative with the music they didn’t have the bones to write themselves but that’s too much to ask in the HRM.
