Yeah, I would also like to know when it became okay to have opened strollers in the bus. When my son was small and I had to take the stroller with me, I had to fold it up to take it on the bus and was still glared at. Today everyone thinks they’re entitled to just take up as much room as they please. No one wins when everyone has to dance around the obstruction and listen to a wailing child who is freaked out ’cause they can’t see their parent facing that way. AND they dont move or apologize to the elderly/less abled whose designated seats they’re sitting in.
I just noticed this today, being new to the halifax bus system a woman in front of me had this massive stroller, I was thinking the bus driver would turn her away but she brought it on the bus and parked it right behind the driver in the middle of the aisle. That was pretty fucked, every new passenger had to walk past it. Move that shit to the back behind the second door at least.
A while back they used to make people with strollers fold them up to bring them on the bus, but they changed it for some reason. Personally, I think they should still have to fold them up. Tripping over someone’s kid in a Baby SUV (cause that’s what half of them are these days – who needs 50 sq ft of portable storage for their brat??) is not my idea of a safe mode of transport.

This is a verbatim excerpt from the Metro Transit “Passenger Safety” page: “Strollers and Children–Strollers are permitted on Metro Transit vehicles. After boarding, a child may be left in the stroller if space permits; however, the stroller cannot block the aisle or impede the movement of other passengers. The brakes must be engaged and the stroller must be held at all times. Should the adult choose to remove the child from the stroller, it must be folded and stored in a safe position.” I guess ya gotta risk looking like an asshole, but strollers need to be folded on the bus, period. I have no problem doing that, especially when the driver does’nt seem to give a fuck. Here’s another question: why does’nt Metro Transit have a policy against drivers using their cellphones while operating the bus? I’ve spoken to many a driver about this, and they all get offended when they’re called on it!! Just a thought…
Funny how the drivers ignore shit like that cause obviously Metro Transit is worried they’re going to “offend” someone. However, try to get on a bus with a beverage (in a closed container with a lid) and you either have to dump it or walk home. I really can’t see how a closed, unopened coffee or a half empty bottle of chocolate milk would be more dangerous to metro transit passengers than a stroller in the middle of the aisle.

The issue with beverages in a “take out” style container is the fact that they have opened in the event of a sudden stop or if someone trips and then you have hot liquid being spilled on someone. Never mind the fact that too many fellow transit users are fuckin pigs and simply toss their garbage onto the bus floor.I believe the changing of the stroller policy came into effect once transit found out that parents of disabled children find it difficult to removed the child and hold them on their laps while also holding onto a folded stroller. Drivers can’t ask whether the child is handicapped or not when deciding to request a stroller be folded down so their hands are tied by the politically correct managers at HRM.What transit needs to clamp down on are fuckin rejects who feel the need to curse over and over while making sure everyone hears them. Respect for fellow passengers is at an all time low in this city.

Dear mwh…yes, I have heard of saving time, but taking the time to communicate with others in a clear manner also saves time. It’s hard to read and understand responses when you take such liberties with the English language; not to mention you sound like a 12-year-old who quit school in the second grade.
