Am I the only one outraged by the billboard on Herring Cove Road, just after the junction with Purcell’s Cove Road? The billboard is for a US-based cult that actively promotes discrimination against established churches, as well as against lesbians and gays. How were they allowed to post their billboards in Canada? Isn’t this a violation of the CHRA Section 3? —Keep Cults Out of Halifax

I accept and protect the rights of people and organizations to believe all sorts of horrible things but I also respect and defend the right of people like the OP to call them out on their bullshit.
But in this case it depends on the content of the billboard, if the billboard itself isn’t inciting hatred then it’s fine. Merely being a billboard for a cult that discriminates against people isn’t enough, otherwise every Catholic SUNDAY BINGO sign would be outlawed.

okay CHRA chapter three doesnt say that any group or organization cannot have advertising on a billboard promoting their organization. that is a stupid interpretation of chapter three. Moreover…it would be a violation of chapter three if it said something like…”all gays and lesbians should be punished” openly on the billboard. stop changing the letter of the law just to fit your interpretation. if it was in violation of a law im sure it would have been dealt with by now from some supersensitive group or individual already.
Herring Cove Road…..yuck. I don’t go anywhere near that portion of HRM. Likely that cult supports teen pregnancy, drug use, and random shootings….all of which fit right in with that area.

I actually saw the billboard in question today and it’s just about how the world is going to end in May or something… no hatred on it.
