I thought cyclists were supposed to act like they are driving a vehicle when on their bike. Why then do I constantly see people driving their bikes through pedestrian crosswalks? These are for pedestrians, if you need to cross, WALK your bike. Am I wrong about this rule because it happens so often I am starting to wonder. It is also dangerous. And another thing, if bikes are supposed to act like cars, why are people driving their bikes like maniacs? Two weeks ago a cyclist clipped my side mirror when I was stopped at a light just to pull ahead of me. I just don’t understand. I support cycling but where are the cyclists who follow the rules of the road? We need more of them around this city. —Cranky Commuter

It’s because some cyclists think they can do whatever they like, such as coming up your right side as you’re making a right turn. But hey they do have forcefields surrounding them.
Suck it up, buttercup. With a ballpark 100:1 ratio of cars to bikes, that translates into way more assholes in cars than on bikes. And thats one to fucking grow on. Next time don’t hug the curb with your fucking death machine.

And stop cutting off vehicles or trying to go around them where you shouldn’t be passing. You might be “able” to, but if you get a car or BUS up your ass, you probably don’t have a popsicle’s chance in hell.

■Cyclists may pass on the right of stopped motor vehicles, if safe to do so.
If a car is making a legal turn and dopey cyclist comes up the right side and gets hit, the cyclist is at fault. Read the words “may” and “if safe to do so”.

I agree with cranky about not hugging the curb on a turn. An 18 year old kid in my town got killed doing just that. If you’re on a bike and traffic is moving slowly, don’t be afraid to take the centre of the lane.
If there is a bicyclist on the ferry with you, it is a kindness to hit the automatic door button for them so they can roll their bikes through the doorway unimpeded.
I ride my bike on the road; I also use hand signals for turning and stop at stop signs…although IF there is no traffic, I’ll just slow down (the ‘California Roll’).
I’ve heard for cyclists before Xeno, ” if you can’t see my bike you sure as hell won’t see my hand !”
I guess they gotta justify no signaling somehow ~;p
