To the stupid lady who took the time out of her commute to yell at me from her window at a rotary just now: The big yellow sign that says “SINGLE FILE” and has a picture of a bike and car in single file, that means cars and bikes should be in SINGLE FILE. There’s no way for me to get into SINGLE FILE without me moving from the right hand bike lane into the other lanes. Also, looking over your shoulder IS considered signalling. Read the Nova Scotia Driver’s Handbook. Asshole. —Car Drivers Are The Worst

It’s no wonder so many cyclists get hit if that is how you interpret the suggestion in the Driver’s Handbook that looking over your shoulder “also signals to a driver…” That does not mean it replaces the hand signals you are legally required to use.
Darwin will win out.
Lack of consideration of others, selfishness & negativity abound
The lack of a hand signal does not give the motorist the right to run down a cyclist. Fuck, what us wrong with you people? Is hurting/maiming/killing us worth it to you?
The few seconds you lose will be made up after we are safely out of your way. Keep in mind that the locking end of a u-shaped bike lock is very heavy; and handy. Ask those who have challenged me.
After we pass you on the long lineup at the red light, then curse at us and cry; but we still got home faster than you and we paid nothing to get there.
Ha. Ha!
^There is nothing remotely brag-worthy about threatening others with a U-lock.
No one said anything about the “right to run down a cyclist”. When you don’t signal your intention to turn, motorists are entitled to assume you aren’t going to veer from your current course. So when you do turn into their path, you may expect to get hit. And ticketed under the Motor Vehicle Act, if you’re still alive to receive it.
I love how some members of the biking community have this sense of entitlement that makes them think they are permitted to operate their mode of active transport anywhere in any fashion they so choose. Whether it’s riding on the sidewalk or ignoring rules of the road. To add to this is the violent responses from these individuals when they are called out on unsafe or inappropriate behaviour.
Just like some motorists, some bicyclists are ignorant, self-entitled people who think they are beyond rules and regulations, cooperation and general civility.
Unfortunately, Priapus YHZ appears to have some significant anger issues and is likely aggressive towards everyone in every situation whether they are operating a bike, car or a can opener. They also appear to have little consideration for the law, both in bike operation and openly threatening to harm people online. Both demonstrations of poor judgement are not constructive in trying to bridge the gap between the motorist and the bicyclist.
I’m surprised a Top Commenter isn’t aware of the Coast’s policy.
“Bad comments are often long, and contain threats, needless swearing or abusive content.”
Threatening violence with a U-lock still sounds like a threat to me.
There’s nothing more dangerous to individual rights than vaguely written policy. They provide administrators of said policies undue power. Vagueness turns policy into a sword of Damocles. And when applied sporadically, it becomes a joke.
@Priapus.. you say “wtf is wrong with you people based on; “The lack of a hand signal does not give the motorist the right to run down a cyclist.” but I don’t believe anyone feels this way
Since we can’t ask “those who challenged” you.. I’ll ask you.. What happened when you were challenged?
Re; “.. we paid nothing to get there”.. Bicycles cost money don’t they?, & require tune-ups & fixings sometimes too, no?
I like your 2nd comment though
Sometimes “rising on the sidewalk or ignoring the rules of the road” is actually the safest, most logical decision considering cyclists were really considered a whole lot in a lot of the plannings & design
“Just like some motorists, some byclists are ignorant, self-entitled people…” indeed
“Can opener”, LOL!!, good one man
Well Wes, I speak from experience. The tuneup I had done 2 years ago cost me $125 with new brake pads, brake mechanism and a chain. So yes, it cost me $0.171232 to get back and forth to work.
TOSG, yeah… you tend to get pissed off when you are constantly challenged by motorists. I take the right of way when I have it. But that’s not MY problem – it is yours. Bike lock.
Priapus…you’re going to meet onebadmutherfucker someday and you’ll be the one laying on the pavement bleeding next to your bike…there’s always someone tougher and crazier than you…
Hahaha! This is a funny thread! Tougher and crazier? Good to know that I’ll be run down.
