I think it is ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING that a certain long-standing “mom and pop” restaurant is being evicted to make room for a well-known, large franchise!!! I hope the regular customers will step forward and support the wonderful couple who have run the soon-to-be-evicted restaurant for 21 years. They are the most awesome people you could ever meet and DO NOT deserve to be treated this way. LET’S STAND UP TO THE BULLIES!!! —Sick of Bullies

  1. that’s a good reason to boycott thsat particular outlet. they are too big for their own good now. and the coffee does suck. the only thing that redeems them, are the donuts, even after they stopped making the banana cream ones.
stand up and make your voice known, this little shop has been there longer than the other, i think. they should have a priority over the spot. let’s gives tim’s a blast of hell.

  2. OB, the “mom and pop” could have bought the building. They didn’t. Tough shit. Evict them and bring in the wrecking ball.

  3. Sebas, I doubt they could have “bought the building”. I don’t think they would have the money or would have been able to get a loan for that, besides why would they? Everything was going fine for them up until now.

  4. Sebastabitch – the building in question is Scotia Fucking Square, you A.D.D. afflicted hogge-jockey. Even an upwardly mobile dick (heh heh ,see what I did there) like yourself would have to play a lot of rusty trombones to earn the scratch necessary to buy that pile of fossilized shit and rebar.

  5. The ‘regular customers’ will just as easily line up at TH as they would at this place. Sad but true. Next.

  6. as someone who eats there 3-5 days every week off and on for 7 and a half years…
    I am also quite pissed!
no way in hell am I getting breakfast from A&W…

Hortons has the space from the old Maritime Travel AND old Second Cup…
I would think that would be enough real estate considering…

    LEAVE EM ALONE!

  7. These big companies putting all the little guys out of business are turning the consumer landscape into bland, no-choice options. I am in support of this bitch and firmly anti-chainstore for that reason.

  8. I wonder if moving locations could work for this restaurant? Maybe where the old TCBY was? Or where TH is now?

  9. This shouldn’t be allowed. It’s like being fired without just cause. And please don’t feed the troll (seb)

  10. they can’t move to the tims spot because the building is being revamped and they need that for some new entrance… or an extension on the current one… not sure.

    what about the treats spot?
    it’s been closed for a while… the tcby is a little large…
and with over 600 signatures on their petition, their following, myself included, would definitely follow.

  11. I almost think they’re doing something to the treats spot, but I’m not sure. And I have no idea what TCBY stands for.

  12. I don’t think they can move into the spot where TH is now. If I am correct I heard that TH has to move because Scotia Square wants to put an entrance or something in the spot.

  13. If it makes any of you feel better they treat their employees like garbage. The mom and pop that is, not TH. I used to work in SSQ and I heard far too many bad things about that place, so peace out.

  14. it is a ghetto mall… but then again, it’s primarily for all the business folk who’re there every day.
The place is EMPTY on holidays…
(forcing myself to seek alternate sources of food)

and business folk like things to look expensive…
    even if they aren’t.

  15. I’d rather gargle a half dozen koi fish with battery acid than drink that bitter devil juice from TH – most revolting sludge ever. Don’t even get me started on Starfucks.

  16. when the boy was little we went to the hobby shop, they set up electric trains around christmas. i think there was a towers store and a pet shop too

  17. Back in the early 80s there were 2 WH Smiths Bookstores, The one on the upper level was all paperbacks and their backlist selection was awesome. The pet shop was up by the theatre. First movie I ever saw in Halifax was “Apocalypse Now”. First time SOBova asked me out was to see “Empire of the Sun” there. Now, all those moments are, lost in time, like tears in the rain. *releases dove, dies*

  18. Well that’s just it OP isn’t it? The business doesn’t do the talking in the case. The consumer does.

Consumers will have the final say on this one so be careful who you blame.

  19. I know an occupy protester who was spotted in wal mart the other day..

It’s easy to talk about how you feel and easy to make drama but very difficult to acknowledge your own personal part in the whole thing.

  20. The Square of Scotia.

“I know an occupy protester who was spotted in wal mart the other day.”
Well Duh. You don’t honestly think they shoplifted their sharpies and bristol board from Toomis & Loles, do you? >; )

  21. And I hear They have *iPhones* too, Comrade Ivan!
The neck of those Occupiers. Shopping where they can get a bargain! They’re all dirty, out-of-work hippies! They should be paying more for stuff, on principle!

I think I remember that there was a theatre in that mall, but for the life of me can’t remember ever going to it…

  22. i watched the toronto occupy decamping via twitter. there was one dude yelling “it’s g20 again”…far from it. it’s was nice and peaceful and the cops and protesters were very calm, except for looney boy, who climbed a tree, near the end of it all

  23. I remember the hobby shop trains! And the pet shop. Saw Bill Clinton out the window of that place when he was visiting. SS went to hell once Woolco shut down. I feel old.

  24. i always like the fountain, and the big tree decorated at christmas time, yes, i said CHRISTMAS, not fucking holiday time.

  25. Well Tim’s had nothing to do with the change. If you’re going to get pissed off at someone get pissed off at REIT. They made the changes, not Tim’s.

  26. I remember their chicken caesar wrap was reasonably priced and very filling. It’s not like I’d get food from Tims anyways. If I’m in that food court it will be that little Lebanese place for me.

  27. I’ve seen this before. A small business gets careless and allows their lease to slip away on them. It’s sad, but it also serves as a reminder that when you have a good location, you need to be vigilant at your lease negotiations.

  28. The real criminal here is Crombie, who owns Scotia Square. They are forcing Timmies to move due to the reconstruction of the Blue Cross entrance. Concurrently, Crombie has not renegotiated PG’s lease and have offered TH that spot. I am no Tim lover, but please people make an informed bitch before spouting off.

  29. there was a theatre? a BAR? that’ve been sweet…
there are some days where even the quick commute home is still too long before I start hammering down a pint or 9

  30. FYI folks, Mom and Pop were offered a new revamped space with more square footage, but they refused cause it would cost a bit more. They were told of this over a year ago when their lease renewal came up. They are the ones refusing to play ball, and stamping their feet like a bunch of babies. It’s not “their” space, they rent it, and if they don’t want to do what the owners want, when they offer you a very generous deal then TFB!
