  1. As much as it sucks(and woooo Gloria rocks!), you’re probably going to have to get very used to people giving you the shaft if you’re going into journalism. Posting your woes in an anonymous forum with more than enough details to identify you probably isn’t going to help you any, and looks really unprofessional.

  2. Really? A mayor cancelling an interview with a journalism student at the last minute is something that could ONLY happen in a shit-hole town? LOL. I’m sure that’s the kind of thing that can happen anywhere, and is probably more likely to happen in a bigger, less shit hole-y center. Hate on Halifax all you want, but at least pick something reasonable to be critical of. Otherwise, people might not take you seriously.

  3. The mayor giving you the runaround…He was testing your journalistic integrity.Follow the lead, hustle!Reporters arn’t entitled to shit so why should you? Get dirty and dig up shit…If this is your chosen path then you might as well quit now because in case you don’t watch the news people NEVER want to give interviews… Unless someone stole from them…

  4. If the OP wants to practise journalism, leave Nova Scotia. Not only will you get better stories, but you’ll actually get a shot at a job.

  5. “FYI… whoever posted as Desi… my Desi was on the stage yesterday at 5pm so… whatever.”Hey Kay – great to see you’re so super supportive – while your “husband” is “on stage”, you’re online posting shit about the province which apparently supports him…Get a grip, Toots.

  6. You are going to experience a lot of frustration in this line of work, and right now, you’reletting it get to your head. You can’t let things like this get to your head when you’re injournalism. Those who say that this can only happen in a shit hole, well, if you think Halifax is a shit hole, then you haven’t been to some of the towns I’ve been to. I’ve been to towns that will make you kiss the ground when you get back to Halifax, and make you say “Thankfully, I’m back.” because they’re so awful.

  7. I’d ditch the entire north american continent right now if you want to go into journalism myself…you know it’s bad when the new york times starts laying people off!but really: this happens a lot in this business. at least someone called; a lot of the time, they jsut don’t show up. sometimes everything works out and that’s great, but you’ve always got to have a backup plan, and be able and ready to switch everything at the last second to make deadline. frankly, he may have did you a favor- teaching you one of the ugly little truths about this business that will help you A LOT in the future. besides, is your story better now than it would have been if he’d shown? probably :)ps desi, kay, my heads spinning- are you guys sharing a brain? or possibly one of you is the voice the other hears in their head…

  8. Hey Gidge, there’s a difference between being a wife to a rock star and being his groupie. When I don’t go to a gig it’s not like I stop being his wife.

  9. but when you remind us of your ‘rock star’ husband, it’s not like we think you’re any less of an asshole Kay.

  10. Kay said: “Hey Gidge, there’s a difference between being a wife to a rock star and being his groupie.
