I asked myself a question the other day, and the answer was that I will never get a good government job, because being a white male, I am the minority. Thanks to Canada for letting so many people in our country, thanks again for giving them our jobs. Something tells me I would not be treated so nicely if I went to another country and tried to get a government job! —Feeling Great About Life

  1. I am a casual employee of a provincial department. After reading your bitch I thought about it and realized that almost everyone I work with in the provincial department is white and was born in Canada.
Also, my full time job is in a federal institute, same deal here. And I’ve seen “them” (non Canadians) trying to get jobs here, it’s not easy.
So, fuck you OP. Maybe it’s your skill set, or maybe the big chip on your shoulder shows in interviews. I’m in a hiring position, and can tell you that I’d think long and hard about an employee who saw such a big separation between Canadians, immigrants or otherwise.

  2. Ah – it’s because you’re in the majority dick weed. And all the white dick week positions have been filled. Ba bye.

  3. Checking the job bank I was looking at this was posted at the top of a job ad. Nice eh!! Equal my ass.

The Province of Nova Scotia is an equal opportunity employer. Through the Employment Equity Policy, the Government of Nova Scotia is creating a Service which is representative of the diverse public it serves. Government is committed to ensuring diversity in the workplace by supporting initiatives that promote the equitable participation of Aboriginal persons, African Nova Scotians and other racially visible persons, persons with disabilities and women in positions where they are under represented. All applicants who are members of an employment equity group are encouraged to self identify.

Although it nice to know they are not against hiring all different groups, just wondering how putting this over top of a job ad is showing equal opportunity to ALL people. Not just certian groups. They bascially should say anyone not white please apply.

  4. You misinterpret the intent……they ask minorities to self-identify themselves although do not hire based on this alone……it still *should* be the most qualified but if the score was equal between the top two contenders then the “minority” trumps.

I worked for government and all our job postings stated we required minimum grade XI education…….we only selected those with Masters degrees at the time but if we put Masters required over 2/3 of the schlep already employed there would not be qualified for the positions they held.

  5. I work for the federal gov’t. I am a white male. The majority of the office in which I work are comprised of caucasian men and women. Your bitch is baseless and inaccurate. You’re just coming off sounding like sour grapes because you were turned down for a job that was given to someone better qualifed then you and who just happened to be of a visible minority group. Build a bridge, improve your skill sets and apply somewhere else. If you still feel you have been wronged, submit a grievance. All gov’t departments have this option in their hiring process. Otherwise, time to stop talking. What people like you fail to remember is that, here in Canada, unless you are aboriginal, we ALL descended from immigrants.

  6. Only immigrants with citizenship can get government jobs – and many immigrants do not get citizenship. Permanent residents – immigrants w/out citizenship – can find private sector jobs but can’t get government jobs.

I agree with avast0. I worked in government in Ottawa where most employees are white and the vast majority of managers are white men. They do try to fill their positions with minorities where possible but only if they meet the requirements for the position. That means if a minority/immigrant and a non-minority are both qualified for the job, then, in theory, the minority/immigrant gets the job (in practice tie breakers often come down to who is better acquainted with the hiring manager). But an underqualified minority is never hired over a qualified non-minority.

OP, maybe you should work on your qualifications?

  7. Just remember “A Canadian is an immigrant with seniority.”
I’m not sure who said that quote, I read it posted somewhere at Pier 21.

  8. You fucking ASSHAT — if you ever bothered to READ the disclaimers on most government of canada job postings you’d know that citizens get hiring priority over immigrants. So either these people were born somewhere else but have obtained citizenship here (which makes them just the same as you, jerkwad) or they were born here. You DO realize that people who don’t look like you ARE born here every day, right?

And fuck off with this whole “whoa is me I’m a white male so I’m being fucked up the ass harder than sebastard” shit. *I* can’t even get a government job and I’m a female AND I have experience working in government. Why? Because currently, I don’t have the French qualifications. I was told in an interview last year that they would love to hire me, but they only had the funding to hire someone with a C/B/C language profile in French and they didn’t have the funds to send me to French training. You probably aren’t fluent, are you, OP? Because if you were you’d have no problem getting a position. These days, the government will take bilingual candidates over non bilingual candidates.

You DO realize there are hundreds, if not thousands of people applying for every single job posting open to the public, right? Chances are, someone else has better qualifications as you.

Get the chip off your shoulder, you assfuck.

  9. “Plenty of white people work for the gov’t OP. Try being black in the 60s.”

    I love you tommy.

“I work for the federal gov’t.”

You hiring, avast? I’m learning French! And I’m awesome! And I passed the grad recruitment test with 20 points over the average mark! Plus a bunch of others! 🙂

  10. lol sometimes the long winded comments can be avoided, PK. I thought that summed it up pretty well. Nothing I can’t stand more than people feeling sorry for themselves, especially the “poor me I’m a white male in a world that just BENDS OVER FUCKING BACKWARDS for minorities” gimme a fuckin break. Read a history book FFS.

  11. So where does this myth come from is the question. Most member or parliament are white men, there may be one female premier if I’m not mistaken. Most major Canadian cities, if not all, have a white man as their mayor. I’ve seen a few non white postal employees but they are *sigh* a minority. I know from the news after the riots that the Chief of Police in Vancouver is of Asian, I believe Chinese decent. But for the most part this is still a very white country. That is changing very quickly, but I don’t think we’re in any danger of being forced out of our jobs or anything.

I was in New York this time last year, there wasn’t too many white faces to be seen. Almost every cop or public employee was black. Time to get over it OP, there is no war on whiteness. This is Nova Scotia for fucks sake.

  12. even if what he says is true, government jobs are just a small fraction of the jobs available.

OB, what are your excuses for all the non-government jobs that you are not able to get?

    it sucks to be you.

  13. and you an’t say shit about them, else you get flamed by some group or other. the only thin gthat matters to any government of the day, is your vote. other than that, they don’t give a flying fuck about you.

  14. So you lost out to someone with higher qualifications. Put on your big boy pants and get over it. Work on your skill set, and your attitude, then try again.

  15. You have to realize that there is a formal recruiting policy and procedure for a large organization like the government. Your application needs to be submitted in the eact ways they request or they may not be allowed to accept your submission. Expect to have your resume ‘scored’ by someone that wont be participating in other parts of the recruiting process. If you want to get a job with the gov, it would be a good idea to take some workshops about their recruiting policies, and it woukld pay to talk to gov HR recuiters. Better yet, dont talk to them….just listen.

  16. So true OP. No doubt they gave those Tamil (Tiger) boat people who illegally landed in Vancouver government jobs in Immigration too. I suggest you throw on a burka and apply. If you can’t beat them, might as well use their immigrant values against them for your own gain.

  17. How dare they deny you your shot at Nova Scotian dream #1 (dream # 2 being work long enough to collect EI, work under the table the rest of the year, repeat as necessary).

  18. PK- Wow! Awesome, adorable and able to fit in most carry-on luggage??! I’m impressed. lol

  19. Think Christina Ricci, except you’d actually want to spend time with her, and you’ve got our Kitteh. Also, she eschews trousers.

  20. Merci Mon Ami. I spent my 50th eating perogies and watching a Mk XVI Spitfire take off and beat up the aerodrome before departing into the high blue yonder. Sour cream and Merlin music – couldn’t have asked for a better one. SCREEEEEE.
Also, I now have crow underpants to wear on special occasions. Spassibo Boshoi, SOBova. >: )

  21. Perhaps I can educate and try to help the OP understand just how wrong, how very, very sad this bitch is.
As an aboriginal person, it pains me to…..
Oh fuck it. Some people are just plain stupid.
