I keep hearing terrible stories about bed bugs around Halifax. Bed begs in the hospital, on the bus, in apartment buildings, senior complexes, nursing homes, hotels and student housing. Halifax you have a beg bug problem!!! Get your shit together and do something about it!! This is not acceptable!!! —Sleeping Tight

  1. Yes Virginia, there are bed bugs.

Like other cities in Canada, Halifax has seen fit to ban the use of products that kill the little fuckers so they creep along, hitching rides on the bus, in the cabs, on the ferry, in shuttles, at schools, at work places, in restaurants and in every other public and private place you can imagine. Look! There’s a pregnant female on you now!

There is also hysteria and conjecture. Some claim to see Jesus. Some claim to see Meaty. Was it a bed bug or was someone being hypersensitive? Who knows?

  2. What made me mad was the ignorant comments online about how people are dirty who get them. Neat freaks get bed bugs too and are often wondering where they got them from. This has been a problem in halifax for a long time and its just suddenly reaching the news. Worse part is its so expensive to do the right treatments to get rid of them so some really can’t do much about it unless they have someone to help them out. I hate the person who decided that the old treatments were not safe for humans. I rather breath in deadly fumes than have the risk of a massive expense to get rid of unwanted roommates. Let alone if it got bad enough you lose everything and have to start over. A lot cannot afford to do that.

  3. New York, Boston, LA, Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal etc. (to name a few) all have similar problems. Guess you’re only looking into local news, OB.

But yes, Halifax does have a lot of problems 🙂

  4. I believe there was some sort of agent in the pesticide that caused pregnant women to deliver deformed babies or something like that. There are things you can do if you get them that does not cost an arm and a leg. Steamers do a great job on fabrics, mattresses, sofas, etc. Silicon Dioxcide can be purchased at Wal-Mart or Canadian Tire, isopropyl alcohol at 995 can be sprayed directly on eggs and live bed bugs and will kill them but use in well ventilated rooms and do not use around smokers or anything that can make a spark as it is very flammable. Baking soda is apparently caustic to them so you can put some on your box spring and mattress to deter the little blood suckers from coming to you. Hope it works. Oh yeah, vaccum, vaccum, vaccum.

  5. Another thing I forgot to mention, they (bed bugs) can lie dormant for up to 24 months without feeding, then wake up and are super hungry.

  6. I’m wondering how the little friggers didn’t freeze their minuscule nut-sack off on a bus in January?

  7. There evil. I know people who lost everything due to them. They are the people having the worst reaction to this recent news cause they are afraid they will have to go through it all again. They always knew the bugs were around but they have never been the same since getting the unwanted roomates gone. They watch things much closer than they use to. This hit the news and it just made them worse. Last thing they want to to start over again.
