Ok, WTF is the problem with people in the media beating up on Stoffer? The guy is doing what he was elected to do, represent his constituents wishes, regardless of his own personal views.

The people that are pissed off in his constituency probably didn’t lift a finger to call and make it known that they oppose it, so the man has to go with his constituents that actually give a fuck and call him.

Media and other spineless politicians crucify this guy because of it, fuck knows they don’t have two stones to represent their ridings and people in it, it’s fuckin’ easy to tow the line. Props Pete, I’ll keep voting for ya. —Doin’ what’s right is never easy

  1. He said he conducted a poll. I would love to see how this was done and if it was done by standards used by polling companies. This is just an out for him after he’s been whipped.

  2. People are beating up on him because he has an impeccable record – is non-partisan on more issues than most politicians, looks out for constituents of all political persuasions… in other words, he is a good guy – and a lot of people don’t like to see good people succeed.

This issue is not going to destroy him.

  3. at first i thought you meant our illustrious mayor, who seems to have succumbed to swampy swimming syndrome^^

  4. because he is a two faced, flip flopping, lying son of a bitch. that a good enough answer for you asshole.

  5. Because, you dimwit, he maintained for all of his previous life in the public eye that he was against it. THEN suddenly he claims that a slightly-whelming (not quite overwhelming) proportion are suddenly for it, and to boot, he is going to represent his riding’s feelings- HORSESHIT!!! This attack of duty would make him the first in a LOOOONG while to do the things his riding want.

This is the shittiest flip-flop from a bunch of shitty shits, but not unexpected…

I don’t know 1 person who agrees with it. Not ONE.

  6. Because he’s a two faced lying flip flopping S O B
Who has for the entire time the Long Gun Regtistry has been an issue (10 years ! ! ! ! ! !) he’s been against it & has told ANYONE WHO WOULD LISTEN that is his position.
He got elected again & that was in his election campaign.

Now he’s not going to follow through.
I hope he gets what he deserves…tossed out on his lying brown nosing scumbag ass !
Come on electorate…show this asshole what we in Casey’s riding showed Harper when he kicked Casey out for doing what he said he would do in an election campaign…there was NO FLIP FLOPPING BY MR. CASEY , was there ?
Biggest majority win by population correction in the Country ! THat as an Independant…never happened before.

  7. A quick scan of the title of this bitch made me think it had something to do with “flogging the bishop” or “pulling the pope” or what I don’t know . . .

  8. For the record, I think the long gun registry is a terrible waste of resources.

But Peter claims most of the constituents who have contacted him on this matter (over 3000) want the registry kept. He’s just representing his riding as he sees it.

It should be noted that Jack Layton explained long ago that the NDP would not be enforcing party discipline on its caucus with regard to this vote. Each NDP MP is free to vote as he or she sees fit, unlike the Liberals or the Conservatives (those champions of the grassroots!) who have been told exactly how they will vote or else get booted from caucus.

  9. Ah the important word – claims. BTW there is enforcing and there is enforcing. One by saying publicly “You will” and privately saying “You will” or suffer the consequences.

  10. My personal opinion is that Stoffer was worked over by Layton and his bunch of left wing shitbags. Layton has about as much credibility as a car salesman.
I sincerely hope Layton calls it quits as his 15 minutes are way past done.
As for the other Peter – the Uteck loss is surely the final straw, let’s hope someone credible runs against him.

  11. The $1B is spent. It cost nothing to maintain in practical terms going forward. So what was your next reason to vote against it? Oh yeah right you don’t have one. But there are at least 100 reasons to keep it now. Peter spoke up for the people who actually think about these kinds of things before just complaining about it NS style.

  12. He was elected with a career-long position against the LGR. His constituents know this, and voted him in. I for one thought we had a politician against the registry, and voted that way. I didnt register a vote in whatever “poll” he is talking about, I thought that was what my vote was.

  13. I can only assume that he was originally ELECTED by his constituents based on his views – one of them being his stance against the gun laws. Flip flop for sure

  14. Walter, the gun registry does nothing to stop criminals from using guns. They do not register them. After a gun is stolen, the registry does nothing to find it or to stop it from being used in a crime. All it does is record the weapon and the owner. Responsible owners report thefts. The money spent to date and the money collected does nothing. At least with vehicle registration, etc, the money is used for roads. The registry has not built one single range.

  15. Why the fuck do we bother with electing these assholes when all they are going to do is act as glorified ‘pollsters’? We should just have total democracy and everyone vote on everything, rather than pay douches like this. What a maroon.

  16. Considering Peter won the riding by a massive landslide, I don’t think this issue is going to break him if he reoffers.

  17. @ LS, yeah I guess that’s a good answer….from you, that’s about what I thought you’d say. Fucken dim-witted prick.

  18. Bro Tim’s right, if you registry lovers would sufficiently educate yourselves about the program you would realize it’s useless.

  19. LS hardly ever has anything thoughtful to contribute to this board. Don’t take it personally, he hates everybody

  20. Hmm, did my post come across as pro registry? I am as opposed as they come. My point was Peter was elected with that platform, and that was the “poll” he should have used.

  21. The registry was a tax grab and the NDP never met a tax grab they didn’t fervently embrace. It created another level of government bureaucracy which is the only kind of job creation the NDP can wrap their minds around. And Mr. Stoffer’s thoroughly unscientific poll is probably far less relevant than whatever carrot/stick Taliban Jack brought with him when they met this weekend.

  22. to all those that think this fiasco has stopped any type of crime, please stand up. just to show us all, how fucking stupid you are. this thing just sucks money from those that have long guns. checvk your fucking police history in halisucks or anywhere else, long guns, are not the weapon of choice to the ordinary street pnk. they like to use their gangsta style guns, like the glock, ruger, s&w, colt et., not a lee enfield 303 cal. rifle.
it just fucking amazes me how people can say that the registry works, maybe in some small way it does, but not not way the cops say.you have to have a p.a.l. to buy guns and ammo, that should be enough to let the fuzz know that yes, this person has weapons. all the registry does, beside suck money from me and others, is to tell the cops, how many, what kind, cal., and how if re-newed or not. the thing should be volunteery, and have a one time fee. only when you buy a new gun, should their ever be an extra charge.
case in point, i go apply for license, pass tests, get it. i gun next to buy gun,any type, then i have to pay to register this gun, and have to pay on a continual basis, every so many years. that is what fucking people are against, really.
never mind the fact that over 90 per cent of gun crime is done using the use and lose guns.crooks don’t bother to get theirs registered.they buy a saturday night special, use it once or twice, then pass it on, or ditch it. guns do not kill and rob people, people do this shit. a gun of any type is only a piece of metal, wood and/or plastic. if anyone can’t see these facts, then there is no hope for you in the new world order to come.
if you disarm all the people, then you have a police totalitarian state, and we don’t want that now, do we? if you are for this registry fine, if not, fine too. but let me decide, by free vote, if i want this or not, not some politico making up my mind for me.walter, you are an asshole, and hope you never get to where you need a weapon to get you out of. and by that note, anything that can be used as a weapon, should also have to be registered, think on that a it people.

  23. I can think of any number of Cupid Stunts I’d like to bludgeon with the 2 Volume Oxford English Dictionary… and I’ll give you 3 guesses as to where I would ram the magnifying glass when I was done?

  24. Ivan, you beat me to the punch, it is nothing but a thinly disguised TAX.
And if we compare it to vehicles, I would love to know how many vehicles are being driven unregistered, not taxed, not licenced and not insured.

The NDP both provincially and federally are a waste of space on the ballot form and should merge with the greens to gain some votes. I’d love to see what the off-spring of Layton and May would look like!

  25. I am not sure at all what he is doing is right, but that being said, Peter seems to be a very conscientious politician, who will call people back when they have concerns etc… a rarity these days.

  26. I’ve lost track of how many times the RCMP have called to ask me if I just bought a rifle because some clown somewhere is using my registration #. What a joke.

  27. The gun registry WILL be abolished, it’s only a matter of time. Until then, thanks to all of the lefties who think being a gun owner in Canada should mean forfeiting the sanctity of your home… allowing gun inspectors to knock at your door unannounced… not needing a warrant to make a visit… to be able to change the laws and then swoop down on you and confiscate your property… We are a few small steps away from a police state

  28. IT is continuing to cost millions to keep a registry functioning. A registry that’s sole contribution to Canadians is to make otherwise law abiding citizens, criminals when they forget or don’t bother to register or reregister guns.
THe Long gun used to kill the 4 RCMP in Alberta, whether it was registered or not ?
Does it really matter if it was registered or not ?
WOuld you feel any better knowing ” Thank God ! he was killed with a registered weapon !”

I would also like to point out the Man killed in Alberta , who had registered weapons in his home had confronted police & was killed when he left the home & pointed an Umbrella….that’s right our police forces cannot tell them apart…he was killed pointing an umbrella at them.

IMO it is way past time for an Umbrella registry, complete with reregistration after each & every use, along with 2 week training period to properly handle your umbrella.

Actually I personally believe that IF Politicians & IF Senior Police Officers believe this gun registry is such a vital service that is required…their solid gold pension plans can pay for it .

Gun Registration has saved zero lives.
Gun Registration has not stopped, nor has it slowed incidents of GUN CRIME
Just watching the HRM news should be all the proof you need, to back up my claim on that.

Attacking honest lawabiding citizens who wish to be left alone, who wish to not have to subject themselves to unwarranted search & seizures, a cumbersome & expensive renewal system…that does NOTHING for our safety. That is nothing but a waste of tax dollars & another tax grab from citizens who have done nothing wrong, is the issue here.
You want to talk about how to solve gun crime, you need to make the act of using a gun in the commitment of a crime so detrimental to your continued freedom, say a first offence, no one hurt, gun wasn’t fired…. 12 years in prison , no chance for parole -perid- something like that will go much further to alleviate criminal actions with guns, than picking on Big game & small game hunters.

  29. And the point is? That they were threatened with registered guns or unregistered guns. Either way it doesn’t prevent anyone using them for criminal acts. Even if one goes through the necessary requirements t obtain a gun (no record, good character, proper training), it doesn’t mean that they won’t sometime in the future commit a crime with it or suffer from a mental disease. What should have happened was that the person threatened should have reported it to the police. The same with someone whose mental state has changed.

  30. Thanks Iggy. Thanks Jack. Thanks Pete. I feel soooooooooooo much fucking safer this morning and I owe it all to you.

  31. Ivan, so do I. Now I have the faith that the ciminals will be rushing to register their weapons. Now gun crime is truly under control. These MPs have guaranteed us there will be no more crimes where guns are used. They have the criminals running for cover now.

  32. Bro, I’m so got-dang happy I’m going for a walk by the Commons tonight after sundown, flaunting my disposable income. >: )
And Iggy, when you finally topple Steve-o, feel free to raise my taxes a bit more. No, really, I insist. It’s the least I can do.

  33. Judas was paid 30 pieces, what will Stoffers reward be? He says he wasn’t strong armed by Layton, now that statement alone makes me chuckle. Instead he was called by Alexa, who brought her considerable provincial NDP leadership skills to the federal level and all but put the NDP out of business. Then he had a call from Ed Broadbent, is he still alive?
I’m sure Stoffer won’t suffer for this act of folly, as he has more than enough years service to get a fat pension check.
Brison was quiet on this issue, I guess he lives in a rural riding and knew that it would be prudent to, at least once, keep quiet.

  34. What an incredible waste of taxpayers money.
I don’t own a gun, never have, and don’t plan on it.
The media have basically given Michael Ignatieff the floor.
Did anyone see that picture recently of Michael dressed in his little black cowboy suit.
What a putz.I think he might do better trying out for the Village People.
I think the media are biased and on-side with the Liberals because they weren’t promised carriage fees from the cable companies from the present Conservative Government.
Which of course will end up coming out of your pocket in the end.
As soon as I saw Steve Murphy on TV asking me to support “private” broadcasting
from my own pocket, I realized there is now for sure no ethics in the media.
If you don’t raise me allowance daddy, I’ll have you removed and the new daddy will increase our allowance.
In the meantime we’ll give the floor to the “tough guy/chest beater” while spin the most idiotic issues (like the “long” census form) out of control.
Doesn’t the information gatherers have enough on us, this is not a major issue, gimme a break.
The media are biased and favouring who will work for them… at our (taxpayers) expense.
The NDP have no credibility either.
They are like the person trying to get invited to the party, yet after years of trying are nowhere near being invited.
Maybe if they started looking after the “working poor” in this country instead of grand standing they might accomplish some credibility with the electorate.
The Gun Registry is a reward for a federal riding for voting Liberal.
As there is no proof of it’s validity in decreasing crime, it is a tax-grab and nothing more.
As far as Peter Stoffer is concerned… “Peter, your integrity just ran off with my vote”.
