Wandering a 10ft square, playing meaningless pentatonic licks, ad infinitum, without respect to key or song, is NOT *playing music*. and tacking on the same diminished arpeggio every 4 minutes isn’t “Jazzy”.
You get ignored by the people who walk by because you’re aren’t attempting to communicate to them.
There was a bass and sax duo a few weeks back that was pretty great. Students from X, I hear.
Play songs. Play melodies. Play music. What you’re doing is the equivalent of standing on the corner and shouting random words.
I can see I’m being dickish about this, but please, for frig’s sakes- play musically.

Does that older black gentleman still play the sax on SGR and South Park? He could play. Had some snazzy outfits too, and I’m pretty sure he did it cuz he enjoyed it more so than needing the spare change. My teacher at sound school told me he’s quite accomplished.

I haven’t seen the older gentleman for a few months. His cool suits always made an impression on me. Even though someone is busking, they’re asking for our money. Showing even a bit of effort makes me want to give a loonie or toonie. I busked this summer a handful of times. Coltrane and Jimmy Garrison we may or may not have been, but we played well, and did well money-wise.
I find the corner meanderer hard to listen to as well. It’s like musical gibberish. Or as Mr T would call it, “musical jibber jabber”.
Halifax seems to be “blessed” with a great deal of sub standard street musicians, of all genres.
In my humble opinion, of course.
It’s impossible to not be cool in a white suit with a saxophone. The fact that he could play well was icing on the cake.
