Listen, I know it’s a bad time to be looking for a serving job. I realize that you did a bunch of hiring six weeks ago. That timing didn’t work for me so here I am, pounding the pavement with a smile on my face hoping that you will hire me even though I know it is awful timing.
There really is no need to be so bitchy and dismissive of me when I come in asking to drop off a resume. Do politeness and friendliness not exist in Halifax restaurants or what? Even if you’re not hiring, at least be nice about it. It feels shitty as it is to have to be applying at this time of year and there is no need for your bitchy attitudes to make me feel worse. So next time someone comes in to drop off a resume, be nice to them, even if you’re not hiring. Try to remember when you were looking for a job. It sucks, especially in the middle of summer, so you don’t need to make it any worse for them. —Polite Restaurant Staff-to-Be

I also try to remember that the applicant could easily be MY boss some day. Think on it!
How a supervisor treats job applicants is probably a good reflection of how they treat employees. Take it one step further and assume that’s also how they treat customers. The job hunt DOES suck ass but you’ve dodged a bullet and don’t give them a pennyworth of business, ever.
“Do politeness and friendliness not exist in Halifax restaurants or what?”
Nope!
Here, here, Papa Vanya. A bullet dodged.
OP, the person was probably pissed that you were not going to buy anything and leave them a huge tip. Those self-righteous servers always think tipping is mandatory.
Sounds like your better off, Good Luck with the Hunt
Okay, you go in knowing you’re late, the management say they’re not hiring, and now you’re pissed, thinking they were rude when they said no. I often find when someone complains about someone being rude, the the rude person was someone who told them no and they don’t like being told no, damned divas and daddy’s little princes or princesse. If you really, truly wanted the job, you’d have gone in six weeks ago. Your problem is not theirs.
Bro Tim: You seem soulless and rather assuming
i guess you went to all the places tat get bitched about on here. try the cleaning places, they are always hiring.
Usually I agree with you BT — but perhaps OP JUST lost their job? With restaurants downsizing or closing all the time, some servers find themselves out of work at odd time. I don’t think there’s anything princessy/prince-like about this bitch — it’s just basic decency to treat others with respect, even if they’re looking for a job.
you get as good as you give
PK, the OB stated that this restaurant or company or whatever did their hiring six weeks ago and he or she was late. Further, the manager could have been too busy and because of this, the OB took it as being rude. If I am in the middle of something the last thing I need is an interruption. The OB didn’t state what the person said but my experience is that when someone is told no the person saying no is automatically rude or an asshole. Don’t believe me, just observe, in your workplace, where you recreate, or even in your family. Your sister asks you for money or a favour and you say no, see how quick she tells the others you’re mean.
My take is, the restaurant industry did most of its hiring 6 weeks ago because that’s when most places were hiring students for the summer.
It’s REALLY hard to find a job students flock to this time a year because they all want lots of hours for the summer.
But, there are lots of people who aren’t students who need these types of jobs to simply survive, and when you lose your job you don’t necessarily have the luxury of waiting for a better time to job hunt.
Job hunting can be rough — especially on your self esteem. heh.
