Why do businesses allow bums to stand right in their entrances? Barrington Street is a prime example. Who wants to go into a place with some lazy prick rattling a fucking cup under your nose? Isn’t there a loitering law in this backwater burg? It’s pretty fucking bad when Saint John New Brunswick can have a bumless, clean downtown and we can’t. I’d rather the smell of the pulp mill than the smell of bums trying to score some of my HARD-EARNED cash.

City council is a huge fucking joke. They have no intention of doing anything but sitting on their fat, moronic asses debating bullshit most Haligonians could care less about. If this keeps up, the ‘Welcome to Halifax’ sign should be changed to ‘Halifax – the Bum’s Paradise’. I work downtown and I’ve seen too many of these ‘hard luck’ cases piss off to Scotia Square to buy beer or lotto tickets after scoring their Tim cup quota.
What is it assholes week on here. WTF do either of you know of the circumstances that led some of these people on to the streets? Are you THAT fucking heartless? I don’t think anyone begging for a living CHOSE that or said I want to be a panhandler when I grow up. The vast majority of people begging on the streets are desperate for any number of reasons … mental illness, addictions, the streets are safer than home… you name it. If you don’t want to give a fucking dime to them then don’t – perioid. But shut the fuck up with your condescending attitudes. I’ll tell you what. I’d rather stand and have a conversation with any one of those so-balled bums than either one of you fucking moronic yuppies. You’re both 100 times more fucking sickening than these poor down and outers are. Be thankful you have a job and you’re better off than they are. AGHH you just ruined my whole fucking weekend. Matthew, I commend you for saying what most of us are thinking. I should not have to be assaulted by someone before I enter an establishment of any kind. Nothing is done about it because it not’s good PR to do so. I know of four individuals who “bum” downtown and every one of them has a house and two have cars!!! In fact there’s a man on Spring Garden Road who used to park his big Ford/Lincoln near St. Mary’s Basilica while he bums money. When the day was done he got in his car and went home. Yes there are many reasons why people are on the streets and not all of them are legitimate BJ. Do you each one personally?? I doubt it. Yes there are people who got caught up in situations that now they are paying for but what help is it for them to be bumming? I have no sympathy for people who choose to drink or do drugs and then expect other people who stayed clean to support them on the street. I have no sympathy for teenagers soliciting money after they clean your windshield. If they are so poor, how do they afford all those dogs?!! I have the same rights they do and one of them is being able to shop and live in peace. Oh and by the way, period has only ONE letter i. Learn how to spell, jackass.
