Barren Barrington
Sam’s is gone. Dooley’s is gone. Government wants to spread its ugly sprawl there amid the sub shops and used book stores. Our downtown is a fucking disgrace. Punctuated by bums on every corner, Barrington Street has all the appeal of downtown Detroit

I agree. Barrington did have a brief comeback of sorts during and after the G7 summit in 1995….but yeah it is a disgrace. Halifax should be ashamed of this eyesore. Mayor Kelly r u listening???
ps. do something about the panhandlers while you’re at it…
Better yet. Do something about the politicians that are sucking the life out of this city to fill their coffers. It stinks to high hell of corruption with the gloves off.
In 1974 businessman Donald Mahon prominently predicted the Maritime Centre would stimulate an explosion of retail business on Barrington & Spring Garden. The only explosion was the demolition of the Capitol Theatre. The retail shopping scene on Barrington was more an implosion. The MC’s legacy..a Berlin wall of wind & concrete cutting off movement with our waterfront.
bj’s got it right here. How about we examine the provincial tax rate / lack of affordable housing & shelters before we start ripping on companies that can’t afford their leases & people that have no where else to go
