Congratulations on your new location, unfortunately I think the new location has ruined the bar I knew and loved. Do not get me wrong, the old place had its flaws (I knew what those people hanging outside the bathroom were up to) but the new location is out of control. In the few times I’ve been there since I moved back to the city, I’ve seen enough “rave kids” pop drugs on the dance floor. I’ve had people sit at my table whom I didn’t even know, and start dealing from the table. The best one though, was when of your “bus boys/security guards” cut in front of me in a washroom so he could do lines off the urinal. Bravo, bravo. On a positive note, most of the employees there are lovely. A few bad apples and a god awful drug-ridden environment, though. —404 911 NOT FOUND

  1. Consider the new location. It’s all about demographics.
Also, Jon Taffer IS the pimp’s dick.

  2. So you are okay with alcohol, but not with non-alcoholic stimulants. I’m not sure what you think people go to bars for but in my experience it is to consume mood altering substances in a social setting in the name of having fun.

  3. Well Oceanchick, criminal activity really does tend to lower the enjoyment level of most establishments, in addition to putting the safety of the patrons and job security of the employees at risk. If it is being carried out blatantly, and in the open, that speaks to bad management which casts serious doubts on the safety and quality of food and beverage service. And if employees are regularly getting tweaked in the pisser , that’s as bad as them drinking on the job and again, the legal ramifications are enormous. For everyone involved.

  4. Not particularly Oceanchick, although it’s been many years since it held any attraction for me. I do recognize the way things out to be versus the way things frequently are and I also understand that OP was not banging the drum for either pro-or anti- legalization nor was he trying to spark up the tedious old “Which one is more harmful” debate. From the description it doesn’t sound like the friendly neighborhood stoners happy to deal a bit of puff, but rather something more organized and a bit nastier. And if management and staff are oblivious it is because they are incompetent, intimidated or in on the action. And that does not make for a congenial social setting, so, OP’s objections seem very legitimate.

  5. Yes. Downtown Halifax is no longer a fun place. There are a few great new spots and beer bars, but for the most part, every other bar/”cabaret” is a piece of shit, and everyone is so wasteyfaced after a certain hour that if you happen to have a quick sober moment and look around, you’re like “What the fuck is happening? Everyone around me is a 19 year old undergrad freshman.” Or at least they’re acting like it. Makes me want to hermit it up in my apartment with a case of beer… Is this what growing up is like??? Does it have to be??

  6. Oceanchick, when you’re jonesing so hard you’ll do lines off the community piss tank, you don’t have a lifestyle choice – you have a fucking addiction.

  7. Indeed, speck, some people that have addictions are employed. Some at bars. Go figure. Not condoning it, just merely making observances.
