When the worlds largest pub crawl happened a couple of weeks ago, My friends and I hit all the bars.
One of my friends recently had gotten back from the UK. She is a really sweet person whom I have known since I was a child, but she tends to get looks about the way she dresses. She would be labeled as a UK punk, bright colored clothing, a bullet belt, a blonde chelsey hair cut, and garrison boots.
We had already been to 5 of the bars on our list (Go Team #2) when we proceeded to the bar which we had an extremely large problem with.
When we got up to the line, our whole group was accepted into the bar…accept for my punk friend. The bouncer would not accept her into the bar even though she had valid I.D; When I asked why this was, he said that the ID didn’t look like her (She had gotten the ID photo taken the week before, and haden’t changed any of her appearence..by the way)
Then, she proceeded to bring out the rest of her ID to show that it was infact her. Showing the bouncer her Nova Scotia Drivers License, Birth Certificate, Health Card, Student ID, Two Credit Cards, and finially her PASSPORT. At this, he repeated that none of it looked like her, and put up his MASK which he had had down. We then asked to speak to the manager because it was obviously blatent discrimination. He got the manager and said that he didnt think the ID looked like her either, even though he didnt even look at it (He was also wearing a mask so I never got to see his face)
They would not let her in because of the way she dressed, I ask you; how is it possible that she has been accept through customs multiple times; gone to atleast 6 different countries but is not accepted at a halifax bar? Especially when previously accepted to many bars before..ON A PUBCRAWL.
And why is it that a person working as a bouncer, who gets to decide the identity of someone is aloud to hide his face?

not sure which bar you ended up at with this problem. but i know some of them have dress codes: no jewlery/spikes/too revealing clothing etc
I know we aren’t supposed to say “which” establishment BUT I am dying to know what bar allows the bouncers to wear masks??

Wow, you guys haven’t really been out to the clubs recently. I don’t mean to be rude or anything by that statement, but honestly a lot has changed over the last couple of years. I never thought it did, until i recently went out and actually one of the places i went to, the girl at the door, refused to stamp my hand wanted me to do it myself, after i paid $7 cover, I’m surprised they don’t ask you to get your own drinks yet!. The services at halifax clubs have been nothing but terrible over the last year.
Actually this reminds me of a situation that happened to a friend of mine. I thought I’d share the Nova Scotian Hospitality with you.She’s a little on the larger side, and i’m sure everyone heard about this incident since it was in the news. She was actually not allowed in due to her size, and she’s not unhealthy or anything, she’s just a larger woman. not too large either. They would never tell her why they won’t allow her in, she wasn’t drunk, nor was she dressed improperly. As she was walking away, the bouncer said that if she lost some weight, they’d think about letting her in. These are the popular Halifax clubs.
Does the bar in question have a name sounding similar to Rejections or Infections?
It is exactly reasons like this that I REFUSE to go to bars downtown. I have boycotted bars with bouncers. If I can’t walk in off the street and get a drink I don’t want it. Honestly with the amount the cover and drinks are and the length of the line ups there is no point going downtown. Get in line with a bunch of trashed asshats who only want to fight only to enter into a bar full of asshats who want to fight and then only to get kicked out for getting bumped into. That’s the dream right there. Screw Halifax bars up the ass!
Personally I stopped going to downtown bars years ago…I saw this exact kind of behavior 10 years ago when I decided to forget about downtown sleaze bars. I don’t go to ANY establishment where I have to pay to receive the privilege of spending MY money. Oh please let me pay you so I can give you more money?!?!?!? Yeah ok, that makes PERFECT SENSE.
Some how I don’t think it is the bar that is also refferred to as rejections but the one that is referred to as the dirty, I really reallyl hate that ****hole, and the bouncers there are horrible and on a big power trip, if your not up there ass or they don’t think that u want to *** them then good luck because your going to be waiting for a while or……….your not getting in at all!! Douche Bags!
Jeebus, they’re bars. Think about it. Eventually you’ll get to the point where you might go out to them once every coupla years on a whim. The culture shock is a trip in itself.
Funny….I was on Team #2 as well.We had a lot of issues.After going to 3 bars, couldn’t get into the Split Crow.Had huge line ups.And there were a tons of little hick-ups the entire night.I’m not doing it again next year. I’d rather organize my own.
First of all, the guy running that pubcrawl is a douche & is shady… Secondly, what bar was it? Cause thats messed up… maybe theres more to the story (only one side) but sounds like a bouncer attitude to me…
The guy that ran the Pub Crawl this year and last year HAD a lot of issues…serach it out on FaceBook….he ripped a lot of people off last year AND it was NEVER registered with Guiness like he assurred patrons it was…Sorry a little off topic I guess
His name is Jonathan DeYoung and he is sketchy in every sense of the word.
