A big fuck you to my entire provincial government, my non smoking peers and family, and every smoking study group used for this decision. I’m 55 fucking years old and am addicted to cigarettes, my poison of choice being menthol; you bastards will still take my exorbitant amount of money for a product I will despise yet still use. —Helpless hopeless hater with only 1 pack of menthols left

  1. I feel your pain, as smoking is a hellish addiction to kick. I did smoke for 30 years and kicking it took drastic measures. I would love to see all cigarettes banned. As an ex-smoker I cannot tolerate being around cig smoke inside, outside or anywhere else. People who smoke are defiant of the rights of the public to breathe smoke-free air. This kind of disrespect has led to these drastic measures.

On the other hand vaping does not bother my asthma even in an enclosed space. Would love to tobacco banned and vaping allowed.

However any laws around smoking must be accompanied by enforcement, something I have yet to see, according to the cig butts that litter the bus shelters.

  2. As you have only one pack of menthol cigarettes left you must act quickly. Wean yourself off menthol by rapidly increasing your intake of regular cigarette tobacco. Practice deep inhaling. Smoke at every opportunity, even during sex. Good luck and Godspeed!

  3. Might this not be a good time to make a serious attempt at quitting, LW?

Everyone knows it’s tough, but think of all the money you’ll save, and think of how happy you’ll feel not handing so much of your cash over to the gov’t all the time.

55? Perfect age to quit. Imagine yourself one year from now at 56 feeling at least 15 years younger.

  4. I realize how difficult addictions are for many people but, at the same time, I don’t know how you can blame the government for not supporting your addiction. You chose to take up smoking and chose to smoke menthol. Nobody forced you to.

Maybe it’s time to go see your doctor and get help quitting. You may be addicted to the cigarettes themselves or maybe you use them to self-medicate a mental health issue such as anxiety. Either way, your doctor can help.

    Good luck!

  5. I’m waiting for then to ban fruit and candy flavoured alcohol as kids could get into drinking that stuff while being underage. And where are the warning labels and why can kids go into an NSLC store but can’t go into a tobacco shop? Isn’t that what they call a double standard?

  6. Too bad they do not ban or at least reduce the number of politicians, as many of them are bad for our health and sanity as it is.
