  1. I’m sorry tip complainer x 52, but…IT’S MY CHOICE TO TIP.IT’S MY CHOICE TO TIP.IT’S. MY. CHOICE. TO. TIP.

  2. LOL great post. I’ll bet you’ll remember him huh?Make his next date notable LOL. I’ll bet you remember those who tip well (or even adequately). If we can’t afford to eat out and leave a respectable tip to the hard working people who cater to us, we stay home. It’s not rocket science.

  3. OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!let me just start by saying. I have been a in all aspects of the service industry. I have argued the point of tipping for years, will contiue to when I feel it is necessary again. But people for the love of anything you hold sacred….CAN we please let this argument rest!if you don’t tip just because you don’t want to – you’re cheap, if you don’t because service is bad -that’s appropriate, if you do tip all the time because -well just because then you are a simp! and if you tip when given good service and good product then GREAT, the service people need more people like you!.OK lets let the matter drop, oh please!!!!!!

  4. Tips are earned not budgeted for. With a mouth like that it’s little wonder why you got the shaft. Take the $2 and buy a lottery ticket. Here’s a tip. Take that $2 and buy a lotto ticket.

  5. Actually Tips are budgeted for…By the employer- they work it into employees grosse earnings. This is a prime example of employer’s not treatig their employee’s as an asset. For example- a restaurant supervisor will be resposible for all staff performances, health and welfare, customers, equipment, product quality, Floats, and all cash revenues – they are expected to man the door, bar, control the floor, take tables, handle customer complaints, as well as staff complaints. when hired they are told they will earned upwards to 45,000 for 45+ hours( which is always more than 50+). but they will only be paid minimum wage. If you are a restaurant manager – you don’t even get to take tables but are paid $8 to $10/hr and a usually a weekly tip fund which is shaved of the staff’s tips, there are never benefits-Health or Dental.People actually choose to do this for a living – here in NS- where the check average is $75, the tip % average is 10% and the tip out is 5%to 6.5%.AS time goes on we are just going to continue to loose our good Hospitality resources to out West and just get stuck with morons who, well are just morons. And the Employers will just lower their salary offerings because their revenue will deplete because their good staff have gone to where they are appreciated!OK I’ll stop now, just a little bitter today…grrrr

  6. As far as I’m concerned the only people who get a tip should work for it. I will not waste my hard-earned money for lazy, crap service and/or shit food. You better be goddamn exceptional when I come into your restaurant or forget about it. I busted my ass for the last 10 years at crap minimum wage jobs, working just as hard if not harder as you “fine dining experts”, do you think I got any tips? Quit complaining and start working. Not only that but why are we only tipping waiters? there are other industries where the employees work even harder to make customers happy. They barely make minimum wage, do you hear them whining?

  7. Great -we are bitcing about tipping AGAIN, now that’s not getting old. while we are at it lets discuss Sunday Shopping. Since I’m here I’ll just say this. If you don’t tip as a rule, eat at BK or MacD’s. and yes I think more people should be tipped- hairdressers, delivery drivers, valets,ETC. OR I think Minimum wage should be more, and I totally think that anyone who is doing a service for others should be compensated. I don’t give a fuck who does the compensating but I think we all should be appreciating others for hard work and the attention to detail!just my thoughts…

  8. I think everyone who bitches about the fact that they don’t see why it is necessary to tip, is bitter and cheap dried up A HOLE.I work with 2 guys who go to Tim’s every day and can’t see fit to leave a quarter for the girl who EVERY day gives them their Tea/coffee. then they’ll sit there and debate why should they tip someone for pouring coffee. It is customary to TIP. just shut-up about it- keep your cheap-ass opinion to yourself. they/and evryone who argues about it are cheap and are trying to justify their cheapness to the rest of the population.just shut up and get out of the line!

  9. bitch more please… Id just like to say some people work and earn less or equal to you. So honestly what are you fucking doing that deserves so much extra cash of mine? Pooring me some water? Honestly a 2.00$ tip isnt bad, if you get more than 2.00$ from me, you were honestly sincere and an amazing server. If you earn the 2.00$ which is the bear min for me that means you did nothing extra , just the average server.

  10. It is “customary” to tip, even when you get the piss poor waiter / waitress which seems to be the norm around Halifax. I’ve been here for 5 years, and eat out regularly in what most people consider middle of the road resturants and i got to say, 99% of you are lucky to still have jobs let alone getting tips. What the fuck to you expect a tip for? Listen up, spit the gum out, stop scratching your ass on my chair, yes the guy behind the bar will fuck your brains out if you want him to and if he’s nice he’ll let you know what he has and what type of antibiotics work best…. I’ve already become one of the customers who now rewards servers with tips so long as they don’t cough on me. Halifax service industry – setting low standards and failing to achieve them regularly!

  11. I couldn’t agree more w/ you Ian-Service in Halifax just in the last 8 or 9 years has become deplorable. It is like the owners /managers are satisfied hiring mediacraty and hope for the best. Most restaurants will not even take the time to appropriately train their staff. I have found for consistant service- Hotel restaurants and the Standard “finer” restaurants- there is about 6, you know what ones I mean. any New restaurant- is pitiful, and you have hope your server is older than 25yr for any type of knowledge. I still find the Hotel staff in general to be the nicest!I think all the good servers have gone out west because they can make $60,000 in a year in 6 months, who wouldn’t want to do that and be appreciated for their hard work. Most times you end up workin close to 7 days aweek – with 10 to 12 hr shifts, but you don’t have time to spend your $$ and you usually make great friends who work the same as you. Halifax- Maritimes needs to get back to taking pride in our Hospitable area again. Tourism is suppose to be a HUGE part of our revenues- It won’t be if no one cares

  12. I work in a hotel and when we get bus tours it’s in the bill that the person delivering the suitcase gets 2$ a bag. The person that cleans that room for the duration of their stay gets nothing. Somethings wrong here

  13. WHY do we tip? The person providing the service is being paid by the employer, right? And we are paying the employer and thereby paying the server, right?Well, allow me to enlighten you. The employer is paying that server (or cleaner, or driver, or what have you) for the bare minimum. Waitressing is hard fucking work, my brothers and sisters, and if you don’t believe that, then you should be sentenced to a month of community service in your neighborhood diner. You will come away from the experience a more enlightened person. If you think the hardest part of that person’s job is “pooring” you some water, I guarantee you will learn some important lessons. But I digress. As I was saying, the employer pays that server for the bare minimum. That is, he/she is paid to take your order, relay that order to the cooks, and bring that food from the kitchen to your table before it gets cold. When you tip your server, you are saying, “I appreciate your concern for my happiness. Your attentiveness and solicitude made my dining experience more pleasant. Thank you.” And when someone feels appreciated, they give back. You get good service, you have nice time at the restaurant. You give the server a nice tip. The server feels appreciated, and the next customer benefits from her positive attitude. Everybody wins.

  14. I agree with coyote.. the employer is paying for the bare minimum work, and when servers provide me the bare minimum WhyTF should I pay them anymore?Should go back to tipping at the beginning maybe then you can get decent service in Hali

  15. cleaning is also back breaking work and the fact that I get to see peoples body fluids is even more of a perk. I get to see your shit or piss in the toilet, your blood on your sheets (or wherever else you decide to leave it) OR your cum on the hand towel or snot in the floor of your tub. I also want a tip! GRRR!

  16. I think expecting a tip just for the sake of it is the stupidest thing. If you provide good service then you may get a tip from me.annoyed

  17. I just want to say – Zac you are right. I have found that throughout the time I was working for tips I never really got to a point where I expected them, I was always happy with whatever I received, and tried never to focus on the money but having fun. I loved/love talking to people and I think if you are in this industry for reasons such as this then you will reap the benefits.as far a cleaning rooms, I did this for one summer, 4 months- I lost almost 25lbs doing it, and at the time I did not need to loose that weight. Without a doubt, physically one of the hardests jobs I have ever done. It can be dangerous- being alone in a room w/ doubtful characters, disgusting- cleaning after Honymooners had to be the worst-they practised safe sex, and I got to be the benificary of all their little balloons they left behind, and without a hesitation I will say very under appreciated profession.I received 2 tips while doing this- and I will never forget them or the guests who gave them. I think if people thought about about the people behind the scenes they might show a better appreciation for the work that they do.On a side note- I would think nursing would be along the same lines as being a room attendent- I think you all are under appreciated too!

  18. There are lots of minimum wage jobs out there that don’t get tips…. McDonald’s, Tim Horton’s, Subway, the list goes on. I think you are rude “here’s a tip”. Maybe your service didn’t deserve a tip. Ever think of that? Here’s a tip for you: maybe you should think twice before bitching like a little princess because they didn’t tip you the “proper” amount. It’s the patrons choice whether they tip you or not. PERIOD.

  19. I’m a good tipper when I go out and eat. Even if the service is not that great, i will still give 15%( chalk it up to a bad night, shit happens). But, I have a buddy who tips the drive-thru chick, or guy at Burger King…it’s a personal choice, but I never thought to do this, and I can’t start now.
