Sometimes it just seems like the world is against you, eh? I don’t necessarily believe in “God” or “Karma” but I think we all have times in our lives that almost seem like ‘someone’ is testing us, or that maybe we’ve done something crummy in the past to deserve our current misfortunes. I have certainly been having a stretch for the past few weeks.

Then, today, some complete stranger smiled at me as we walked past one another on the street (first thing in the morning on my way to work). She said hi and asked how I was. I’m not the mopey kind of person, so I wasn’t showing my ‘screw the world’ frame of mind on the outside but I wasn’t exactly smiling either (it was early).

Anyway, I said Hi back and gave the best smile I could but it wasn’t nearly as cheerful as yours was and I’m sorry I didn’t make more of an effort to brighten your day the way you did mine.

I didn’t have the BEST day today either but it was certainly better because of that simple gesture. So just goes to show ya, folks, it really is the small things, especially the small pleasant gestures of complete strangers, that makes this world tolerable. Next time I’m feeling up to it (and there will be a next time) I’m going to smile at someone and ask how their day is going. —Just a temporary funk

  1. Happiness comes from within, but sometimes a kind smile or cute cat pictures can help cheer us up.

On a side note, what’s with all the Loves in with the Bitches lately? Someone at the Coast dropping the ball repeatedly or are people confused on the difference between a Love and a Bitch?

  2. What cheers me up is the sight of a fridge full to the brim with Mr. Keith’s muscle relaxer to help wash the Oktoberfest sausages down.

  3. Add video footage of cops beating up hippies, or Egyptian tanks rolling over MB supporters, set to light classical music and you’re cooking with gas, Bazzer.

  4. Just make sure it’s not a girl (if OP’s a man). She’ll just smile nervously and think you’re a creep. Older people appreciate it more when you talk to them I find.

  5. Every night in my dreams
I see you, I feel you,
That is how I know you go on

    Far across the distance
    And spaces between us
You have come to show you go on

    Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you’re here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

Love can touch us one time
    And last for a lifetime
And never let go till we’re gone

Love was when I loved you
One true time I hold to
In my life we’ll always go on

    Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you’re here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

    You’re here, there’s nothing I fear,
And I know that my heart will go on
    We’ll stay forever this way
You are safe in my heart
And my heart will go on and on
