seriously folks, why, why why, do you insist on getting the largest stroller possible and then haul it on the bus at 5pm with your cranky kids then complain because the bus is crowded…and you are not coming home from work(as you so loudly told anyone who would listen)…most people coming from daycare do not pick up in a large ass stroller like the one you are crusing with…stay home, or go for a WALK…but really it is bad enough during 5pm traffic on the bus without you hogging half the bus

2 foot injuries in 2 days on LTWWB? Inconceivable!
As for the bitch itself, I find strollers almost non-existant during peak hours (note I said almost), so most mothers already know to wait till the commuters go by, or go before them. Those that don’t either only do it once (maybe twice), or they have no other option.
I agree. Isn’t that why soccer moms buy minivans?
2 foot injuries in 2 days, both bus related as well… truly astronomical odds against that happening.
IMO there really is no need for those land cruiser strollers with shocks and nos in the back, etc… get a simple one at the very least or let the kid huff it like we all used to when we were young.
Two words to remember here…public transportation. It is there for everyone, even Mom’s with strollers. Toe-rolling is unacceptable and should be accompanied by an apology.
“Two words to remember here…public transportation.”
Which is exactly why a lot of people hate it (especially the “public” part).
make no mistake oceanlady, we gripe just as much about the huge dude taking two seats… or the idiot who puts there bag in the fucking way so that people have to make the moral decision of whether to squash their shit or ask before squashing their shit.
Anyone who takes up more space than your average joe-blow is a target for bitching.
And we do.
public transportation. Hello people is you don’t like it WALK
Its called common sense. Yes, take the bus, yes if you have a normal stroller, but don’t take a stroller that 3 people need to help you on the bus with, then park it in the front and block everybody.
Strollers that are small and fold up are for busses. Leave the land cruser at home when taking the bus.
SLAP!
I’m hoping that PDG will chime in here and back me up on this, but there used to be a section in the Rider’s Guide about strollers. It was on the second or third page and was right under the “spill proof containers” section. It stated very clearly that non-collapsable strollers were not allowed on the buses at all and the collapsable strollers were only allowed on during non-peak times. I don’t know how many times I saw a bus driver rigidly uphold the “spill proof containsrs” rules, but would let somebody (dads are guilty of it too) get on the bus and block 3/4 of the aisle with one of those monstrous baby strollers.
In Ottawa people with large strollers will actually fold up the handicapped seating (95% of busses there are ALF busses) and put their strollers there and stand up behind them…takes up three spaces, but keeps the aisle clear *shrug*
Are people with strollers allowed to do this here?
Never Wrong – The current wording is:
Strollers are permitted on Metro Transit Vehicles. After boarding, a child may remain in the stroller is space permits; however, the stroller cannot vblock the aisle or impede the movement of other passengers. The brakes must be engaged and the stroller must be held at all times. Should the adult choose to remove the child from the stroller, the stroller must be folded and stored in a safe position.
I’ve gotten on buses before where there were 4 SUV-strollers blocking the aisle…and I almost flew into another passenger while trying to manipulate my way through them. AND got a dirty look from the owner of the stroller I tripped over.
On the bus yesterday, I saw something that blew my mind…a woman had a monster stroller, but had a backpack where the kid should be and no kid in sight.
I’m guilty of riding the bus with my big SUV stroller, 6 yrs ago. The stroller was one of the ones with the car seat in it. I didn’t have a snuggly to use and she was too young for the smaller strollers so it is what it is. What bothers me is that more and more of these parents are disrespectful with it. ‘I have a baby in a stroller so you’d better respect me and accommodate me and my every need’ that’s the attitude I feel from a lot of them. They don’t even bother to try and push the stroller out of the way at all. They just don’t care. ‘
adults are fatter today.
kids are MUCH fatter today than previous generations.
babies aren’t that far behind. the women who buy the huge strollers may plan on using them again when they give birth to a sea cow mutant.
PK: I can’t say I’d stop someone from flipping the seats up, but I have yet to see it. Most times I also see the kids left in the strollers, and I rarely see strollers folded.
Try folding even a small stroller when you’re travelling alone with your baby (who can’t yet walk). How do you hold a baby, a purse and fold a stroller with one hand?????? Somebody, please tell me.
?
scoobydoo: You do what grown-ups do. You ask for help. I’ve seen countless people help lone parents get their stroller on/off the bus and I’m sure someone (the driver at least) would be willing to help you fold up your stroller. You have the right to public transportation, just like everyone else. You do not have the right to block the aisles and inconvenience/endanger other passengers.
