And baby, it’s f**king freezing inside too. Heat included? Someone better mention that to this south end landlord. At the very least, knock a hundred bucks off my rent and let me heat the place myself. I’ve spent the last month cozied up with blankets, sweaters, space heaters, slippers, and coffee because my apartment is a balmy 12 degrees (on a good day). I can see my breath inside! A glass of water on the floor freezes overnight! I need to boil water for a hot bath! Unacceptable. This tenant is going to start burning her rent cheques for the warmth.

If heat is included as per your lease and you’re not getting it, it’s grounds for breaking your lease. You might mention that to your landlord.
Complain about it on an anonymous internet forum where you can’t name names, that’ll solve things!
According to the laws regarding tenancy in Nova Scotia, if the landlord is supposed to provide heat as per your rental agreement, it must be able to maintain a minimum of 18 degrees at all times, and if it can’t then they are breaking their end of the lease. Take them to court.
I have a good friend who had this issue when he lived in a South End apartment building very near SMU. He took his issue to the tenancy board and was awarded about a month’s rent.
Make a written request to the landlord to bring the heat up to room temperature, thats 21C. Failing compliance… Do you have your own meter? Call and get it hooked up… reduce your rent payment by the amount of your monthly bill. The LL can explain themselves to Tribunal if they want to file a complaint about you varying your lease agreement instead of freezing for months at a time. Remember, the Act was written highly in favour of the tenant. It takes quite a lot to throw someone out legally.
All that said, is it electric heat that’s included? Then go buy a baseboard heater and STFU
I think they need to keep it at least 18 degrees, from my understanding. At 12 degrees, nothing should be freezing. I love being in a small unit where I pay for everything myself.
LOL. Moron…you should have asked about that prior to signing the lease. Just because it says “heat included” does not indicate the temperature.
yeah, but think how comfortable you are in your place.and the view is probably stunning on south park street.you know the poor bums on the street, would probably trade with you,the real homeless, that is.but some of these people, and i use that term lightly, suck you in with the view in summer, and all other niceties, then comes winter, and it’s brrrrr, fucking cold.where i live,we have heat,24/7/52.and my rent has only gone up,25 bucks in 5 years.anything needs doing,he gets on it right away.i have no complaints whatever, where i am.
“LOL. Moron…you should have asked about that prior to signing the lease. Just because it says “heat included” does not indicate the temperature.”
Yes, because that is a common question when people move into a new apartment.
“So what is the temperature?”
Get the fuck out. lol
The temperature that the landlord must maintain in “heat included” flats is outlined in the residential tenancies act, people! Know your rights!
life sucks i’m quite sure that nobody is going to read your comments if you can not puncuate or use the shift key to capitalize certain words and you may have some valid comments on the original bitch but it is to hard on the eyeballs to continue reading your stuff. try and break up your sentences and use paragraphs that way i would be able to read your comments without scrolling pass them. and anybody else got to the end of this you know what i’m talking about. if i made any grammar mistakes please forgive me. by the way i do not type like this. i’m just trying to make a point to LS.
anybody want to have a run on sentence competition to the death;my grade 11 english teacher told me in all his years he never saw someone with my propensity to never finish a sentence; that is a good thing right; because i wouldn’t want to just keep writing and writing and writing that would be annoying:):)
Heat included doesn’t mean ask the temperature maintainance . It means what the residential tenancy boards states whats acceptable . Complain to the rentalsman – only thing to do . Goes without saying.
but senor, who really gives a fat fuck about capitals and the rest of the crap.if you don’t want to read, please pass on by.i won’t mind a bit.
rentalsman? …what about rentalswoman?
ok how about rentalsperson ? Though Rentalsman is what it still ,in many provinces ,referred to as . I hear ya on that ocean lady , might wanna call the ombudsman about it !!!! Sorry I had to refer that in fun !!!!
If your lucky enough to have power included too, run the oven in the kitchen on full blast. The landlord will love paying that power bill!
Is it a common thing to not have your own temperature control in an apartment unit? I thought most units were supposed to have their own thermostats. Unless you’re renting a room…
And unless the LL isn’t filling up the oil tank….
In any event, download a copy of the residential tenancies act, print out and highlight the relevant sections and slip it under your LL’s door. They’ll likely get the hint.
instead of complaining on here, speak to the landlord. maybe something is broken. go ahead burn your rent cheques, then you’ll be cold for sure when you’re out on your ass.
man you must be living in one of those 100+ years old buildings that charge you over $1000 a month rent for a 1 bedroom apartment that’s about 400sq.ft, that claims to include heat and hot water, but nothing works because it’s old.
I never understood the fascination of living in the south end of Halifax in such crappy conditions!
