I’ve been lucky in this myself but as young people there can be a ton of pressure to have children, from family, friends, acquaintances and strangers alike. Someone I know is going to have her first in a few months and I already observed someone applying light pressure to think about a second. Hello SHE DIDN’T EVEN HAVE THE FIRST YET. So no one has to give in to this pressure if they, themselves, do not want children, but for many there is certainly a large lobby in their personal lives saying the exact opposite of this bitch.
And I would like to add that I’m not sure that overpopulation is the problem so much as unequal distribution, and waste, of resources. We live on a very rich planet. My last job, we used to throw out a large garbage-can-sized bin of perfectly good food every single day. And that was just one small cafe. Imagine how much food is being wasted worldwide while millions starve.
Then what would gay people call breeders that don’t breed?

Even if we used less, and conserved more, we still have too many people for this planet. The main problem being that we tend to just calculate the amount of planet / resources needed to sustain human life, without taking any consideration for the rest of the life on Earth, without which the planet wouldn’t survive. The reason there are so many species dying out? Humans, there are too many of us because there are too few boundaries out there keeping us in check that we can’t overcome with technology.

Abortions are free, NGF. In NS they’re covered my MSI if performed in a hospital. In other provinces, like Ontario, they’re covered by OHIP in hospitals and clinics.
However, I wouldn’t say an abortion is an easy choice to make for anyone. I’m completely pro choice, but…I don’t think I could abort a child, myself. Part of being pro choice is choosing NOT to have an abortion.

And, what’s the average demographic having abortions? Are they on welfare (lol of course they’re not — mo’ kids = mo’ money)? Are they young? Are they students? Are they lower income (but not on welfare)? If they are, chances are they’re not paying much into the tax pool, so said abortion would actually be practically free.
I mean….I’ve never paid income taxes, and I get my GST back…so, I’m definitely not paying much into the MSI pot, and my ample usage of the health care system is…pretty much free to me.

its not so much the social services money (but that is easy to get when young and prego), its the family allowance on the 20th that can sky rocket from having kids. I know people who get more from that cheque then I make all month. I have a problem with the kids having kids. 1 or 2 before there out of high school. I think that if these girls were to have natural births, no meds or pain killers then you might see a bit of a decrease. As it is today babies are money, you have them vertually pain free and then social services pays for them to go to daycare. The mother then has the freedom to get knocked up again.
