To the father of two screaming kids:

If you’d looked around you (and you saw that the dining room was packed before you got seated), you should have known there was going to be a wait, that you weren’t going to get your food in just 10 minutes! I told you it was busy and apologized for any wait. We were also short staffed. You ordered appetizers and got them fairly soon. Despite how busy it was, your kids got their food not too long after the appetizers. I checked up on you, asked how the kids meals and apps were, ‘good’ you said. Then I told you and your wife that the pizzas you ordered were going to be ready in 5 minutes (which they really were), your wife smiled and said thanks in a friendly voice. I checked up on you again to see how everything was, if you all needed anything else, you said fine and asked for a water (after drinking a beer). I got you the water right away. No complaint about anything the whole time. I thought everything was fine, that you were happy, then I find out at the END that this wasn’t the case….

While serving about 7 other tables at the time, I come by and pack up all of your food. You come to pay me, and proceed to tell me the service was awful, you had to wait forever, everything was slow, you waited forever to be seated, you were ignored, you and your wife went to the mgr to complain, blah blah blah… um, why didn’t you tell me this DURING your visit, rather than the end??? I could have fixed it! You complained about nothing beforehand, then went behind my back to bitch me out, and finally when paying your bill you tell me what you really think! Then you say “I normally tip really well, but not this time”. Yeah I bet you do, buddy!

The no-tip is not the issue, it’s the fact that you treated me shitty and was unjustifiably rude for something that could have been fixed, had you said something earlier! Fuck you! You obviously have no fucking clue what it’s like to work as a server, you’ve obviously never done it before!—Thankfully I won’t be doing this forever

  1. well yeah… I had a chick complain about a long hair in her veggie burger once…
with my head shaved to 1/2 inch and it (unfortunately) coming out of a wrapper onto the grill… it must have been hers, planted for free food…

    fucking people sometimes..

and OP, we don’t need to know how it is to be a waitress…
we all get it sucks a smurf’s wet ball juice.
we don’t need to have a crappy job to know you should generally be nice and bring up things during the meal when they are not to our liking…
point was he was a douche canoe about it and if you were as attentive as you claim, then I hope it doesn’t tarnish your record…
or keep you out of the waitressing olympics or something..

  2. You know how i can tell I’m a good customer to some of the places I go ?
when they close, the doors to clean up & prep for tomorrow, I get locked in for 1 or 2 more with them 🙂

I agree with the poster on this bitch (gasp) but unfortunately most people are fucking assholes.
Maybe not at work, maybe never around family…but put them out some where they get an over inflated sense of themselves & they more often than not turn into raging anus’s.

Don’t let it get you down, & maybe you’ll get an opportunity to do what my brother did to a complaining asshole when he worked in the service industry…he had someone complaining their chips were too hot, their pop had too much ice (aka was too cold ) -he dumped some of the pop on the fries & the rest & the ice on their lap & said “how’s it now ?” then he turned & walked out of the resturant.
If your going to quit your job…you might as well get some enjoyment out of it 🙂

  3. don’t you just love being in a business that brings out the worst of humanity.and then there are the parents too.

  4. Under the category ‘been there-done that’ it helps to remember that the whole entire restaurant was full of customers, who all had similar waits for their meals, but understood that full capacity means longer wait times and everyone has to wait their turn. This one customer behaved like an immature child setting a huge example for his children to follow. I’ll bet his wife was proud.

  5. managers need to stop being so spineless… stop apologizing, stop comping meals, stop acting like little bitches every time someone complains…. I think everyone by now realizes that 90% of complains in food service are from scummy self-entitled douchebags with nothing better to do than make someone feel like shit and/or try and rip the business off. managers, get the fuck with it stop alienating your staff… if the complaint sounds legit… give it the attention is deserves… if freshly poured coffee is “too hot” tell that bitch ass motherfucker to gtfo.

ladies, if your husband/boyfriend/significant other is being a DICK, fucking stand up for yourself/the server. sooooo many times I’ve witness (or been the server) to a table where the guy was being a tard (to impress the lady ??) and the chick just sitting there like a deer in the headlights… good god, girls, nut up and tell your dining partner what a flaming cocksmoker he is being !!!! … look, 3 words: [name], stop it. end of shitty behavior.

  6. Why do restaurant staff insist on making excuses for the slow service…..we were busy, we were understaffed, we were hungover. As a customer, we truly don’t give a fuck. Serve us in a timely manner. As for the customers, if the service does not meet your expectations, complain to the manager. It’s his/her responsibility to make sure there are enough staff on hand. Plus it’s not as if the “lunch rush” or “dinner rush” is some new concept…they should have more people on staff then! PS – don’t tip….they just got a “tip” with the minimum wage increase.

  7. Hey Sebastian,

People aren’t robots, they can only do their best. Human beings have limits you know.

Give people a break once in a while.

I don’t like intentionally bad service any more than the next person, but if the place is packed and they are understaffed, that’s just how life goes sometimes and you have to wait your turn.

And no, no one else really cares if you are hungover. That’s your choice and your problem, of no concern to the people who are working at the particular time you come in.

  8. People who do this to get a free meal aren’t really getting food for free. They are just paying with their dignity instead of cash. Cash is more affordable.

  9. The customer sounds like a complete douchebag! I delivered pizza for Dominos for 2 years, so believe me I have seen all kinds of customers! “Rude & no tip” is still better than “leer at your chest and make passes at you” tho!
