There’s a page on Facebook titled “The republic of western canada” mostly spreading hate about the maritime provinces, engaging in Harper worship and calling for the separation from canada of B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan & Manitoba. No big deal right? Except in the past month I’ve kept my eye on these hate mongers as their group has grown to almost 13, 000 members! If you don’t like Trudeau that’s fine, I’m just glad Harper is gone but Trudeau is just another politician to me. He’s going to lie, steal, be a jerk, etc.
What the western canadians who support separation don’t understand is that if they were successful North America would be destroyed. Imagine a country with B.C – Manitoba on one side as a nation, Ontario, Quebec & the maritimes as a series of separate nation states and Russia in control of NWT and the Yukon.
Look it’s one thing for Cons to stop their feet and mourn the loss of dear leader. If nothing else, Harper was a polarizing force. But don’t call yourself a ‘patriot’ if you want to destroy Canada. —Idiots

Do yourself a favour and don’t follow Ezra Levant on twitter, or do if you’re interested in what the far right is saying. It’s infuriating sometimes, but it gives you an idea of what many Canadians are thinking.
Phhht. 13k people is dick all compared to the rest of Canada. What do you expect from a western culture of defeat? They’re not just sore losers, they’re sour losers as well. They can go collectively suck on Harper’s shiny white posterior like the suckling, stupid piglets they are.
Well talk of separation works for Quebec.
This provincialism is really the main issue holding back Canada from it’s potential. It’s petty, dumb and unproductive. There is a provincial separation group in every province… some stronger than others, but they all suck for the same reasons. The reality is that it would actually be great if provincial governments just went away; and we only had federal and municipal levels of government.
Rise above all this and get on with your day. It’s a big world out there, and only amateurs spend time on the petty stuff.

But seriously if it ever did happen I highly doubt Ontario would stick with the Maritimes. They’re one of the rare provinces that actually gives more to Ottawa then they receive. Bit of a touchy subject to them too.
Really the only thing the maritimes have to offer is some natural beauty. Though I’ve been to lots of other parts in Canada that are way more beautiful.
Every place has it’s pros and cons, unfortunately the maritimes are weaker because people don’t want to change! I guess reality does bite!
@Randomness is spot on. Go to any town/province in the country and you will hear the same things: “Our natural beauty is amazing”… ‘Our people are great”… blah blah. That’s all great, but I would like to see some action.
Maybe the feds should just stop the transfer payments (allowance from mommy&daddy) and see what happens. Wouldn’t that make the kids stand on their own feet?
I say let them go. That way our government won’t have to clean up the mess the oil companies leave behind, because that gravy train has left the track. Ain’t nobody making their mortgage payment on a 3/4 of a million dollar trailer in Fort Mac on $880 every 2 weeks.

Ok. So best place on earth compared to what exactly? Since you’ve always been here all your life? What are you, the person that says this is the best place to live, comparing to?
Have you lived anywhere else? Have you associated or mingled with other people from different parts of the world? Are you more superior to them?!

OB, you seem to be perpetuating the stereotype that East coast hates everything to the west of them. Let me assure you…noone west of the maritimes gives a SHIT about the maritimes…its really that simple. Noone hates the maritimes, noone hates NS, or halifax or whatever that is west of here…its all a made up storyline that NS likes to feed itself to make it feel better about itself. Really, noone west of here actually gives a shit either way about it..and find it funny that the maritimes stomps its feet and holds its breath until it goes purple while shouting pay attention to me. Just face facts…this side of Canada, is not on the radar from anywhere else’s standpoint in Canada.
